  • SO YOU WANT TO BE AN AP? | How to know if Administration is Right for You!
In this video, I interview Ms. Davina Coleman, assistant principal of Robert Smalls International Academy, in Beaufort, South Carolina, as she chronicles teacher leader to school leader. As a numeracy coach, I had the honor of serving as a mentor for Ms. Coleman during a portion of her tenure as a Skillful teacher of mathematics. She clearly outlines roles, responsibilities, and characteristics that are placed upon school administrators, and how to excel in the role. She has a passion for her craft. Leave a comment or question, and we'll be sure to answer.

I thoroughly enjoyed this interview, easy to follow, straightforward and personable ! I definitely think as teachers is easy to judge but we have to be reminded that different work doesn’t mean less work and that administrators are consistently working to ensure that the whole school can function.

Such truth and candor in this video. Thank you so very much! Ms. Coleman, you helped shine an incredible light on the parts of 'the job' that make me not want to do the job. You inspire me to say, "Yes! I want to do this work!"

This information was rich. I am awaiting my interview date as AP. Ms demonstrated herself and the content beautifully. The different content and information and levels of work and responsibilities. Wow. I am a guidance counselor that operate in 4 primary school, they call it cluster Counsellor. I work in a different school each day, with different background and cultures and it’s a lot of work as well. However it’s a contract work and the traveling each day to work is wearing me out. I apply for the opportunity in an effort to gain a permanent position and deliver more in the education system.I will listen to this content several time. A lot I learn. Blessings Ms. May God continue to guide you as AP and blessing to Ms show. I truly appreciate this🎉

This interview helped me a whole lot. I see myself as a teacher mental and my school board wants me to step in as a vice principal. Though I love the classroom, but I think administration will afford me to make greater decisions that improve the school on a larger scale.
