    Just a reminder - it can take a few times of loading a game to have it run smoothly. Performance does improve for many of the games, once shaders, etc. are fully loaded. In other words, just because a game is choppy the first time you load it, it doesn't mean that the game will not run well. Give it a few tries before giving up on a game.

    Great video. My only suggestion for everyone just getting a steam deck is to use AMD FSR. To get it to work, you have to LOWER the native resolution. It’s 1280x800 I’m pretty sure at standard, so lower that by like two notches to like 1120 x something or lower, hit the 3 dots button, go to performance and scroll to the bottom until You see the option for fsr. It’ll be this bar that has a couple of options, one of them saying “integer” You will know it’s activated when the actual resolution of your screen changes, since FSR is an upscaler. With FSR, I’m able to play way more AAA games like the Witcher 3 at a almost rock solid 60fps. Really awesome shit that people should utilize.
    Remember, LOWER YOUR RESOLUTION, pop on FSR and enjoy smooooooth gameplay my friends!

    • @k45oz29
      @k45oz29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Glad to know someone who understands FSR, having low resolution then pumping FSR there is like no difference at all

    • @BosnaUnitedBrothers
      @BosnaUnitedBrothers 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do you mean by changing the installed games' property > general > game resolution? After having enabled FSR from the power (battery) settings. Since I can't change the current display resolution with the last mentioned method. Thus only the framerate and/or refresh rates from the power settings. And game resolution per game settings.

    • @treeokk
      @treeokk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@BosnaUnitedBrothers you have to go into the games actual settings, not through steam! So if you’re playing the Witcher 3 like I described above, you would go into the video settings of the game, when you load it up, and reduce it to from the native 1280xwhatever it is. It can be 1120xwhatever idk what the exact resolution scale number is, but if you do that AND put the game in windowed mode, it should enable. To test it, do what I said and then turn fsr on and off. You should see the screen literally shrink, then expand when fsr is on. Since it’s upscaling, you have to actually reduce the resolution, so that it UPSCALES it back up to the native! It’s pretty straightforward, but it has steps unlike DLSS. Hope this helps bud

    • @treeokk
      @treeokk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@k45oz29 I had to look up a video to figure it out. I have a 3070 in my laptop so I was used to DLSS, not FSR. But I’m glad I learned it, because FSR is a godsend on the steam deck. I hope other devices get built in FSR or DLSS honestly.

    Maybe it's just 'cos I'm old or something, but I actually kinda like the two-hour limit of the battery under heavy use on something like _Cyberpunk 2077_. Eye strain starts to set in at about that point, so the battery being about to die is a good reminder to like, go pee and maybe look at things that aren't on a 7" screen for a little while 😀 Also, I'm often playing before bed, so having the battery die is a good reminder that sleep is good 😀

    The size of the charging brick doesn't matter. You an get 45watt small chargers, and you can get large 10watt ones.

    • @cho9171
      @cho9171 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But it does. 10watt isn't going to charge you deck while your playing. Probably slow down the battery drainage but it won't charge your battery while playing because the deck pulls 20w. Come on man. Even the deck will warn you if you use a lesser power charger while using the deck. Only exception to charge with a 10watt brick is when you're not using the deck.

    if youve been using steamdeck for quite a while youll notice the weight difference compare to switch.. its best to invest a case with a built in kickstand or just a lightweight kickstand you can carry on the go.. the vents on the back will make it warm quickly if you left in on uneven surface like bed or couch which block the airflow.
    Also if you get a portable charger like baesus 65w. youll notice it also drains the powerbank quickly dont expect youll get a half day or more without the need of charging. it may only provide you an extra 2-3 hrs for a powerbank.

    • @Aereto
      @Aereto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Baseus 30Ah 65W is best if your bag can carry it along with the 65W charger. 100W charger is best used on docks since both the Deck and the Dock (supposedly when it comes to 3rd parties) handle the power management on their end.

    • @zyver6784
      @zyver6784 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aereto in my experience having using a baseus wont last you for 8 hrs. like they always advise that you have to sacrifice lowering your games resolution on high end games to longer your playtime even with a portable battery.

    A “Kill-A-Watt” will show you how much it’s drawing to play a game if your battery is 100%. You have to be careful when selecting chargers. A majority of them are basically a transformer to rectifier to smoothing cap. No voltage monitoring circuit. I only use Apple chargers because I know all of them have comparitors.

    • @notquitenerdy
      @notquitenerdy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s funny I use my Apple chargers or Anker chargers because I know those work. I have done some testing without seeing the draw. My iPad Pro 30w charger keeps it from draining while playing but doesn’t charge. My 65w charger charges it while playing but still slower than when it’s off obviously.

    Here's the thing, I've gotten the question "why not just buy a switch? it's cheaper" yeah well with the steam deck my biggest reason for wanting one is that I don't have to buy all the games I already own. I literally just log in to my steam account and there are all of my games. It is beyond switch in my opinion. Nintendo has such a fucking grip on their titles not letting them on other consoles or even on PC so I feel no need to downgrade to a worse system to play legend of link: the boy who can't talk but only scream. And that's not to say I don't like The legend of Zelda. One of my first memories of gaming is with N64 and Ocarina of time. But you can't even play that game legally anymore if you don't dig out the old n64 and hope that the cartridge, controller and console still work. With Steam Deck I don't need to open another store, make another account, charge that account with more moneydollarcoins and THEN get to buy a game I already own. I already own the games. I just log in and install. THAT'S why I want a Steam Deck.

    • @notquitenerdy
      @notquitenerdy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nice!! So where it will be awesome is for frame times on AAA games. The 40 for limit on demanding titles will be a game changer because the CPU can’t keep the GPU fed and you’ll get massive stutters. But limiting to 40 hard caps the game in hardware making the GPU and CPU run in sync. Night and day difference in how smooth it looks. Anything that’s a few years old or more though runs so good. You meat not need it but it’s a good tip for smooth game play. Haha. But that’s why steam deck is awesome. You can tweak all the settings to match your play style. I love it. So excited for you.

      24 fps in a movie theater, when sitting close to the screen, is nearly unwatchable. The same 24 (or 30) fps is much better at home. The arc distance moved between frames is much less on an apparently smaller screen. There is a literal and physical impact on screen size to frame rate.
