    I like how careful you are when you let that mechanism grab the cow's foot. You even put a cushion between the hoof and the metal and you go slow, so the foot is not yanked so brutally. Greetings from Germany.

    • @brigidtheirish
      @brigidtheirish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The "cushion" is more of a spacer to make sure the foot is snug and secure. Cushioning is a side effect, but both reasons involve comfort. Not sure which "slow" you're talking about. If you're talking about lifting the foot up, that's the normal speed of the hydraulics on that machine. If you're talking about the grinder, there wouldn't be any yanking. If you're talking about the knife work, also, yanking isn't much of an issue.

I understand that sometimes no matter what u do it will hurt them but he never tried any other way. You do what u do but if you see it hurts the cows you don't continue to dig at that one spot. You go around and get everything off inorder to get to that part without harming the cow constantly. He just went at it with all force. You take your time and the cows needs come above doing it the fastest way. He fixed the hoof no doubt. He just did it by continously scrapping the hurt part and then after he got to the bottom of the area he would do everything around. The poor cow just jumped and flinched every second.
    Needless to say I respect you and what you do. You treat these cows with as much care as you possibly can and do everything to make if so you don't hurt them during the process. Again obviously there are going to be times that you can prevent the pain but you try. That's what matters.

    To say that I am intrigued, Nate, is to say the very least, indeed!
    And I wonder just how much the “tools of the trade” have actually changed over the past 3k~3.5k years. Would you happen to have any information about that? 🤓
    Also, sir, have you ever filmed and posted a stand-alone episode that focused solely, (bad🙄puns!), on your instruments and the differences for how each of them are utilized to do its particular work?
    I have shared a couple of your videos with friends of mine who are graduates of CalPoly-SLO’s Animal Husbandry & Vet Tech Certification Programme and they’ve goaded me into asking these questions. (As you can tell, I put up a great fight!🤓)
    I, well, *We patiently await your reply, sir.
    Please continue posting your amazing materials, Nate, and thank you!

    I'm probably getting this story wrong but i remember learning in my highschool art class about ancient cave paintings, and there was a painting of a bull with it's front legs crossed and a person with their front legs crossed standing in front of it. Eventually, it was found out that the crossed legs were supposed to symbolize something akin to death and religion, so it's cool for me to see this idea of the bull with the crossed legs reflected in this cow

    I appreciate your technical explanations. It it mainly dairy cows u deal with? Do you have a guesstimate of what % cows get hoof problems? Do all of then need a trim? Do steers who roam the prairie need as much tending to their hooves as dairy cows? I'm a retired RN.

    • @NatetheHoofGuy
      @NatetheHoofGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes primarily dairy cows. Less than 10% will develop foot problems on my farms. Animals on pasture need less trimming because the shed naturally. Most cows will get trimmed 1-3 times per year.

    • @rileymott8776

      I believe they have to get them trimmed, like horses. They basically walk on toenails and if they dont get trimmed, it can cause pain

    • @envyllaw4487

      Depends on the environment the cow is in. Nate has a viseo about why wild and organic/pasture cattle need less trimming than these cattle.
