I've never owned a truck or were even remotely interested in owning a truck, until I seen the first gen Raptor. The capabilities really sold me on the first Raptor. Love driving fast and have always loved things that go fast. Never in my life did I ever consider going fast off-road. My '14 Raptor changed all that. Sold the '14 and purchased the '17 back in Feb. Second generation is a improvement in every single catergory except the sound but that's expected going from a burly V8 to a V6. I was hesitant going into the second gen because of it. However, once you get in the second gen and romp on the throttle, that V8 throatiness becomes a afterthought. Never been a size queen as I grew up with 4 cylinders back in the '90s. Always respected engines that were super efficient with creation of power (i.e. low displacement high hp). I know most superficial people rag on the new Raptor because of the lack of a V8. No idea how you can complain when the power output puts the V8 to shame WHILE getting much better gas mileage. Yeah, I went from averaging 12 mpg to 16.5 mpg in the new one and I don't pussy foot around my daily commute. To clear things up a bit, the video made it seem like the 2nd gen isn't that much faster in acceleration than the 1st gen. Completely false. 2nd is noticeably faster than the 1st. 1st gen Raptor was far from quick and as a matter of fact that was my biggest complaint coming from sports cars and sportbikes. I wasn't delusional enough to think a truck weighing over 6K lbs would be fast, but get in the 2nd gen and romp on it. It is a very quick truck.
King Kwon thank you! You get it! It was so annoying listening to him bitch about sound...SOUND! The v6 may not have sound but it is the FAR superior engine in every other way! The 2nd gen Raptor is the better truck period! And to the oil pan, yes they leak it’s a know common problem but u can either get ford to reseal the bolt (takes a couple days), or u can swap it out for a metal one.
If im not mistaken, that V6 turbocharged EcoBoost they use in the Raptor is the same engine they put in the Ford GT supercar ofcourse they use a totally different transmission for the GT but i would expect the Raptor to be really quick using the same engine as the GT.
I disagree, sold my 2014 V8 for a 2019 v6 and it was a terrible decision. Less low end torque, bad sound, crappy turbo feel, cheaper doors, etc. 2014 raptor is the best vehicle Ford ever made. I’d gladly trade back to my old one, but it’s long gone now. They either give us a solid V8 for next gen or I’m done buying Ford. With the Rivian r1t and the Cybertruck around the corner there is no reason to put up with a crappy boosted v6.
Be grateful you don’t get the pitiful excuse for a Raptor that is offered in Australia. What a joke with its “Ford Performance” insignia emblazoned on the rocker panel. It has an asthmatic 2.0 twin turbo 4cyl diesel that would be lucky to pull the skin off custard.
One thing I would note that this pickup is good for, riding on rough roads in Illinois and Michigan. I rode in one 6 months ago to go to the casinos in Detroit. The roads down there are in garbage condition in this truck just soaks up the bumps so well. The kind of bumps I would slam on my brakes for in my German sedan to save the rim are nothing for this truck
I've had a 5.8 litre V8 Ford Bronco for the past 20 years , 350,000 miles, original engine. Honestly I don't give two hoots about having that V8 rumble. Ill take more power over sound any day, besides I want a quiet cabin., Also the look of the new Raptor dissolves away the lack of not having V8 sound. I believe that if you put it in Baja mode the acceleration is greater than any other mode. The old 6.2 V8 Raptor was a bit of a slug compared to the new one, and fooling ones self with greater engine noise is kind of a foolish trade off. This Saturday will be the best Saturday of my life its when I pick up my new 2018 Raptor. And I have no regrets it doesn't have some sluggish rumbling engine under the hood.
So I went into this video with the thought of "alright, let's see if this is something Turbowski can tear down." Sure enough, he's got his grumpy pants on with his demeanor of disdain, casting those trademark contemptuous looks to-and-fro as he hangs off a control arm thicker than Nicki Minaj whilst proclaiming, "You're gonna have to give me the scoop 'cause all I see is some big shocks." I understand, Turbowski. I, too, am not allowed any semblance of happiness. When you show a smidgen of a fractional hint of joy, _they_ win.
11:58 You missed a perfect opportunity to throw in the famous clip of the Raptor doing that huge jump and it landing really hard and deploying the airbags.
I got to drive one of these last week. I drive a lot of nice newer cars at my job, so it's hard to impress me anymore. This truck impressed me. It's incredibly comfortable, the steering and handling is confidence-inspiring, and it's quick. I'm generally NOT a Ford fan, but I'm lusting for one of these now.
I have been watching car/truck/motorcycle review videos for more than 5 years now, and I just recently stumbled upon yours. You sir have quickly become my favorite. Thorough, entertaining, and no nonsense. Keep up the good work, and I commend you for ditching the proverbial 9 to 5 and doing what you love.
As a Ford F150 owner I of course aspire to own this vehicle. Thank you Savage for your in depth details that you cant get anywhere else. Mark you are the best TH-cam reviewer bar none. Turboski rubbed me the wrong way due to his propensity for Chevy but he is growing on me, lol. I have been watching all your reviews lately.
You did a really outstanding job of reviewing this vehicle, Mark. Just enough Turbowski - without curdling the milk ("girl's truck" comment notwithstanding ... lol). Props to you for being so creative and tapping Tri-Industries for this review. Your work just gets better and better. Thank you for covering vehicles of more substance in recent months.
masterwhopper414 Ford basically did that with the last gen F-150. Look up the F-150 Tremor. Almost no one bought it. Their value on the used market is horrendous too. Used car dealers are practically giving them away. Turns out, there really is very little demand for single cab, street sport trucks. The vast majority people want big, tall crew cabs and big, chunky tires when shopping for a truck. Hence the truck in this video.
I remember the Tremor - and no, the value is not horrendous, I can hardly find them (going rate is almost the same as base 2015+ F150) It wasn't a true sports truck like the Lightning was, Ford just stuck in the 3.5 TT in the regular cab and sold it just like that. The SVT can probably make it even better than they did before.
I'm currently driving my 4th Raptor. No, I don't go off-road much (or at all) but I enjoy the performance, the look, the details and exclusivity of the truck.
Dude, you have to remember, this interior is amazing. It's not just good, it seriously amazing. Maybe that's in my opinion, but the cabin is amazing to what I see. This is one of the few pick up trucks I want to haul with and drive as a dd.
God dammit, I'm so easily persuaded. I was just set on a Honda Ridgeline from the last video. Now I'm sure this insane beast is the only way to go. Couldn't be more opposite, yet there it is.
Decent review, However, before you comment that it’s not fast enough, place it in Baja mode and put it in 2 wheel drive. My SuperCrew ran 0-60 in 5.1 seconds stock! Not many vehicles that weigh 5,800 lbs can do that stock. Also, your towing capacity numbers were off: 8,000 lbs for the SuperCrew; 6,000 for the SuperCab. As far as knocking the HO 3.5 sound, I love an old V8 grumble as much as anyone; however, I haven’t found a truck owner yet to line up beside me since I smoked my buddy’s 2014 Raptor and a 2017 Dodge Ram Rebel. I’d rather be first than eat dust any day!
+jamminhard I fuk'd up towing specs and did not catch it. I tried all modes including baja mode and its fast for a truck but I think after getting in and out so many cars that do that or faster. The Subaru WRX I just got out of is faster the Genesis G80 which is a pig at 4500lbs is faster and the Audi A5 2.0T is about the same. Now yes the Raptor is fast for a truck but its average in terms of many vehicles. Now who cares about specs and all that. No one is buying the Raptor for that but I had to bring it up.
You are reviewing a truck, not a car. If I wanted to know what an Audi or Hyundai car or SUV is capable of, I wouldn’t be looking to compare them to a Raptor. Just like I wouldn’t mention comparison of a motorcycle and a car...just makes no sense! Like most viewers, I want to know what, if anything, compares to the Raptor with similar capabilities on and off road.
Agreed! I do miss my V8 sound but the power delivery on my 2017 Raptor is impressive compared to 2014 stock 6.2 raptor. However after 6 months of driving I kind wish I had kept the old truck with only 79k miles on it and freshen up the engine plus supercharged it. Ultimately the big seller for me on the 2017 was all the high tech. Wish I could afford to have both but needed a new 3500 dually diesel too sooooo.
Top center mark is practically mandatory for very "energetic" driving behaviors. This thing isn't hard core but it will effortlessly execute "hard core" if you want it. In reality, it is a very smooth operator.
02:50 - HAHAHA - allow you to get into any drive thru!! The best. Mall cruisers and their 4x4s. I know cause I'm one. Had to subscribe - very funny humor here. Watched the whole video - seriously one of the best overall I've ever seen. Great channel.
They should bring back the Lightning. An RCSB 5.0L only weighs like 4200lbs. They wouldn't even have to supercharge it; that's only 500lb more than a Mustang GT
This is a very good review and very fair I had watched one other of your videos produced by this TH-cam channel and it seemed very biased and I was not interested in watching any other from this channel but this video is very well done because the public knows this is a very good vehicle for those of you who have driven or ridden in this truck it’s top quality and I’m glad to see this shines through on your review thank you
Perfect title. I am in love with the looks of this truck, enough so that I seriously considered buying one. But when I thought about it, there wasn't ONE thing about this vehicle that I actually needed.
Another awesome review; it's nice you're helping w/the fundraiser again. The offer still stands to review my '16 Mustang GT convertible "girl car" with a manual trans, 3.31 gears, a 670 hp Roush supercharger and sticky 285 Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires. I got the Roush Warranty and I'm going to dump it when the warranty expires ;) I think the Mustang will be my first and last Ford, it's not a bad car, just a bit cheap feeling and the quality isn't great.
I think adding an aftermarket exhaust and downpipes would make this truck sound almost as good as a V8.... not as throaty though. It makes good power for a V6 but the NSX has it beat by 123 hp. But it also weighs 3 tons so of course the acceleration isn't going to blow you away. I think people seem to forget about the truck that dominated this performance truck segment when it was introduced, and that was the Supercharged TRD Tundra. 504 hp, 0-60 of 4.4 seconds, and 1/4 mile of just over 12 seconds. That is a ridiculous truck and still a V8 so you get the amazing sound plus supercharger whine, and acceleration thats faster than a Mustang GT and Charger/Challenger R/T. If i were to get a truck, the Tundra would be it. But, the new Raptor is definitely on my list, I love the way it looks.
I’m relieved. Here I am thinking I’m the only dude who’s ever torn an ACL while petting my cat. Seriously though this is one of the most information filled reviews on a Raptor.
If I hear that damn Ford chime again I’ll swear off buying a Ford forever. I had a 2011 F150 for almost 5 years and their chime made me want to take a drill to my ears.
Just a suggestion from a frequent viewer. You could try scoring the vehicles in different categories at the end of the reviews so we could visualize at the same time all the pros and cons of said vehicle, also I think it would be more entertaining.
Great review and spot on! I like this Raptor and have one on order. It's not for everybody, for sure. Do I "need" it NO...do I want it YES!! I've always had V8 trucks until my 2016 King Ranch with the 3.5 EB. EB better mileage (not by much) but with so much more torque would kick the crap out of my 2013 Platinum's 5.0. Looking forward to the HO EB power and torque...I do hope the turbo whine is noticeable like on my 2016 KR. Also, the "piped in" engine noise can be defeated with FORScan adjustment. Thanks again and also enjoyed your review of the GT350, so much I have one parked in my garage ;)
Stiff in the pants lol maybe when I saw that man-step and pole, but you broke my heart when you didn't dance on it...helluva throw back to the first SG video I ever watched lmao
I watch a lot of car reviews. great episode, and just great work overall on all your videos. Id be interested to see your review on the velar as well if you havent already done one.
I know this is really weird, but I was thinking about how awesome this truck would be in a Walking Dead situation. That front skid plate would be great for taking down zombies without sustaining damage. And the power increase would help plow over more zombies. And also the extra tough shocks means that you could do higher jumps into crowds of zombies.
Great review! No truck is pure. I have just picked up my 2024 Shelter Green Raptor. Love it! If you want speed buy an EV. They will smoke anything on the road!
I could buy a house in some parts of the country for $70K. This shit is just too damned expensive. I still have massive respect for my childhood SUV: a 1976 Jeep Wagoneer with full-time Quadra Track. That thing could go anywhere--snow for skiing, mountains, etc. And it wasn't 30K. They should include PCV catch cans as stock. Anyways thanks for the great info.
it's cheaper to replace the running boards than the doors and under side of the truck lol, that was the true design for the running boards was to be "sliders" so you're not dragging the trucks body on rocks, just the boards
I worked at a Ford dealer and I can agree the running boards hurt if you hit them wrong. Also I feel the truck is quick, for a truck but not insane. Way better then the old Raptor except for the sound. A lot of people who bought these are posers and they bought them just because they can. Hardly any of them were taken off road.
@@insayn7995 Yes, I used to drive it 100 miles a day to and from Boston. It was great - It's just a big luxury car that happens to kick ass in the desert too. The only drawback is the size - It didn't fit in most parking garages and parking was always an issue. But it's a great daily driver.
"I am no small man..." goes on saying he's 5'9 and a "stealthy" 150 lbs. Well played sir, well played.
Most recent video "I am small in every single aspect of my body"
“Stealthy.” Lol.
Spray-in bedliner is needed for this truck so those bags from Macy's don't scratch the bed.
it's not needed
LOL
Raven James It is needed or did you not watch the video.
Have a 2017 Raptor. Can confirm.
You mean Nordstrom.
Macy's! ahahahahahaha.

King Kwon after one year I have questions for u.. What about plastic oil pan and oil plug ?
Is there any oil lake
King Kwon thank you! You get it! It was so annoying listening to him bitch about sound...SOUND! The v6 may not have sound but it is the FAR superior engine in every other way! @@fahadalshahrani7298 2nd half of 2017 that is fixed, the 1st half of 2017 they sold plastic oil pans. Now they sell metal oil pans.

Hey man its really cool of you for working with Tri Industries helping to support Veterans and Disabled! I most definitely will be donating to them.
ya it's definitely a good cause.
Redzo79 you are an ass
It's like he kinda wants to hate it, but has to admit that it's a great truck. Not perfect, but show me anything that is...

It’s always a good day when savagegeese uploads any video.
Yeah I love his car reviews. All these car journalists need to take notes.
I love how the cars/trucks get on the lift for us to see what's under the car

Out of all the Ford Raptor YT reviews, this is the absolute best one!
Savagegeese, your reviews are by far the best. Can't wait for the next one. Please let me know how to donate to the channel.

Lower it, give it street tires, regular cab formation...

Can you set up a Soundcloud/Pandora/Spotify account where you and Turbowski share your favorite driving tunes? We want to judge/bash your taste.
I would subscribe to a Spotify playlist immediately.
Plz do this

Now this is a proper off roader.. In my personal opinion, no maker in the world beats Ford in this matter.
The Raptor is not a rock crawler, it is based on a desert racer.
Which so many people do.

If I hear that damn Ford chime again I’ll swear off buying a Ford forever. I had a 2011 F150 for almost 5 years and their chime made me want to take a drill to my ears.
internet..my wife's Subaru Crosstrek..I yell at it all the time..cheeps when you lock the doors cheeps when you unlock the doors.
i like the chime.... its unique
It’s the only truck brand to pass the IIHS, along with the Tacoma. Your choice
InternetDude It's not that bad bro.
Oh what a cry baby bitch 😂😂😂
"While you were reading this, I farted" why does that shirt fit Scott perfectly
One of the best reviews I have seen so far. Thanks for that!
This review is a one liner gold mine! Awesome work SG.
Good review man. Just got to point out most people are not v8 sound fanatics. Most people enjoy a quiet ride.
Well done man. This is the most in depth review I've seen and I appreciate how through you are. A +
Always great reviews and amazing quality. Love the sense of humor that comes across your videos as well.
Does Turbowski actually like any car?
camaros lol
He fucking hates all American cars...
GT3
Porsche
@@KSeguraR I do to most of them because there junk.
Love Turbowski's reaction to the engine XD
Watch out RCR -- the Goose is coming after your brand of humor at full speed.
Fuck this is so good.
What a ridiculously great and thorough video you made for this car, I mean truck! You did your homework!
Just a suggestion from a frequent viewer. You could try scoring the vehicles in different categories at the end of the reviews so we could visualize at the same time all the pros and cons of said vehicle, also I think it would be more entertaining.
The same V8 with no power was put in the 1996 mustang gt. It was so slow, but felt so fast. Sensory overload! I have one.
This channel does the best car reviews on the internet!
I was debating if this was the truck for me but, that dance pole .......I'm sold!
Those control arms are massive.
Excellent review! Hit the nail on the head with so many issues plaguing supposed high performance trucks.
I used my whole lunch to watch this now I'm hungry
+A jacko I hope it was worth you starving for the day
savagegeese it's a truck but the quality didn't let me down and the cause great
Great review hahaha love the sense of humor. I hope to add a Raptor to my TH-cam channel asap!
I watch a lot of car reviews. great episode, and just great work overall on all your videos. Id be interested to see your review on the velar as well if you havent already done one.
If I move to the countryside I will buy a raptor. It’s really good.
Love your reviews man. You just have a great vibe and are very detailed. Keep up the good work!
This thing is the ultimate mall crawler.
Nah that title goes to the Mercedes G Wagen 4x4 Squared.
Power wagon is the mud crawler. This is an unrivaled dune truck
LOL, "dance pole"! Great video! I love your dry sense of humor.
That sliding rear window tho.
This is the best review I have seen so far.
One of the shows I watch did a cat back exhaust, CAI and tuned it and said it was a totally different thing. Both in sound and acceleration.
5:19 lmao wtf
When Clarkson used this in the Grand Tour and said it was a very good car, that's saying something!
I used to work at a ford dealer, oh yeah I drove raptors and I can say they're totally worth MSRP
Hahahahaha my kitchen costs more than 70k
A 1976 Jeep Wagoneer in mint condition would do me just fine.
that push up smile at the end!
Savage upload this early? IM HYPE 😁😁😁
I had a Toyota Tercel once, the exhaust sounded just like this Raptor :-)!
it's cheaper to replace the running boards than the doors and under side of the truck lol, that was the true design for the running boards was to be "sliders" so you're not dragging the trucks body on rocks, just the boards
Obsessedgarage will be all over this!
DieselDan09 I think he just bought one
I just realized Ive been saying damping wrong as "dampening" lol thanks for the additional insight. Awesome review again, as always.
I absolutely love mine.
@ 11:10 Middle right frame, notice the metal corner bent in almost touching the plastic fuel tank. Keep an eye on that.
Great video! I enjoyed watching, almost 3 years later...
Well done, your dialogue is like that from a book. Has flaws but overall you are ahead of the curve.
Exterior driving shots - nice!!
I have a 2017 Raptor. I love the thing. This is a pretty good review.
Would you recommend it as a daily?
@@insayn7995 Yes, I used to drive it 100 miles a day to and from Boston. It was great - It's just a big luxury car that happens to kick ass in the desert too. The only drawback is the size - It didn't fit in most parking garages and parking was always an issue. But it's a great daily driver.
