      With healthy hooves, no, but I can't imagine something like this doesn't hurt at least a little. Like, yeah, clipping your nails doesn't hurt normally, but if you had a massive abcess under your nail, it would be a whole different story. That said, it needs taken care of, and sometimes you just gotta suck it up for a little bit for the sake of making it better. I'm sure her hoof felt way better afterwards.

    How do we treat a cow with a problem on both toes? We give her a delicate and sensitive pedicure, new socks, and then provide her with a luxury bedroom with a premium comfort mattress, room service, and all her meals in bed until she's ready for a second pedicure in a few weeks time.

      I live in northern Alberta (Canada) and occasionally during the winter it gets to -40 or lower (which is the same temp in Celsius and Fahrenheit) and my best advice is many, MANY layers. I'm talking multiple pairs of socks, fuzzy leggings under pants, thick hats that will cover your ears, gloves under mittens, and a coat over a hoodie over sweater over a longsleeve. I also have a few fleece-lined masks that are great for protecting cheeks and noses. Warm drinks are your best friend, make sure all of your stick-out-bits (ears, fingers, toes, probably noses too) are covered, and if you go inside somewhere that's warm (car, home...) your feet will warm up much faster if you take off your boots and socks. Also, if your fingers get too cold, your armpits are great sources of heat so don't be afraid to give yourself an anti-frostbite hug. Good luck!

  • @TerryProthero
    @TerryProthero 3 ปีที่แล้ว +268

    I didn't think about the fact that you added the voice over later. But now that you say it, the sound quality is much better that way. It also allows you to concentrate on your work at the time rather than having to think about what you are going to say. Most hoof trimmers I see on TH-cam don't do it that way, but it seems like a pretty good way to handle it to me. I have seen hoof trimmers use partial blocks on both claws in cases like these which concentrate the weight on the parts of the claw that aren't compromised to get the lesion site off the ground. But I think you are accomplishing something similar by the way you trimmed the claws.

      Since you said "was more comfotable after it was finished", I think you were not talking about the pain of trimming the hoof, but about how the pain of that unhealthy thing going on in the hoof, right? Asking because some people don't understand, and it would be good to clarify.
      I'm not really sure about how and what the cow was feeling, though yes it looked painful. I can only imagine this discomfort in her hoof when she stepped on it before he trimmed it. Really interesting

    They dont talk about this kind stuff at peta. do they ? They make every diary farmer seem like they are evil baby stealing monsters. In reality (at least the dairy farm my grandparents owned) they love their animals and never want to see them suffer. They spend their lives devoted to giving cows and humans the best of both worlds.
    We were a small farm but we loved our animals. Its takes blood sweat and tears to run a business and family like that. My grandfather had his jaw broken 3 different times and places - he never reacted in anger towards the cows and donkeys that kicked him. He would laugh it off and took responsibility for it.
    These videos really take me back. Your gentle and calm demeanor reminds me of him. So glad I came across these channel. I thank you for taking excellent care of them. But i think you missed your calling to be a surgeon.
    Keep up the awesome work! Much love from Louisiana.

    I see a lot of Hoof Trimmers using those little spay bottles to clean the hoof. I think you need one of those little bottles like painters use to clean car panels before they paint them, the ones that have a little hand pump and sprays an adjustable stream out. Then you could clean the lesions site without having to squeeze the spray bottle over and over. Just a thought. Hope everyone's having a good day👋👋😎
