    Those "flappy pedals" you mentioned, are called "Reverser Latching Levers" and their function is literally to latch the Thrust Levers from sliding back beyond the Forward Idle Detent. To activate reverse thrust, you unlatch the Thrust Levers and pull them back into Reverse Idle and then up to maximum reverse thrust.

    • @pilotgord
      @pilotgord 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The official designation is "Thrust Reverser Levers". Even though they're called "levers", they just unlock the associated THR lever to allow it to go backward from the idle stop (on the A320F). On the A330/340 they're called the same but operate differently: The THR Lever does not go backward from the idle stop: the reversers levers are two smaller levers attached to them that have independent motion range.

      Same here! I started simming with the Hotas X back in 2014, and have had it as my primary ever since. The only addons to my rig was the TCA Throttle Quadrant this year, and the TFRP pedals a couple of months ago(almost a year). The Hotas X is perfect if someone is starting out, and isn't sure if they will take up simming seriously. If you're flying in the online networks, and do any type of civilian flights, including failures, the Hotas X is a bargain. Absolutely love that baby.

      Perhaps i got unlucky, but for me the T flight, right after warranty ran out, started having horrible yaw jitter. I was able to fix the potentiometer, but a bit after that the squeaking started. The grease they use for the ball joint and the ball joint itself are just terrible. At least if it is in heavy use. At some point it ran completely dry and was basically stuck at any position i would put it into. Disassembling and properly regreasing the ball joint was a pain in the ***.

    I got the T16000. I think it is the most versatile of the bunch. The airbus HOTAS is too specific, the Warthog very expensive. Even after 4 months of MSFS I don't have assigned every button, so there is still room to grow, it's precise enough for any situation. For me the best bang for the buck.

    • @silverwatchdog
      @silverwatchdog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I got the airbus tca. It's also quite versatile. The actual flight stick is not very different from the rest aside from aesthetics. I personally love the blue Airbus colour scheme on it. The throttle quadrant is a bit more specialised because it follows the snapping into the different airbus throttle gates, but you can remove it. So it is quite versatile and it really boils down aesthetics when comparing the T16000 and the airbus hotas

It does have some contact problem with the cable and the stick, but far better than what is to be expected from a 30€ thrust lever + joystick (used to cost 30€ back in the day here haha). 2 years ago I bought the T Flight HOTAS X for only 50€ (it's ~80€ now). I was a bit concerned about the price/quality, but I thought that 50€ is not a big deal, and I bought it to see if I like to play with this type of joysticks, thinking I will upgrade anyway. I never felt the need to upgrade, because I only play single player games, and it does its job amazingly well for such a very low price.

    I went through 3 T-Flight HOTAS in two years and they all failed within 3 weeks to 6 months. The first two had the same problem; the joystick started to signal a left yaw constantly, requiring me to constantly yaw right just to fly straight. The third unit did that with a variation; whenever I pushed the throttle forward, it would also signal yaw left. The problem with the first two is widely discussed on the internet and is generally accepted as a design flaw which will never be fixed. I'm done with the T-Flight and would be very reluctant to spend $200 to $400 on their more expensive HOTAS units.

    I’ve had the T16000 for 4-5 years with heavy usage the last 2.5-3 years. Everything on the stick and thruster works great still and I use my equipment hard and rough. I just upgraded to the thrust master warthog like 4 days ago. I only reason was because I wanted to. I would definitely buy the T16,000 over again and would highly recommend getting it starting out. Mostly cost reason. Why spend $5-600 if you find out you don’t like the games or you don’t use it as much as you thought. Plus the thrust master does not have pedals… making you spend another 5-600 for that. So T16000 is definitely a great starting and long term playing.

    I've got both Hotas X and T16000 with the throttle. I bought Hotas X in 2014 and it was a great start and upgrade from keyboard and mouse. I didn't use it for a few years and when I returned to DCS in 2022 it was very squaky and I couldn't grease it however I tried. And the middle deadzone on it's throttle is abominable (at least for flight sims). Forget any refueling with this one. (I admire if you did it.)
    T.16000M and TWCS throttle are different. For a few bucks more the level is much higher. Many more buttons (especiall thanks to the throttle) and much more precise joystick. There are problems too though. The throttle is jittery and requires regular potentiometer cleaning with a spray. And Z-axis (twist) on the joystick is jittery too for many units - including mine.
    Right now I'm using TWCS Throttle with tentative plans to replace it (not sure what for yet) and VKB Gladiator with Kosmosima grip - and while the VKB stick is 220+- Eur on it's own, I just love the quality.
    But perhaps without the Thrustmaster stuff (and its deficiencies) I'd not get to VKB of to whatever comes next. So yeah, it was part of the way. But if you really love flight sims, just skip the Hotas X and go for T.16000M+TWCS Throttle combo right away. Pedals... I don't know. They are not bad for 60 Eur or so (in combo), but they are way too narrow (at least for males, I guess) and not that precise. They have potentiometer that requires regular cleanup too (otherwise don't expect any precision).

    When it comes to sticks: I'd recommend staying away from the 16000 and getting the VKB Gladiator NXT Evo instead. It's a bit more pricey, but it's worlds better than the TM and will probably last longer than it too. Not only does it come with 32k res sensors, but it also has a gimbal, ball-bearings and independently adjustable clutches and springs. Meaning you can tune the X- and Y-axis precisely to your preference. For example: I have my Y-axis set pretty stiffly (strongest spring, "hard" clutch) while the X-axis is tuned more lightly with the medium spring and its clutchh set to light to medium. Its action is buttery smooth and super-precise. No wobble whatsoever when you let the stick return to 0/0 from full deflection.
    I use the TM 16000 TWCS myself and I view it as a stop-gap measure until I'll dish out more money on a better throttle (WH, WinWing, etc). For its price, the TWCS is a pretty good deal however (IMO), just don't expect it to last for years and years. Plus the sliding action isn't great. Re-greased mine with Teflon/silicone paste and improved things quite a bit, but it's still far from perfect. That said: It was "only" €85 as a stand-alone and it gets the job done. Certainly beats having to use the keyboard and/or the small throttle lever and base-buttons on my VKB stick.

    • @Robert-G
      @Robert-G ปีที่แล้ว

      not a single one of their products makes any sense, IMO.
      the T16k variants have really bad precision, and not all axes are hall effect. Also only very few buttons can be reached…
      Especially twist will fail quickly, and considering how easy the fix hall effect would be, it is amazing how they did not fix it in the airbus cash grab version.
      That thing only shows how little they care about quality.

    One thing I find unrealistic about the Thrustmaster Airbus joystick is that when you bank the aircraft you have to keep the joystick deflected to the side you want to bank, or the plane goes back to straight and level flight. I am just a former weekend real world Piper Cherokee pilot, not a professional pilot, so I could be wrong about the real airbus joy stick, but in the Piper Cherokee, which has a control wheel, you would bank the aircraft by turning the control wheel in the direction you wanted to bank, and when you reached the bank angle you wanted you would return it to center. The aircraft would hold that bank angle, with perhaps some minor adjustments needed, depending on conditions.

    Thank you very much for your comparison! Can I ask you: how would you compare the springs of the T.16000M joystick to the springs of the TCA Sidestick Airbus? In the T.16000M the springs were too strong, it took a significant force to start moving the joystick from the center. Because of that it was difficult to control precisely very small movements around the center.
    I am looking for a joystick that allows for precise, very small movements around the center without needing to much force to move the joystick (for AFV gunnery simulation). Thank you!

    Firstly, Thanks for the video. What im gonna ask you is, with which stick you feel the flare at most? Im user of thrustmaster tca captain pack. But the stick is so soft and whem im on the flare, its so soft and i have to pull almost fully back to make a flare. However u dont need to make that much pressure on stick in real, actually should be so gentle in real airbus stick. If u used all sticks u mentioned, can u make an adjustment on hotas warthdog to make it softer or harder to pull or push it? Big Thanks.

    I do like the Airbus Edition and that I do fly Airbus allot however it's more suited for the airbus and end of the day I fly GA flights and Boeing and my point is over 200 hours flying the C208B with the Airbus Edition is not for me LOL and it's not cheap if you have the full packaged. The T,16000M has the same stick style but more suited for flying just about everything and seems to be the right price. I mean I'm not made out of money and funds are not there and so maybe the T,16000M is the right option. Then again Stick or Yoke? LOL

    Nice video, very informative. Couple of questions, I'm new to to so please forgive my ignorance. Can the TCA Airbus pack be configured for general aviation aircraft ( you know, learning in a Cessna) or is it specific to Airbus, also, does the Warthog have twist capability for rudder control. or would I need separate rudder pedal?

    I don't see the 16000 being ambidextrous... at least if you consider the throttle. There's no way to use the throttle properly while using the stick with the left hand.

    I would say the only downside to the warthog is that you need rudder pedals as there is no Z axis on either the stick or throttle

    • @Chewwy94
      @Chewwy94  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know some people use the spoiler on the throttle quadrant as a rudder axis as it can be centred, but just for taxiing purposes. Definitely think if people are going to invest into these some rudder pedals complete the setup!

  • @31clint
    @31clint 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've got the T16000M dual sticks but the right stick has started to send Z left twist signals every time I touch or move it. I've started to use the left stick and then I use the right slider for throttle which is great for MFS because I need to use my right hand on the mouse to look around the cockpit and interact with the different controls while still maintaining control of the aircraft with the left stick. I want to get the Warthog but then I'll need to take my hand off the stick to manipulate the mouse so I'm kind of torn. It's a lot of money to spend on something that may or may not work for the system I currently have in place. I guess I could try to keep the left stick plugged in and switch to it when needed?

  • @stefanhibels
    @stefanhibels 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    have the tca side-stick, quadrant and add-on pack, works just perfect... the only thing i can say about the side-stick... if you use it also as rudder-control (i'm waiting for for the rudder/break pedals to arrive) you have to fix the stick in place.. for high crosswind landing where you need a lot of rudder, the base likes to move in the same direction and could cause to loose control

      If it's within months it would be under warranty and you likely have a defective unit. If it happens out of warranty trying to fix it isn't hard and shown here: th-cam.com/video/gVzhEgHS4bA/w-d-xo.html

    PC - Joystick Saitek Cyborg EVO war damals der beste Joystick überhaupt. Handballenverstellung (die Größe anpassen an die Hände) und echtes Force Feedback. Diese Technologien werden heutzutage nicht mehr verbaut. Stattdessen sind alle neuen Joysticks nur für grosse Hände und ohne Force Feedback. In meinen Augen ein Rückschritt.
    Google Translate:
    PC joystick Saitek Cyborg EVO was the best joystick at that time. Palm adjustment (size to fit hands) and true force feedback. These technologies are no longer used today. Instead, all new joysticks are only for big hands and without force feedback. In my opinion a step backwards.

    I had the Hotas.X for all of a day in DCS before immediately realizing I needed a TM Warthog. The one thing that almost made me want to keep the Hotas.X was for Battlefield, however I quickly realized that any flying in that game was trash regardless of device.
    There are a downsides to the Thrustmaster Warthog for some users as it forces you to have rudder pedals. I don't know about the T.1600M, but the Hotas.X has a stick twist axis for rudder pedals. Also, the TM Warthog stick is designed for realistic military simulation environments. This means that the amount of time you actually spend firing your weapon is very small, and is a very premeditated action which you knew was likely happening at least 60 seconds prior, if not 2+ minutes prior. Much more of your time is spent finding, identifying, and marking targets, and then setting up weapons delivery. Outside of close range dog fighting DCS pilots don't "react" to something and then quickly hit the fire button which is very different than space simulators. If you need to fire lasers rapidly and comfortably, I would steer clear of TM Warthog as well.
