Just purchased the Velocity One Flightstick the other day after watching your videos on it. It works beautifully with MSFS2020 on the Xbox and screams quality which is remarkable for the price point. It such a sturdy product - no regrets! I’ve not been brave enough to do the firmware upgrade yet lol. Thanks for a great video on this.
Turtle beach though out nearly everything besides the stability which I had to makeshift a lap base for. Only other thing is the stick twist is less confident than the HOTAS, Would be great to have rudder pedals with it, but those are much more expensive than the stick itself and I just cant justify it. The build quality and features make the HOTAS feel like a Fisher Price toy.
Hello The Trustmaster works with conventional potentiometers (which wear and clog). The Turtle works with modern magnetic sensors, which is a big step forward. Its trim wheel is also a big asset, I totally agree with you ... Thank you for this little comparative test.
The problem I always had with the TM hotas one was the throttle was not ambidextrious, meaning if you did want to separate them and place the throttle on the right side of the joystick, you couldn’t use it effectively because the shape of it only fits your left hand. There are some aircraft that have the throttle to the right side of the stick, such as the Diamond DA62 and soon to be released Cirrus SF-50 Vision Jet. I am hoping TB will release a separate velocityone throttle that you can place on either side of the flightstick and use with either hand.
CONCERNING THRUSTMASTER LOOSE THROTTLE: When I first got a Thrustmaster I read about the Velcro but after trying two brands couldn't find any Velcro tabs that were the right thickness, and it wasn't working. So you can try the Velcro thing, which obviously works if you have the right size, or.... What I did was use heavy duty duct tape (I used Gorilla). 'Not' the regular thin duct tape that can turn to goop over time. Then I just made some little squares and that worked beautifully for me.. I actually have two little pieces on either side of the throttle shaft, and they're stacked, but they slightly taper... For instance, pull the throttle stick all the way back, make a little square that fits comfortably within that gap on the base of the shaft, but then make one about 1/3-1/2 the length... Put the smaller piece down first, then the longer piece on top.. Now this provides good tension for the throttle (ans remains where you park it) in addition to providing a gradient in tension. __--T--__ Imagine it like that, where the hyphen represent where the tape is double stacked. Now when you're pulling it to full throttle or fully cut, the tension increases slightly as you reach the extremes, which lets you feel where you are on the throttle without having to look down at it. PS - Don't worry about the tape leaving residue. As long as you're using something like Gorilla or T-Rex brand heavy duty duct tape, it'll be fine. It's the regular duct tape that can leave a mess.. I've left little patches of heavy duty tape on my throttle for months, and then swapped it out for fresh tape and adhesive residue was not an issue (still looked brand new when old tape was peeled away). * Remember, if you want the taper, put that smaller strip down first, then the longer one. That way it glides as it's passing into and out of the base and not catching.
Velocity one does not play all flight games on the Xbox. If you want to play all flight games go for the HOTAS ONE. I gave my HOTAS ONE to my friend. Big mistake. But if the Velocity One was truly universal then I would prefer that one.
Hi Huddison, Thanks for the video - even if watching your videos can turn out to be an expensive experience for me! First of all - and I may being pedantic here... but only one of these is a HOTAS - Hands On Throttle And Stick... the other is a flight stick with integrated throttle. As you say, for civilian aircraft control, the throttle is not altered substantially during the flight apart from when changing between phases of the flight - so the benefits of a true HOTAS setup are somewhat limited. If you also play other games controlling a flying vessel, particularly space based games such as Elite Dangerous where simultaneous control over all 6 axes / 12 directions of movement (XYZ thrust and rotation) - which is really only the case within space - then a HOTAS system is much more beneficial. I have used the T Flight HOTAS for many years - and have flown with many other pilots who also use this device on the XBox in Elite Dangerous - and can give the following feedback: - The build quality is atrocious - most people using this device have had to either replace it (multiple times in some cases) or take it apart and clean contacts / re-solder connections which have come loose. Admittedly space combat in ED provides much more stress on the device compared to the minimal and controlled input required for atmospheric flight in FS2020 - but even so, this device is built to a price - and then sold at double that due to the Xbox license (see comparative costs of otherwise identical HOTAS 4 for PC.) - and many users have experienced significant drift, especially in the rudder axis. Personally I have had to resolder the throttle once, repair the USB cable twice, and have to have a substantial dead zone on the rudder axis - and even then the movement of the rudder axis is 'spiky' - I really need to take that apart and resolder, but that is much harder to access than the throttle due to the potentiometer being within the handle... - The ability to be able to separate throttle and stick... does not provide enough separation for a natural cockpit positioning with the seat between the 2 devices. It's frustratingly close to being enough... but not quite. - All cables - connection to xbox via DIN like adapter to USB A, and connection between throttle and stick, are captive. Damage any cables, and you'll need to be handy with the soldering iron (or self soldering heat activated connectors). If you want to separate the throttle and stick more for a cockpit like seating position, then that will require cutting the connecting cable and then splicing in a connecting cable (there are 16 wires running between the 2 devices, which allows for the use of self splicing ethernet sockets and 2 ethernet cables if anyone is interested... something which I did to mine to allow it to be used in a more ergonomic position...) - Ergonomics... be really careful with these if you suffer from RSI. All the surfaces are hard plastic, and I know many people who have experienced significant pain from repetitive use for longer periods gripping the handles. Again - probably not as severe an issue for FS as it is for ED, due to the more set and forget nature of most stages of a flight. This is probably something to be more careful with for Helicopter control, which is much more "hands on" All in all, even at the relatively low price point which the HOTAS1 is available at... it does not feel great value. The Velocity One Yoke (which @Huddison told me I had to buy ;-) despite costing me over 4 times what I paid for the HOTAS1, feels much better value, if you can afford it. I cannot speak for the Velocity One Flight Stick - as I currently cannot justify buying in addition to the V1 Yoke when I already own the H1 - but I suspect it will be similar story there (I'll leave it to @Huddison's ongoing reports on that...) I would not recommend anyone purchase the H1 for use in FS2020 unless that is literally all you can afford (and even then I would suggest you may be better waiting) due to the poor build quality, poor ergonomics, and frequent reliability issues which are encountered by the majority of serious users.
You do may some good points there, particularly about cables being captive. Although I must add that I have owned my Hotas 4 for over five years and it still operates as though new. Granted, I don't use it daily (rarely at all nowadays), but for a low cost Hotas, it has served me well.
@@Huddison I suppose that really is the long and short of it... How much are you going to use it... At its current discounted price of £59... that's the same price as standard X-Box game, and not much more than a standard Xbox controller... if you get at least a year of use out of it before it is unusable (worst case scenario, with standard UK warranty)... then it is a low cost of entry. If you are going to use it extensively and hard (as admittedly I and many of my gaming contacts did) - then I think you will be frustrated with it - as indeed I was. If you are going to use it a few times per month... then unless you are one of the unlucky ones (One of my squad mates had to replace his 3 times within 1 year - with at least one of the devices going straight back in the box due to uncontrollable drift in multiple axises) - then it's hard to argue against the low cost of entry. I think TM went through a really bad patch as far as build quality was concerned - with a significant proportion of their devices being shipped broken, or failing within the first few weeks. Hopefully that has improved now - I certainly haven't heard as many complaints recently as I used to a year or 2 back... But if you are going to be using on a more regular basis... then I really feel it's worth spending the extra cash.
Agreed, the TM built quality is weak, and I have cleaned out the potentiometers twice now, about every 100 hours of flight. I was prepared to cut the cable and fabricate an extra length between the throttle and stick for my dedicated cockpit, but I tried a trial fit with the TM in its original configuration and it worked with no extra cord to spare. Yeah TM was cheap with the short cable between the modules.
Phew thank you very much, ive just got an xbox, and msfs2020 I've played it on my dated pc and it doesn't play well, hence the xbox, it doesn't look as good but was looking at getting the Hotas 1 but you've changed my mind thank you I'll be getting the turtle beach now👍👍
Huddison I have both systems. I no longer use the hotas one. I am left handed so it is a no Brainer. Add the trim wheel and the stick response and the flight stick wins going away. I highly recommend it.
@@Pretender_Gamer Yes, I recommend! Very high quality for the price, and feels immersive to me on MS Flight Simulator (although this is my first time using a flight stick and I am no pilot).
@@pricelessppp If you are referring to the HOTAS1, not it does not. It has cheap potentiometers, which are prone to clogging up and require cleaning periodically (or frequently if you are in an environment with a lot of dust / pet hair etc.) with poor quality solder connections which have a tendency to work loose in use.
@@pricelessppp I can't speak for them - I only have the stick. I purchased many years ago not long after they were released for Elite Dangerous - which does not really benefit hugely from Rudder pedals when flying a spaceship!
Hotas Warthog stick on the right...and a Razor keypad on the left... The keypad can be used for rudder since the Warthog doess not have stick twist... Works great for ED and SC...
Had the hotas for nearly 2 years now, problem free. Added 4 feet of wire between the throttle and flight stick, and that allowed me to hide all wires in the simulator. Love the realistic, separate throttle. The zturtle beach is nice, but those levers are way to small to feel like a real throttle.
I was curious about the Velocity One, but I think I’ll pass. I have a Playseat Challenger with a pair of shifter platforms on the left and right chair legs, with the HOTAS One separated I have the throttle on left and stick on the right. This cockpit was designed for race simulation that I adapted for flight, instead of a brake/clutch/throttle assembly I installed rudder pedals and where the steering wheel assembly would mount I made a small desk with a keyboard and trackerball Velcro’d to the top. If you play with the controller on your lap I think the Turtle Beach product makes sense, but with my cockpit configuration there is no place for it. By the way I saw Thrustmaster has made an Airbus inspired HOTAS system that is Xbox compatible, that has peaked my interest and would open the door for some nice multi-engine flight simulation. If you can get your hands on that Airbus HOTAS and do a review that would be great.
The Thrustmaster was fun until it started drifting crazy. I ended up buying the Turtle Beach Velocity one/flight stick/pedals. The yoke setup is awesome and the flight stick is great for helicopters.
another wonderful review! What bothers me most about the Hotas One is that it is made not ambidextrious! So if I fly a Cessna or the Cirrus 22 with the joystick in my left hand and the throttle with the right hand, it is worthless. The Velocity One Flightstick, on the other hand, can be flown anytime and by anyone! It can be adjusted for each hand, and you learn to operate the plane with your hands on the controls like those on the plane!
I bought the original Hotas X when FS2020 launched and have had zero problems with 2 years of use for casual flying in the lounge on my Series X. For serious flying on PC I use a Thrustmaster Warthog setup with F18 add-on grip and the simply unbeatable TPR rudder pedals. Simply no comparison between them. It looks like the Velocity stick is a good entry level stick to consider if you don't already own any Hotas, but I'll stick with the Hotas X for my XBox flying.
You are very lucky i think i have been through 8 T-Flights on my Xbox the potetiometers just fail after about 3 months and start sending false full detent signals which can't be gotten rid of with deadzones. I assume you don't use it alot i used my T-Flight 3 hours a day and not one lasted more than 3 months, but at the time i had no choice but the T-Flight on XBox
@@nemisis_wolf That's a lot of play time. I only play casually on the XBox with the majority of my flying on PC with the Warthog setup plus VR. The pots should definitely last longer than that. Have you tried IPA spray to clean them?
Love the Thrustmaster T.flight one for pc. got it 2 weeks ago for flight sim..haven't delve'd into it super deep, just happy it's better than playin with kb.
I have used the Hotas one for about a year with xbox s series. Overall I like the stick & throtle although the configuration is more for a fighter jet, etc. With using it with the Airbus A320 I configure it as if I was sitting right seat. Getting the Thrustmaster rudder pedals soon, thanks for the review on those! Would love to send you a pix of my setup.
I had the same loose throttle issue with 2 Hotas Ones (returned one, second still had the issue.) I have a similar kludge set up to give more tension in it, but seeing this video I think it's time for the upgrade.
A recent follow up from "Robinovich" at the Flight Simulator Forum regarding losing Profiles on Xbox with 40th Ed. & VF1 Controller after V 1.4.0 firmware update: Robinovich: I have had the following response from Microsoft support: Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We just want to confirm that this issue has been tracked in our internal bug tracker. Since this issue will need to be addressed in a patch, we are going to close this report. I did delete and reinstall the sim, and that has worked for me. I was very reluctant to do it because of the 200gb of data I had to download and the time it took. But I now have full control of profile creation and saving. I suggested to the developers that they try and overcome this issue because it’s not the first time it’s happened with an update. So you have a choice, do a complete install - this worked for me but no guarantee for anyone else or wait for the patch, developers haven’t given a timeframe for this.
Have the hotas one and used Velcro in the throttle to fix the horrendous loose throttle . But selling it now as I’ve ordered the turtle beach velocity one due to build quality and space saving
I used to have the HOTAS (its sitting inside the closet somewhere in my home) and I didn't like it very much since then I've had a few sticks in between until the V1 FS. BTW I am not sure why there is a question here. One is about a decade old design and the other is barely out in the market.By far I really enjoy using the elavator trim wheel in the V1FS but not the V1 Yoke which I think I will sell it on eBay later on since I never was able to get the trim wheel on that working properly.
Hi Huddison. One feature of the Turtle Beach Flightstick I haven't seen you mention yet in any of your videos is the detent switches on the two levers. Great for airliner sim pilots as you've basically got built in TOGA or reverse thrust. Also it looks like they're mappable buttons within the sim, so presumably you could map them to whatever you want, although not sure what else would be appropriate for these! Maybe speedbrakes?
Great, thanks! I was looking specifically for the information IF the levers had detents... Turtle Beach's website doesn't seem to mention them, either. Now I'm even more interested 😊
I have two Hotas. One for my PC and One for my Xbox. That make it more seamless to switch between the two. But a trim wheel would would have been nice.
Hi found this today sadly doesnt work on elite dangerous on xbox :( i have hotas one that works with ed and ms flight, buying to just play in ms flight and have to change to hotas one to play elite doesnt worth it :(
I was thinking long and hard about this for a long time. Decided to go off on a tangent. I bought the Microsoft Adaptive Controller to try out instead. In theory this will allow me to use joysticks, flight sticks and other controllers on the Xbox. If all else fails, I could try hooking up my Horn Hayabusa nightstick with the Xbox. But I will be testing out my VKB Gladiator Evo F14 with the Adaptive Controller to see how it goes. Fingers crossed. I was going to test it out last night but it looks like I needed to update the game on the Xbox. OOps
@@Huddison No joy with the VKB :( they demo-ed it with a Logitech flight stick at that time. I might try my Airbus sticks and throttle next. If all else fails, I probably should wait for the Turtle Beach to be launched in Australia
I have the og hotas one that looks just like the one on the video but has red trim, I've had it for like 7 years, but it's starting to wear down and the rudder yaw is drifting around in game. So I want a flight stick that uses hall effect instead of potentiometers which wear down. I just like the small foot print of the Turtle beach velocity one flight stick so it doesn't take space on my desk and it just seems to have so many good features. However I also liked the hotas one to just have it on my lap as it was a single unit, and it worked very well and was very comfortable. Never had problems with tired legs from having it on my lap though haha.
Useful comparison, glad I waited for the Velocity One stick. Agree with you, the stick oozes quality, the trim wheel is excellent and make it more like a real aircraft where you have to trim as you change your aircraft’s attitude. Just hoping there will be a software update which will sort the touch pad out and make it usable. Are the Bluetooth & App just for system setup?
I bought the Thrustmaster for my Series X before the game even came out. Used to use a Logitech joystick with Flight Sim X. If I got anything else it would probably be a yoke setup.
Oh yes ! When you fly with the controller on your knees, put a small flat cushion underneath, it will be more comfortable :-) . Question: When you put the turtle on your knees it does not move too much, since it is less heavy ?
Great review! this made me buy one. I already have a velocity one for my series x but i would love to expand the experience with a joystick for a more realistic experience on "non-yoke" planes. should I get a Flight Hotas X + pedals combo or stick with good old Turtlebeach quality and get the new Flightstick? any advise is appreciated. keep the hard work on the channel
Stay away from Thrustmaster T-Flight the build quality is terrible and i have no joke replaced mine 8 times in three years. This is also same issue with the other versions of the T-Flight for PS and just for the PC version all have same quality issue for medium 2>3 hours daily usage. IT will fail in 3 months
How would you say the feel of the Velocity One Flight Stick is compared to the hotas one? Honestly I kind of prefer the low amount of resistance on the hotas one so I'm kind of worried I won't like the feeling of this stick. Do you think I should just get a T.16000 stick instead? It's under half the price as well.
@@Huddison I just saw some review on the T.16000 and heard the yaw axis also fails on that easily. So probably not going with that. I think I'm mostly just wondering about the precision of this stick. Is the resistance higher when you start moving the stick or is it constant, as in you don't have to apply slightly more force to get the stick moving as opposed to reaching the maximum position of the axis? What I got from your video it feels premium and the resistance is good so I'm guessing that even though it has high resistance it still feels smooth to operate.
That's a difficult question to answer, as personal perception might come into play. To me, the resistance seems to ease as you push, pull and bank the stick through its axes (though only slightly). It most definitely feels smooth to operate no doubt. Looking at the TB website for the V1 FS, they have extended the returns window, so it might be worth trying it and seeing how it might (or might not) suit you.
@@Huddison Thanks for the response. All I know is I love all the buttons and features on it and the hat switches and trim wheel are far superior to the T.16000
@@RCmies Mine Thrustmaster TCA that’s the airbus version of the t16000 failed after two months. It’s a sensor that’s too close to a wire inside it and causes stick drift. I wouldn’t recommend that stick.
Which would be best for something like star wars squadrons, arcade shooters? Thing about arcade shooters is ill be throttling up and down a lot, will the Turtle Beach viscosity one be uncomfortable to play with with the little throttle lever?
I feel its s bit of a stretch calling the TB V1 Flight stick a HOTAS. Its not HOTAS in the true sense where you have you hand on the throttle and stick at the same time. For immersion factor, you need two separate units. The TM T.Flight HOTAS was and still is the entry point for flight sim peripherals. I got it when FS came to XB as it was all that was available at the time, and it was only ever going to be a place holder until one of the big boy HOTAS sets came to XB. Waiting for the Honeycomb Tango Foxtrot and Sigma Tau sets to get launch dates, as they will suit it much better. Can mount throttle on the left of my sim rig, and the stick on my right as I have with the T.Flight. Cannot do that with the Velocity Flight Stick, as I like I said, its not a HOTAS. Good looking bit of kit, and it will definitely sell well, just won't end up in my hands.
Starwars Squadrons? I've never tried the TCA Sidestick, but have heard good things about it. The V1 FS has a lot of 'on hands' buttons and controls that you can configure.
I've had the Thrustmasters Hotas one for 3 years and can say it's terrible for quality control! Actually i can say i've had 8 yes 8 of them due to returns and failures in each and every one. They last three months max under reasonable use, but it was the only option for Xbox players at the time. It got to be a joke with my wife as to how long it would be before i would need to return it. When it works ie brand new out of the box it's really great for Elite you can program all the commands in Elite Dangerous if you use modifiers. But i'm not joking when i say it only works for three months max then it wil develop ghost signals being sent from the flight controls not the buttons and no you can't use deadzones to eliminate it as the signals are fulldetent siganls that are being sent for fractions of a second so you can't deadzone the full input lol. Having spoken to a few PS players the Playstation version does the same and do a quick search you will find out that it is a very common problem that the T-Flight has. I have found out how to fix it but does involve taking it apart and putting the sensor through it's full range of movement a few times it makes it act like new, but the issue will return and in my experience it will return quicker and quicker each time until it just gets unuseable and definitely needs replaced. Pity at the time the T-Flight was the only option we had for XBox as a Hotas and we are finally getting a few options about to arrive. IMHO it's an easy choice Velocity one all the way simply cause it will probably last longer than 3 months!!!! Thrust master T-flight for XBox and PS is plagued with seriously bad quality control. Plenty info on the internet to back up my claim.
Like I said in your last video, I'm really happy with the Velocity One. I haven't used my Thrustmaster Warthog or even my pedals since I got it. I no longer need to use my keyboard since I've been button binding everything. I do still use my Logitech G600 that has 20 programmable buttons if I need extra keybinds and for toggling switches. Now I can put my feet up on an ottoman, with the flight stick on a lap table with my mouse on a table next to me.
Ditto my CH Products HOTAS and pedals have been retired I don't miss using the pedals at all as the Velocity One Flightstick twist rudder feels so good.
I had the Hotas on the PS4 and wasn't a fan due to the neutral notch (I actually opened it up and filed it down as it was causing my landing/take off issues in Elite) and the looseness on the thruster (that rubber band trick is smart). Since got an Xbox which has FS so I had to go back to controller for that. Eyed up the full yoke system for a while but couldn't justify the outlay, I'm tempted with the Velocity Flight stick as a midpoint, though it will be a shame to not have a proper yoke.
This flight stick seems to have a little problem: The hole where the stick connects to the base is round (most flights sticks are square). This can maybe impede the maximum range of movement to sides and up and down simultaneously.
No matter the topic, there is always time for Huddison oh by the way have you done a review for the Cessna 414 ?? would be good to see your opinion etc for it.
Hi. I have that too. But how do I assign the 2nd or 3rd level to a key? For example, the right button "A" also has "B1" and "B5" on it. How can I save something separately on "A", "B1", "B5"? When I press "A" in flight simulator, only "B5" is recognized.
Which flies smoother? I keep seeing people say the VelocityOne Flight Stick is "sticky" and is hard to make precise movements. I'd be interested in knowing what you think about that. It's the only thing that's really holding me back from buying at the moment. I have the HOTAS One and it flies fairly smooth. Unfortunately it's know for jitter issues that arise after months due to bad potentiometers. I was one of the many unlucky ones who had that happen. Otherwise, it's a smooth experience, and I'm wondering if the VelocityOne stick will be as smooth
I just bought the flight stick and it's a much needed improvement over using an Xbox controller paired with a Logitech 3d pro. However the stick is very stiff, and I often find myself having to use two hands to trim effectively. Anyone else having those issues?
I've a theory that the position of the hand rest may have some effect on this issue. I find that I can fly and trim one handed, with the hand rest in the highest bracket.
I have a very old Xbox (it came out the same year that PlayStation 4 was released), so it's easily 10 years old, can I use it to update the drivers of the Velocity One?
Not certain: you'll need the Velocity One App from the Xbox Store to update it, so it depends whether or not you can get that to work on your older Xbox.
The velocity is not an hotas, so the question is not relevant. Which joystick should we buy is the right question. 30% price difference to discuss is interesting but one of this is +10years old
I've both. The velocity one is quite a good quality build stick, at 110€. Some flaws but more than ok at its price. The hotas 4 is a piece of crap scandalously fragile and unprecise for a price of 80€. I do not recommand the thrusmaster.
Sadly turtle Beach is the only way to just for the hall effect sensor I own the t flight and wow sta away uses the old pot switches and will be used up quickly pure cheap junk and good luck replacing it and don't get me started on the twist just spend the little bit more and get the better sensor
is this a joke? of course it is Hotas One, who has a vast knowledge of videogames where the experience is better with joystick clearly Hotas One or Hotas X or whatever is much better for several reasons that I won't even waste my time explaining...

Thank you for this little comparative test.
Thanks for the added info.
Hall Effect sensors, to be exact. Yep, they're a huge step up, and quite possibly the best reason out of many to get the VelocityOne.
Yep I received mine yesterday! There is no need to procrastinate, these Hall Effect sensors are of a formidable efficiency 👍
I bought Thrustmaster Airbus TCA and I absolutelly loved It !! Fly safe !
I can not decide what to get, Velocity One Flightstick or TCA...
I have an inkling that TB have plans for that.
__--T--__
Imagine it like that, where the hyphen represent where the tape is double stacked.
Hi Huddison,
Thanks for the video - even if watching your videos can turn out to be an expensive experience for me!
I have used the T Flight HOTAS for many years - and have flown with many other pilots who also use this device on the XBox in Elite Dangerous - and can give the following feedback:
- The build quality is atrocious - most people using this device have had to either replace it (multiple times in some cases) or take it apart and clean contacts / re-solder connections which have come loose.
If you want to separate the throttle and stick more for a cockpit like seating position, then that will require cutting the connecting cable and then splicing in a connecting cable (there are 16 wires running between the 2 devices, which allows for the use of self splicing ethernet sockets and 2 ethernet cables if anyone is interested... something which I did to mine to allow it to be used in a more ergonomic position...)
- Ergonomics... be really careful with these if you suffer from RSI. All the surfaces are hard plastic, and I know many people who have experienced significant pain from repetitive use for longer periods gripping the handles. Again - probably not as severe an issue for FS as it is for ED, due to the more set and forget nature of most stages of a flight. This is probably something to be more careful with for Helicopter control, which is much more "hands on"
All in all, even at the relatively low price point which the HOTAS1 is available at... it does not feel great value. The Velocity One Yoke (which @Huddison told me I had to buy ;-) despite costing me over 4 times what I paid for the HOTAS1, feels much better value, if you can afford it. I cannot speak for the Velocity One Flight Stick - as I currently cannot justify buying in addition to the V1 Yoke when I already own the H1 - but I suspect it will be similar story there (I'll leave it to @Huddison's ongoing reports on that...)
I would not recommend anyone purchase the H1 for use in FS2020 unless that is literally all you can afford (and even then I would suggest you may be better waiting) due to the poor build quality, poor ergonomics, and frequent reliability issues which are encountered by the majority of serious users.
You do may some good points there, particularly about cables being captive.
Although I must add that I have owned my Hotas 4 for over five years and it still operates as though new. Granted, I don't use it daily (rarely at all nowadays), but for a low cost Hotas, it has served me well.
@@Huddison
I suppose that really is the long and short of it...
Phew thank you very much, ive just got an xbox, and msfs2020 I've played it on my dated pc and it doesn't play well, hence the xbox, it doesn't look as good but was looking at getting the Hotas 1 but you've changed my mind thank you I'll be getting the turtle beach now👍👍
Both are great controllers.
Huddison I have both systems. I no longer use the hotas one. I am left handed so it is a no Brainer. Add the trim wheel and the stick response and the flight stick wins going away. I highly recommend it.
I can imagine the V1 Flightstick is a left-hander's dream.
excellent review, just what I needed. I just bought the TB stick, looking forward. Thanks!
Wonderful; enjoy!
And? Happy? I can not decide what to get, this or TCA
@@Pretender_Gamer Yes, I recommend! Very high quality for the price, and feels immersive to me on MS Flight Simulator (although this is my first time using a flight stick and I am no pilot).
I have hotas 1 like 2 years and still the best for begginers! :)
My two Hotas units are still going strong ;)
Does it have hall censors?
@@pricelessppp If you are referring to the HOTAS1, not it does not.
It has cheap potentiometers, which are prone to clogging up and require cleaning periodically (or frequently if you are in an environment with a lot of dust / pet hair etc.) with poor quality solder connections which have a tendency to work loose in use.
@@danlance Are the T flight rudder pedals a good idea then? I like that they have a usb where you can switch to car mode making your sim pit simple.
Nice!
They claim to be making a trottle also to actually make it a HOTAS.
@@billpii6314 then I would buy it! Nice! Thanks!
Specially for combat sims
running into the same issue. How did you extend the cable?
V1 peripherals are certainly a step up.
another wonderful review!
Yes the ambidextrous design of the V1 FS is genius.
@@Huddison Just ordered these, soon on the Velocity One Rudder pedals!
Fair point Colin: I'm also an advocate of sticking with what you have., if it's good enough.
Congrats. it's a lot better then just using a KB for sure.
I had the older HOTAS system, now I have the T.1600M and TWCS throttle. The stick has been modified however..
You can send me a pic - in Discord (link in the description).
I had the same loose throttle issue with 2 Hotas Ones (returned one, second still had the issue.) I have a similar kludge set up to give more tension in it, but seeing this video I think it's time for the upgrade.
The V1 FS is leagues ahead Timothy.
My Hotas also had a loose throttle (the PS4 version), just poorly constructed I think
A recent follow up from "Robinovich" at the Flight Simulator Forum regarding losing Profiles on Xbox with 40th Ed. & VF1 Controller after V 1.4.0 firmware update:
Robinovich:
I have had the following response from Microsoft support:
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
The Hotas One is great for what it is, but the V1 Flightstick is a little bit more advanced.
if you are left handed just get the Velocity One Flightstick
Great comment: I must feature these in future videos.
I got my right lever top changed to arm spoilers... just like on the real airbus and boeing... works perfectly! Best stick ever
Also useful in DCS, idle off
I have two Hotas. One for my PC and One for my Xbox. That make it more seamless to switch between the two. But a trim wheel would would have been nice.
It certainly adds to the immersion factor.
I only wish the trim could be linked to centring so you could actually feel when the trim takes the weight off the stick.
That would be useful
Hi found this today sadly doesnt work on elite dangerous on xbox :( i have hotas one that works with ed and ms flight, buying to just play in ms flight and have to change to hotas one to play elite doesnt worth it :(
Well my hotas one kept disconnecting mid flight on xbox.. Fine on pc so tm wouldn't take back. So I sold it for the v1. Very happy with it!
OOps
Please keep us informed.
So I want a flight
stick that uses hall effect instead of potentiometers which wear down.
Maybe I rest it wrongly ;)
Thanks!
Wow many thanks Joe! 🤩
thanks for the info, I've got 2 in the mail for Star Citizen!
I do believe the Bluetooth app will just be for the FMD utilities on the V1 Flightstick.
I bought the Thrustmaster for my Series X before the game even came out. Used to use a Logitech joystick with Flight Sim X. If I got anything else it would probably be a yoke setup.
The Hotas One is still a very viable option.
Will the V1 flightstick work with War Thunder on Xbox Series X?
It should do
Oh yes ! When you fly with the controller on your knees, put a small flat cushion underneath, it will be more comfortable :-) . Question: When you put the turtle on your knees it does not move too much, since it is less heavy ?
I tend to hold the base of the FS with my left hand, unless I'm using the throttle etc.
Thanks. It really depends what you are most tempted by; I can advise that the V1 Flightstick is fantastic.
Go with your gut, not on majority persuasion.
I would preference the Hotas One for that type of game.
Thank you so much for imput, I appreciate it very much 👍
I feel its s bit of a stretch calling the TB V1 Flight stick a HOTAS.
My turtle beach v1 stick stopped working just 3 months after buying it. Completely dead on the right side so I'll be sending it back on Monday
Oh no :(
Hi, for Xbox squadrons better is Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick X Airbus Edition or VelocityOne ? Or something else ?
Now there's a high commendation! )
Ditto my CH Products HOTAS and pedals have been retired I don't miss using the pedals at all as the Velocity One Flightstick twist rudder feels so good.
No affiliate link for the V1 stick? I’d prefer seeing you get credit.
I can't find them on Amazon - but thanks my friend :)
The V1 Flightstick will see you good for long time.
@@Huddison Watched a couple more of your videos on the stick as well as some reading and some gliding in MSFS yday, just pulled the trigger.
@@andrew2272kag wonderful.
This flight stick seems to have a little problem: The hole where the stick connects to the base is round (most flights sticks are square). This can maybe impede the maximum range of movement to sides and up and down simultaneously.
I've not encountered issues with mine.
Are the button assignment settings saved in flightsimulator? After a reboot?
Hotas One assignments have been saving for some time. On Xbox, the V1 FS profiles save for some but not for all - it'll be more an Asobo issue.
The Turtle Beach should have had a tension setting on the stick. I don't like a stiff stick.
Yes, opinions are going to differ, depending on taste.

Thanks Mike. No review as of yet, I will have to take a look.
I really wanna learn MSFS so here I am shopping for which flightstick to get lmao
Either the Hotas One or V1 flightstick are great choices
What about combat flight sims you think the hotas would be better?
I was using the V1 Flightstick with DCS World last night and it performed well. I'll likely do a video using it with combat sims.
Sold me on TB with thay trim wheel!
I choose Virpil Moongoos T50 CM3
I wish TB had to put those throttle/flap levers on the other side(closest to the pilot). I haven't bought one yet because of this.
Because of its small form factor, it works quite well where they are.
Just tried this and sent it back. It was working in reverse. Couldn’t fix it
Shame I recently put a video up about that subject.
The TB should be compared to the TM T16000 to be fair. They both are close in price but one is a stick while the other is a HOTAS.
How is the Velocity One Yoke on driving games?
That I've never tried.
Which HOTAS? VKB or VIRPIL
Hi. I have that too. But how do I assign the 2nd or 3rd level to a key? For example, the right button "A" also has "B1" and "B5" on it. How can I save something separately on "A", "B1", "B5"? When I press "A" in flight simulator, only "B5" is recognized.
Can you elaborate a little; or even join the Discord to share your setup.
Does Turtle Beach flightstick work in War Thunder? Maybe you have an answer
The V1 Flight Yoke can be sticky when you first get it, not the Flightstick - it's very smooth and precise.
I play from my couch and I prefer the extension. Where could I get it?

Have you used the Velocity One on War Thunder on Xbox? Is it compatible?
I'll aim to create a future video, re trying different games/sims using the V1 FS
@@Huddison thx for the response. I tweaked the hand test position a few times when setting it up yesterday. I'll try to tweak it again later today
The TB Flight Stick in the Website on Black Friday % and 10% discount 80€.
Great deal
Does the velocity one have vibrations?
It doesn't.
The velocity is not an hotas, so the question is not relevant. Which joystick should we buy is the right question. 30% price difference to discuss is interesting but one of this is +10years old
That's one way of putting it.
Can u use top menu when in flight using the velocity one or do you need use xbox controller
You can use the cursor function on the V1 Flightstick to do that - I normally have a mouse setup for it.
@@Huddison Thank you I'm on xbox. Got velocity stick ordered for tomorrow.
Another thing u should mention is hotas one potentiometer will fail massive stick drift after about a month use check my vids for a fix
If you don’t buy quality you end up upgrading sooner. Sometimes cheaper is false economy
I've both. The velocity one is quite a good quality build stick, at 110€. Some flaws but more than ok at its price. The hotas 4 is a piece of crap scandalously fragile and unprecise for a price of 80€. I do not recommand the thrusmaster.
Thrustmaster was good when there was nothing else available for Xbox MSFS - I still like to use it from time to time.
Sadly turtle Beach is the only way to just for the hall effect sensor
I own the t flight and wow sta away uses the old pot switches and will be used up quickly pure cheap junk and good luck replacing it and don't get me started on the twist just spend the little bit more and get the better sensor
Neither, Thrustmaster T16000 with TWCS thruster!
is this a joke?
of course it is Hotas One, who has a vast knowledge of videogames where the experience is better with joystick clearly Hotas One or Hotas X or whatever is much better for several reasons that I won't even waste my time explaining...

What’s your opinion on Asobo making us wait until mid January for the LOD fix. They said they found bug they fixed it, but we have to wait? It looks like rubbish on the series s. I’m so disappointed because I’m a new player and just got a flight stick and everything.
Ouch that's not a great first experience for you :( I really feel they should address these things asap; but similar story throughout the MSFS saga unfortunately.
@@Huddison ahh, something I’ll have to get used to I suppose.
I highly recommend getting the beta because it like 75% fixes the problem. Plus you get a new and updated Longitude, TBM930 and CJ4 🎉
You sound old enough to know that it's "bone" of contention, not bane...
Уменя такоце джостик толька блин и рычак без ручки газа
I've both. The velocity one is quite a good quality build stick, at 110€. Some flaws but more than ok at its price. The hotas 4 is a piece of crap scandalously fragile and unprecise for a price of 80€. I do not recommand the thrusmaster.
