    Not a fair comparison. A new truck vs an old beater that has not been maintained. A good comparison would have been the new pickup vs a properly maintained old truck.

I'm pretty sure even "1970s technology" came with well-made battery hold-down brackets (sturdy bolts!)...and although those engines did not make the horsepower OR fuel economy numbers the new stuff does, with properly tuned carb, that truck should've started easily, and practically IDLED to the top of that hill with all 4 wheels spinning in 4 LOW... If you don't know how to work on an older carb'ed engine, find someone who does, and try again, please... Looked like a good job driving though, but you were dealing with a poorly running engine, Tommy! (BTW - even with the rust, the old truck has appeal to me over the new one!)

    My '73 E300 has nearly 600,000 miles on it, bought it new, and maintained by me. 302v8, little c4 tranny that I rebuilt myself, married to a cast iron Dana 20, married to a Gearvender overdrive on an adapter that I built myself. Warn winch and massive bumper with a trailer hitch on the front, disk brakes and 4:11 gears, manual locking hubs. Oh yeah, it's a van, so I camp in it too. I've replaced the solenoids and electric shift motors on many Ford pickups and SUVs, and would never own one myself. BTW... Friends don't let friends drive Cheys.

    watching this kind of confirms something I've been thinking for awhile. cars from the 90s are the best. Seems after 2000 the technology got out of control.
    90s you had fuel injection, solid axles, ac, and not having to get out to lock the hubs.
    newer stuff, to many parts to break, solid axles seem to have disappeared.

      If you want a solid front axle, all you need to do is go drop 40k on a 3/4 ton Dodge or Ford. Both have solid front axles and coil springs. Or just go get a Jeep Wrangler.

    • @footbalr074
      @footbalr074 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      "V8 engines will provide more torque" except not really
      3.5 v6 makes much more torque (at lower rpm's) than its 5.0 counterpart, even the 6.2 they put in that gen of raptors
      the 300 i6 that served along side the 302 v8 for years again provided more torque at lower rpm's
      with that said those old fe engines where monsters for the time and great motors
      I have nothing against v8's or old trucks but lets stop with these autistic "i like muh v8's for the torque and powah" arguments

    • @tomsfruitstand6821
      @tomsfruitstand6821 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      footbalr074 many things go into torque and horsepower. Stroke, bore, etc. the 300 was just a l6 but had a fairly long stroke. The 5.0 was a v8 but had a larger bore and shorter stroke, so it could rev higher and make more horsepower but not as much torque.

      Chris Adkins. oh wow someone doesnt know there history lol. they took those 360's and put them in javalins to race on the tracks because of how fast they were. ford had no idea at first. so then they took them out started dumping 390's in the later model trucks. and btw an M? everyone knows the 351 is best with a W behind it, NOT a C or .....M......lol.well now your sorta up to speed. all thats left is bringing what you got and a pink slip and lets hookem up. 75' custom 250 highboy. all origional. @@chrisadkins602 um 351m motors are gutless boat anchors. Trust me I've owned 3 of them. The 400m motors were a little better but if you want a real motor, hook up a 460. They bolt right up to the 351/400m bellhousing.

    First off, Tommy needs a little more time off road, two, get Tommy some money to scrap the carb on that motor. I have a 74 F-100 with a 390 and the factory carb and it starts so much better than that. I put a Pertonix ignition in it, took out the points and went with a better distributor. Pump the gas a couple times and she fires up almost immediately. His should be doing the same. Get a different box and some engine mods and that 74 will wipe the floor with the Raptor and you'll be doing it for so much less money.
