Dave Weber Luckily? Are you serious? You realise the US is the only country that's not agreeing to cut it's pollution....Even China agreed to it. Our administration this term is a joke but too many American's are to stubborn to want to change because of personal preference (like this with the V6 vs the V8, even though the V6 is better in every way) or because it requires some effort on their part but are lazy.
Seraphim Valkyrin You couldn't resist curbing your political dogma to put in your 2 cents on a truck page on TH-cam could you? The heavy regulations on emissions for car companies are being rolled back so that's great news for the market. It means the people who want a V8 Ecoboost will have a greater chance of seeing it. And let's face it, people who will buy it could care less about emissions and mpg.
I want to really see you take the heavy duties up there with the Diesel engines. Tons of torque at low rpm. See how well the heavier trucks with their off road packages do.hope to really see that one day even if it's the 250 platforms
Power Wagon would probably do it ... if it can make it around the razor bend, it might be too long for that section. A base model Wrangler had little issue with CH 2.0.
Nice. Hope us could post a vid next time. Still these new heavy duties say they are off road worthy as they are with out a lift, so would be great to see if and how worthy they really are when it comes to some off reading as opposed to how much they can haul or pull.
That is such an awesome area to explore. Can't wait to retire and come do exploring all around there and other western states. Did some skiing there and Utah many years ago and its so beautiful out there. But never been in summer months to do stuff like Moab and stuff. Found that trail and see many others. Hope people take care of them. Those Switzerland trails are huge. Vey Cool.
The Fast Lane Truck thank you guys for posting these videos not only here but on TFLcar and TFLnow I watch all three channels and I am a pretty big fan
Hi guys, love your videos and the Tatra badge at the back of Blue Beard. I am living 50 miles from where these offroad Kings are made (well actually Queens, because Tatra is she in Czech language). So greetings from Czech Republic and keep making these awesome videos, you rock!
Great video on two fantastic trucks. Great comment at the end about driver and a friend. Maybe a video on spotter responsibilities would be good. To start with I think the call is "Driver" not "Right".
I love my 2018 raptor, love the ecoboost v6. Does everything i need it to do. Only haul my yamaha viking for hunting and it does just fine. Never been stuck in the fields once. Been in some shit in wet corn fields moving a muddy box blind and still made it in & out. I am running toyo open country MT tires tho
Always love your videos guys. As a long time subscriber with a professional monitor, it looks like the color saturation and white balance was a bit off on this video. Most of the time it is fine. Keep on trucking Roman, you can't go wrong with either one that is for sure!
I like the way the gen 2 looks better than gen 1. But I'd sacrifice that for the 6.2 V8. That being said I adore my Chevy Silverado with the 6.2 V8 so I'll just stick with that.
The Torsen is NOT a locking diff. It is a limted slip, and the names are exactly right. A locker locks in BOTH wheels to get maximum traction. A limited slip does limit the slip by braking the wheel that is spinning in a low traction situation in the hopes that the other wheel will start spinning and gain some traction. That actually is fairly effective, but not as much as a true locker. You know that both tires are digging with a locker.
TFL folks, please make your life easier and buy a proper tire deflator. Saves so much time and you are sure to hit the mark you want in no time. I’d also be interested seeing such comparisons without lockers engaged. I am always wondering why you guys engage lockers almost by default. I hardly need to use the lockers in my JK and would have gone up Cliffhanger without them too. Also, there is less stress on your drivetrain, what is important to me long term. In an old truck with no traction control at all, that’s a different story of course. I’d take the old Raptor anytime and would not care about the lack in performance. The V8 rumble and a less complicated engine is enough reason for me. But I understand everyone who prefers the newer model for added performance and improved suspension. Thanks TFL for all your hard work!
+mauiman52 thanks. We have a deflated, but we were deflating three vehicles at the same time. A locker helps on a steep incline going up with not much side slope. You are right, a locker can make you 4x4 slide sideways on a side slope.
josh nalepa anyone that has driven one doesn't care. I rather like it in mine. Did get a bit of V8 envy hearing the Gen 1s roar at TRR, but my truck was significantly more capable
Wouldve been betterif the cameras focused on the harder sections in full vehicle and obstacle view to compare how they handle them to compare differences
Do you know what Raptors are good for? Convincing people that they need a $70,000 truck to go off road. And by off road I mean a dirt road that happens to have a basketball sized rock in the middle of a puddle that's a foot deep.
CRQ5508 Gotta hand it to the marketing dept for creating that desire to purchase these. I've never seen a Raptor outside of the suburbs, let alone on a gravel road.
You know what Roman? I have a 2012 Raptor, short one though, and I thought when they announced the new one I'd rush over to Ford to get the new one, with the 10 speed, massive torque, better suspension. And today, I still can't do it. I've gotten attached to it much more so than any other vehicle I've owned.
Man what a view up there. Always see going up. So out of curiosity, I guess you take a different way down. If you go back down same way. Does someone at bottom warn someone. Doesn't look like much two lane movement. At least what we see.
I would love to see both trucks scaled to see what the real world difference in weight is. I bet its not going to be a big difference. What do you think TFL
I think you should do a video where old-blue gets modified to match the 450HP in the V6 and show if there is (car and driver slang) any replacement for displacement.
I like the gen 1. No need to be the fastest. I like the looks, it has the great body lines but not over exaggerated like the new one. Insane that they are still selling for so high
I really hope that person in the UTV at 12:03 is on a designated trail. Otherwise, they're part of the problem with all the trails around here being closed.
Wow... seemed so easy to put it in D to shift it into “crawl mode”. Or is that cause I don’t have an extra 30k for a “decent” truck. Or maybe it’s also because I prefer manual T Cases where I physically put it into whatever 2 to 4 high low configuration I want. Not to mention the fact I can lock or unlock the front hubs to “whip” around objects. And I forgot to mention. This is a 1993 Ram W250 which makes both these trucks look bitchmade.
Honestly, I unintentionally did a similar trail with my 14' Silverado LTZ Z71 when I went on an A to B jeep trail without doing enough research. Handled it just fine minus the clear coat damage from the width of the trail lol. Not saying my silverado is comparable to a raptor. Just saying this stuff is too easy haha
I'm only 6 minutes into the video and I know I'd take the new Ecoboost V6 over the older V8 in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I can't afford it so it doesn't really matter.
Power wagon is dodge off road one and would for sure out perform fords fx4 or chevy z71 but can they do it? Do u need a light duty platform, do u need 2 did trucks to pull and go off road? I'm not talking like the raptor where your racing but if u need to get to some places could they really do it or not so well do to size and weight? The good things ya know
Man, the new raptor is beautiful but the old one has a v8. This is my favorite truck but ford put a v8 in them again! I will pay for it as well as many others. Make the raptor great again!
Its evolution not downgrading. All vehicles had v8 big blocks in the 60's that sounded just incredible. Then the "future" came along and brought more economical vehicles that didnt sound as good. And now we have the ecoboost engine that doesnt have a V8, but its got more horsepower, has more torque, is more economical, its more efficient, it lasts longer, and its cheaper to make. Evolution is never popular.
darkjedi351 lol icon kits get used and abused there no Rough Country bull s***. I'm about to get icon stage 4 from a Tacoma about to go mob in the desert with it
i have always wondered why even in the newest trucks they still have antenna rods do you know why is that so why don't they go for a more sleeker almost shark fin design
AM and FM radio cannot be received very well on short antennae. The frequencies for the Satellite radio have a much shorter wavelength and therefore will be picked up very well with the mini antennae. The length of an antenna is directly related to the frequency sending or receiving. For example a CB radio is considered the 10 meter band(27mhz). This means that one cycle of transmission is going to travel 10 meters away from the antenna before the second cycle starts (or each cycle will travel 10 meters before the next cycle) So your typical 108" CB antenna is actually 1/4 of the wavelength so it is considered a 1/4 wave. Satellite radio uses 2.3Ghz which has a wavelength of around 14cm, so a 1/4 wavelength antenna only needs to be around 3.5 or so cm long. A 1/4 wave FM antenna is around 20 inches or so. Also to note that 1/4 wave antenna seem to have good reception qualities with very little loss compared to smaller sized antennae.
I just looked at Ford.ca and did a 'build' to see what it was worth up here in Canada. It starts at $70,000. Yikes! For kicks and giggles I added a 'few' LOL options and the price shot up to $85,000, and I wasn't even done.
I tend to think expectations should match sticker price with some of these tests. And since you can't just create ideal new roads maybe you should figure a standard way to handicap these rather than just expecting apples to be able to compete with old apples, huh? Just a thought 💭 but if my $63000. Pickup didn't go up that little trail, I'd be giving it the "here after" story.. 😜 thanks Guys Bob/Okc
Could you swap the V6 twin turbo for the 6.2L V8 in the 2017 Raptor? If so, another question. Could I add twin turbos to the swapped V8 or is it better to add a supercharger instead? If I go with the supercharger option, it's probably better to just swap for the Shelby Raptor engine, no? That V8 sounds amazing.
Long time overdue but you're better off just getting a Whipple for the 6.2. As time has gone on the 3.5 Ecoboost has a lot of issues from cam phasers to fuel system failure. The 6.2 has and continues to be a proven workhorse. Also, consider that engine swaps for new vehicles aren't even remotely easy anymore. You're looking at 25,000 for just the engine.
Apple to apple comparison. That makes sense. I told you a year ago. But you laughed at me. Now I 'm relaxing and have a smile on my face. I love the sound of a v8 as much as most people do but the evolution is going to e-cars. Get used to hear nothing in the future. The downsizig is just a step. Btw.good vid.
I own a 1st gen....love this truck....i plan on replacing my 1st gen for any available gen once my truck reaches it end of enjoyment from too many miles or worse(190k miles)
I used to hate Andre because he's a furriner and he talks funny, but now after watching a bunch of TFL videos I don't hate him so much anymore. I guess he's pretty cool
I'm glad it's you two doing this vid. That hick guy with the little hat always seems like he's about to blow a fuse on someone. Makes it hard to watch with him.
The Raptor wins.
+Paul Montero yes, that's soooooo totally true! ;-)
The Fast Lane Truck Thank you Roman and Andre and the rest of the TFL crew! I love your videos. Keep up the good work!
Paul Montero the 2017
Paul Montero bet my first gen Tacoma will beat both these raptors off road
guy proulx ummm, not even close.
The designers hit a home run with the first gen Raptors and smashed it out of the park with gen 2.
Sticking with my 6.2 for now. I love the new ones, but he V8 is for us old-timers.
I still can't understand why ford can't make a ecoboost V8 and have best of both worlds.
keepitmoving luckily those steep regulation demands have been rolled back with the new administration
Karnage543 they will be for the gt500. it'll be interesting to see if they do for the truck again. itd be expensive though
Dave Weber Luckily? Are you serious? You realise the US is the only country that's not agreeing to cut it's pollution....Even China agreed to it. Seraphim Valkyrin V6 is better in every way? no replacement for displacement
Both those trucks are at the top of the food chain.
Patrick OHarold yea the wagon is hideous and the Chevy reaper.. I'm not even gonna say nothing lol
I want to really see you take the heavy duties up there with the Diesel engines. Tons of torque at low rpm. See how well the heavier trucks with their off road packages do.hope to really see that one day even if it's the 250 platforms
Mike Tacey I have a lifted F350 with the 7.3L. beats you to death, but does great. I may install sulastic shackles and see if it helps.
Wish they could just put the 6.2L V8 in the 2018/2017 Raptor.
5.0 would be better
No, i have one with the ecoboost and it does just fine
G63 engine?
I agree with the 6.2L V8 option.
Ty Murphy but that v6 is from the Ford gt belive it for not
call me Old Fashioned but i prefer the old Manual Transfercase and lockouts
Perry2186 Agree. Love my manual transmission, manual transfer case, manual locking hubs. Reliability.
Ohhh man I love Andre! Glad he's in a lot of episodes!
That is such an awesome area to explore. Can't wait to retire and come do exploring all around there and other western states. Love your channels. Keep up that entertaining work. I can´t wait for my new Raptor late this year- early next year, here in Europe....
Love the cliffhanger trail videos. It really shows the truck's off-road capabilities. Nice work guys!
+Yeah Baby Racing Thanks!
guy proulx clearly not he's been saying that 2 everyone
Clearly Brady is an idiot
guy proulx 😂😂
Awesome video keep up the good work. I've been a subscriber since January 2014
+James Kelsey thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching so long
The Fast Lane Truck thank you guys for posting these videos not only here but on TFLcar and TFLnow I watch all three channels and I am a pretty big fan
BradyTooSaucy No. Not even close
BradyTooSaucy don't be an internet tough guy bro. It makes you look like a douche.....
Hi guys, love your videos and the Tatra badge at the back of Blue Beard. I am living 50 miles from where these offroad Kings are made (well actually Queens, because Tatra is she in Czech language). So greetings from Czech Republic and keep making these awesome videos, you rock!
V8 and trucks go together like a cold beer on a Friday night
I don't care for Ford, but DAMN that red Raptor is gorgeous.
Such a sweet aerial shot towards the end. Great camera work and production yet again. 😎
+Aaron Stokes Thank you!
Great video on two fantastic trucks. Great comment at the end about driver and a friend. Maybe a video on spotter responsibilities would be good. To start with I think the call is "Driver" not "Right".

Coming from a person who owns both a 2013 and 2018 I gotta say the 2018 is by far the way nicer and more comfortable and more powerful truck
Jonny Razor great! My order for my 2019 ford raptor just went through today!!
Joe Momma hell yea bro you’re gonna love it👌🏻👌🏻
Joe Momma congrats👌🏻🔥
Jonny Razor thanks bro!! I can’t wait!!!
I have a 2018 Raptor and still have to take it back in to have an issue with the seatbelts “potentially” catching on fire taken care of, lol
That red color is so badass. I love it
Always love your videos guys. As a long time subscriber with a professional monitor, it looks like the color saturation and white balance was a bit off on this video. Most of the time it is fine. Keep on trucking Roman, you can't go wrong with either one that is for sure!
The EcoBoost is pretty sick. I love mine
I like the way the gen 2 looks better than gen 1. But I'd sacrifice that for the 6.2 V8. That being said I adore my Chevy Silverado with the 6.2 V8 so I'll just stick with that.
Same! I have a Sierra with the 6.2!
Chevy for the win! though, can you go off-road with your Silverado?
@@Alviniscute Of course you can.
I bought a 2014 instead of the 2017. No matter how much plumbing you put on the v6 it will never be a v8.
It seems that both of these trucks handled the trail much easier than either Jeep in the Rubicon/Sport comparison video.
airing down also softens the ride a bit
I totally agree with roman. I'd keep the old raptor if I were him just because of the V8. Ford certainty screwed up the new raptor with a twin turbo
Wrong explanation of how a torsen differential works.
When you're spotting off road it's
not right or left its Passenger side or driver-side
+J.G. Conumdrum Yes, but Andre can read Roman's mind, so no need. :)
I would have to admit this is a DIFFICULT trail but the view at the TOP is FAB!!!!! :)
Love blue beard. Love that v8 raptor. Also just looks meaner then the new raptor. Oh ya and sounds meaner. 👍🏻
I would love to see a video of the ZR2 taking the cliffhanger. When can we expect to see that happen?
+Pete Woelke Hopefully in about a month.
Man Andre is a class act
Great cinematography in that video.
This is a very well made video.
TFL folks, please make your life easier and buy a proper tire deflator. Saves so much time and you are sure to hit the mark you want in no time. the old one is better because of that beautiful 6.2l v8
titanium turbo 3.5 is a monster of a motor
titanium turbo now if you dropped the 4.0L V8 twin turbo in it that Audi uses in the S8........
I find it cute all the v6 turbo lovers. Put the same turbo setup on the 6.2 and go pound sand.. NO replacement for displacement.
i love that red on the new raptor. i feel like im the only one who likes/doesnt mind the v6 in the new raptor/sound(not saying its better tho) lol
josh nalepa anyone that has driven one doesn't care. I rather like it in mine. Did get a bit of V8 envy hearing the Gen 1s roar at TRR, but my truck was significantly more capable
I am the same I love the v8 but the fact that the v6 gives more hp and tq sells me on it.
why are they rock crawling Baja trucks, i thought these trucks were built for high speed whoops etc.??
Curt Kautsch this trail is fit for trucks with the likes of the ram power wagon not the raptor
The Raptor will go anywhere any other truck its size will go.
Wouldve been betterif the cameras focused on the harder sections in full vehicle and obstacle view to compare how they handle them to compare differences
Love this channel
Do you know what Raptors are good for? Convincing people that they need a $70,000 truck to go off road. And by off road I mean a dirt road that happens to have a basketball sized rock in the middle of a puddle that's a foot deep.
CRQ5508 Gotta hand it to the marketing dept for creating that desire to purchase these. I've never seen a Raptor outside of the suburbs, let alone on a gravel road.
Anyone know what rating and size are the raptor bfg KO2 tires?
Hey guys so I have a suggestion. how about you take any off road truck or suv and do an uphill battle on a wet grass and see how the 4wd systems work!
Andre is getting much more profesional and his english is so perfect..!!!
G. W Cook i have a 2014 and I can't get enough of it. I wanna constantly drive it
BradyTooSaucy ur not funny.
Just have both 🙃
Man what a view up there. Always see going up. So out of curiosity, I guess you take a different way down. If you go back down same way. Does someone at bottom warn someone. Doesn't look like much two lane movement. At least what we see.
BradyTooSaucy dude, really?
Maybe you should tell the exact weight of them since you mentioned the upgraded military aluminum no matter the difference
Doesn't matte, Chevy is still lighter.
I would love to see both trucks scaled to see what the real world difference in weight is. I bet its not going to be a big difference. What do you think TFL
I think you should do a video where old-blue gets modified to match the 450HP in the V6 and show if there is (car and driver slang) any replacement for displacement.
There is replacement for displacement it's called turbos!
Now this is a good comparison....makes up for the Tahoe vs. SRT Durango (towing a boat) video.
billy mc That video was awesome!
Cool comparison. Thanks guys.
What do you guys do when you scrape the dealer trucks on this video? Do you have to pay for any damage?
I like the gen 1. No need to be the fastest. I like the looks, it has the great body lines but not over exaggerated like the new one. Insane that they are still selling for so high
I really hope that person in the UTV at 12:03 is on a designated trail. Otherwise, they're part of the problem with all the trails around here being closed.
Benton Hart Yes there is a bypass trail around the razor bend.
Wow... seemed so easy to put it in D to shift it into “crawl mode”. Or is that cause I don’t have an extra 30k for a “decent” truck. 63k? In Cali they have 20-30 thousand dollars tacked on to the price "market price". I couldn't get into one for less that like 90k. So I kept my FX4.
Lots of mention of the new trucks torque, but Are high levels of torque available while rock crawling? What about turbo lag?
hi witch one is better for sand the old raptor or the new one and also what is better a winch or a strap
The old one better in sand
Nice Pioneer, you should showcase that!
+Donnie Ragland Tomorrow on our car channel the Pioneer takes on the Wrangler. Please subscribe if you want to get a notification. www.tflcar.com
Damn I wish I had the money to buy a Raptor. They are perfect factory trucks for being a daily driver and off roader when you want it/need it.
i noticed the black plastic piece between the hood and windshield is cracked on the new Raptor
Honestly, I unintentionally did a similar trail with my 14' Silverado LTZ Z71 when I went on an A to B jeep trail without doing enough research. Handled it just fine minus the clear coat damage from the width of the trail lol. Not saying my silverado is comparable to a raptor. Just saying this stuff is too easy haha
still waiting on the FX4 Z71 and Tundra TRD on cliffhanger
Don't forget the Pro-4x. I want to see them all.
Daniel Bell they have done the pro 4x and it made it all the way to the top!
Not at the same time they didn't.
Definitely need to do more on the Tundra TRD Pro.
I'm only 6 minutes into the video and I know I'd take the new Ecoboost V6 over the older V8 in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I can't afford it so it doesn't really matter.
yes! that red paint and the nice body curves really have me sold!
Supercharger - Powers there on the spot... 6.2L for me
I like the crew. They compliment each other, but I'm sure Roman is a challenge to work for.
great video! you finally convinced me to become a patreon
+Aaron Cupp Thank you for the support!
The good things ya know
Mike Tacey but they are unreliable trucks and my 1st Gen Toyota Tacoma would destroy the Z71 the Raptor and the Dodges
Just because it’s a Toyota it’s the only reliable vechicle
* not
What kind of gas should you use in a GEN 1 Raptor? What kind of gas should I put in my 2018 Raptor? I get so many different answers. Thanks
I thought the older version has a off road button next to the shifter?
Would love to see the new Colorado ZR2 do this. I suspect it could probably do Dare without much trouble.
Really good video, both trucks made it look easy. Good driving guys.
9:43 raptor or roman fart?
Awesome, thanks guys!
10 years from now which version will still be on the road.
My bet the 6.2 V8 will be. The Turbo V6 will only be if it has a replacement engine in it.
6.2 has a 350,000 mile+ life in the f 250 it’s hardly taxed in the raptor
@@swatbwana
In heavy fleet use they are going over 500,000 miles

hey Roman upgrade your Raptor with the icon coilover kit and some better rims
darkjedi351 lol icon kits get used and abused there no Rough Country bull s***. I'm about to get icon stage 4 from a Tacoma about to go mob in the desert with it
Anyone else here that off roads think this trail looks easy as hell? And they make it seem harder than it is
Hey guys, the pedal commander or the Diablo pcm kit is legit?
Have yall tested the toyota tundra TRD pro of the cliffhanger 2.0 yet?
another ext cab. still trying to get a full sized to run up the ike?
Where in Colorado are they?
wicked video I love this channel keep it up guys I wish I had money to donate
i have always wondered why even in the newest trucks they still have antenna rods do you know why is that so why don't they go for a more sleeker almost shark fin design
Tyler Shoban So you can pick up radio stations around the globe. :)
because they work better!
Ford uses them as a height marker, for if you park in a garage. Lets you know when you're close to hitting the roof.
I have a 6.2 and drove a v6, rather the old raptor any day
Just got a 13 Raptor I know I made the right choice
Raptors are designed for desert high speed off road not mountain trails
Garrett Williamson yes but this is to prove it is capable of much more.
I just looked at Ford.ca and did a 'build' to see what it was worth up here in Canada. It starts at $70,000. Yikes! For kicks and giggles I added a 'few' LOL options and the price shot up to $85,000, and I wasn't even done.
we love what you guys are doing keep it up
I tend to think expectations should match sticker price with some of these tests. And since you can't just create ideal new roads maybe you should figure a standard way to handicap these rather than just expecting apples to be able to compete with old apples, huh? Just a thought 💭 but if my $63000. Pickup didn't go up that little trail, I'd be giving it the "here after" story.. 😜 thanks Guys

Where is the Colorado zr2 up cliffhanger 2.0??
+helseth96 we hope to get it done within the next month.
Put the old engine in the new body. Get the V8 sound track and torque band and the rust resistance of the new body with all the new tech as well
Apple to apple comparison. That makes sense. I told you a year ago. But you laughed at me. Now I 'm relaxing and have a smile on my face.
I love the sound of a v8 as much as most people do but the evolution is going to e-cars. Get used to hear nothing in the future.
The downsizig is just a step.
Btw.good vid.
the new raptor sounds like a toilet flushing!!
Right
U smart breh
I own a 1st gen....love this truck....i plan on replacing my 1st gen for any available gen once my truck reaches it end of enjoyment from too many miles or worse(190k miles)
I used to hate Andre because he's a furriner and he talks funny, but now after watching a bunch of TFL videos I don't hate him so much anymore. I guess he's pretty cool
I'm glad it's you two doing this vid. That hick guy with the little hat always seems like he's about to blow a fuse on someone. Makes it hard to watch with him.
Everybody gets hung up on the new engine that they don't realize all the improvements to the new Raptor as a whole
you should get old blue beard the supercharged roush package and then compare it too the new raptor.
