The Warthog is still a good choice, but there are even better options now. Virpil/VKB/Winwing are a step ahead in gimbal design.

Ok, there's the Winwing Orion, the Virpil sticks, the VKB sticks, VPForce is making an FFB stick. Even the VKB NXT Evo is much better and isn't honestly as expensive, of course, it's the stick only, but still. Thrustmaster and Logitech/Saitek have ancient gimbal designs that yeah, they work, and yes, they were the best but in their time, and that was a long long time ago.

@@calmac938 oh yeah, as soon as I have the money, I'll order one myself too. I've been waiting for something to replace my Sidewinder FFB2, since flying helos without force feedback is impossible to me now, and seems like VPForce Rhino is the way to go
@@mrpetenothing3753 partially same, I love the throttle, especially because the Hog was my first module and having all the controllers automatically set up made learning the module easy.
The stick base though, its ancient gimbal design doesn't compare to all the new stuff
Given how long TM Warthog was clear top of game for both non-sim pit and sim-pit premium gear…I’d call it the goat. It’s silly to call their designs ancient when it’s simply mocking the real thing. I don’t give them particular praise for it because they aren’t inventing but there is no critique either.
Virpil catches up if you’re fine with genetics HOTAS losing the mimicked military style. Virpil stuff can be lacking in switches that need to hold a position (button) which DCS has a bit of. As such, it is clearly better for space sims or MSFS. Virpil throttle base is generically really good and the slider on the throttle grip is a perfect use case for DCS zoom view. The problem is for certain aircraft that should probably be a different control.
Wingwing Orion2 system I think finally eclipses TM Warthog throttle base in almost every way. They keep the mock military style, but they made a conscious decision to group generic/common controls of various 3rd and 4th gen fighters. On a throttle base alone I think this is a good decision because every platform is so different and won’t pack useful controls near the throttle grip. The F-16EX could be a Warthog stick killer given how many controls they’ve added to it. Provided the real controls of the F-16 and A-10 haven’t been made more difficult to access, it’s a clear win there too. And the killer feature of the Orion2 system to me is how they allow switching to any throttle grip they make in the future and have an authentic F-16 and Ka-50 collective grip out. I’m waiting on the F-16 throttle to arrive.
All in all I’ve had the TM Warthog for 11 years now and got the F/A-18 grip on a separate stick. Waiting on Winwing Orion2 throttle + F-16EX stick to add: and Virpil control bases 1 and 2 to support all aircraft common controls I can’t push onto either throttle base.
The trend that TM set which Virpil and Winwing clearly followed was in making premium gear that is capable of sitting on top of a normal desk. Many people willing to spend an invest a bit still won’t have a completely separate room and PC for flight sims versus productivity.
@@EbonySeraphim I'm not talking about the design of the grip and throttle, I'm talking about the design of their gimbal. It definitely isn't "replicating" the real thing, because the real thing doesn't have a plastic gimbal that develops stiction over time and has a big play in the center
great externals, but the internals suck. Awful gimbals. Virpil base+thrustmaster stick= best

Thrustmaster have outdated software and hardware. Winwing and Virpil both have incredible products that are much much better. TM support also might be the worst there is.
all the joysticks on the Hotas are made for the weapon system controls on the A-10, e.g. you spot a tank so you fire a laser at it for your laser guided bombs/missiles.

This hotas is old and not worth the price anymore , i would recommend a virpil stick with a cheaper throttle like the thrustmaster twcs throttle. This because the build quality of the throttle is not what i expected for the price. And the software is really bad, and when you get it working, you still need to launch the profile everytime you start your pc up to be able to use the switches properly

I've had my TM Warthog for I don't know how many years now and still works great. I picked up a set of Vipril rudders a few month backs and got rid of the thrustmaster pedals for DCS and I use bothh for MS 2020 also.

Far from the best joystick ever made. There are much better ones out there. The warthog is stiff, Doesn't have any way to adjust it and it definitely an expensive, entry level joystick. It also is very difficult to buy internal parts to fix it as opposed to others where the parts are readily available.
You can remove the spring, and use the 4 small springs that are inside, on top to make it less stiff.
Or completely remove the spring altogether and get no detent in the middle, but you loose the recentering. That's how i've been using it.
I did order Viripl stick and throttle though.
I’ve had this joystick for like 3-5 years or something like that and it was great but I switched to a brunner yoke as it really wasn’t good for arliners and I didn’t fly military aircraft that much

Just upgraded from TM Warthog to WINWING Orion 2 HOTAS with F15EX Throttle Grip. I hated the TDC controller on the TM Warthog and a number of the switches had started to fail.
It's that good, most of the lads from the Grim Reapers YT channel use them and these are proper hard core DCS pilots..

Well Warthog it's not that great... at least the base, it's a cheap plastic gimbal inside and it will eventually 100% gonna break, Virpil, VKB and Winwing are 10000000 times better, it's a spring full metal gimbals, also if you really want a A-10 replica just buy the Winwing one, it's a lot better

Dont buy these sticks, they suck!!! they are great when they actually function properly, but we have 2 sets that have both gone bad... the throttles and sticks both.... and good luck contacting them for parts.... have fun with the hoops you have to jump through to even get them to tell you they have parts.
I also use the hotas warthog its pretty good👍
This joystick literally doesn't even make the top 5 and theres only around 10 in the whole market........ it is not the best joystick ever made, its a 500$ metal joystick with the same internals as a 200$ joystick, if you're going to buy something above mid range you buy from virpil, vkb or winwing, you do not go to thrustmaster for anything other than ENTRY level sim gear.

I have to say this is by far my lowest choice. It had a high-grade feel, but the lack of momentary switches is an absolute deal breaker for me.
Warthog is not the best joystick. It's good while working, but definitely not the best. I bought the throttle first and it was pretty good but the pinky switch breaks easily, The joystick base sticks after a couple of months to where its hard to make very precise movements. I replaced it twice and the same thing. I've used the throttle waaaay longer then I used the joystick. Literally had the joystick just sitting for months because of the base. Base cost about 120 on amazon
