Just made this cake. Omg it worked so well! Was using a 5 cup rice cooker but used 3/4 of the recipe instead of 1/2. 4 eggs and its worked really well!!
Great cake. Reminds me of bread pudding but much lighter. I have a basic 5 cup Zojirushi, and it cooked perfect using the brown rice setting for 1-1/2 hours. It puffed up so much it was touching the underside of the lid! Thank you!
@@thehapamommy Not on my model. Not sure if any of them can change the cooking time. According to my instructions for it says for brown rice the cooking time is approximately 1hr 20min to 1hr 50min, so I used that setting. I checked it at 1-1/2 hours and it was pau cook.
Works just fine in mine. Just return after an hour and a half. Even though it sprung it continues heating it sufficiently to bake. Mine is a very basic Zojirushi model
Just made this cake for the first time and lo and behold, my 10 yo Panasonic rice cooker has a Cake setting. Haha! Came out amazingly well-added a bit of vanilla for added flavor. Only issue was it stuck a little so needed to coax it out of the pot with a spatula. Some of the surface stuck but no one in my family seemed to notice or care. Cake is half gone a couple hours later and everyone is eyeing a second piece. Yum.
I need some help. My cake turned out really dense. The batter looked really fluffy when I put it in and mid cook, it was also really nice. But i had to open my old rice cooker multiple times to get it going. Maybe it deflated. Do you have any tips?
May I ask how long your rice function cooks for? I know your description says you click it twice, but my rice cooker for white rice is 60 minutes long. If I click twice, that’s 2 hours long. Is that too long? Also, when it cools down, does the top of cake deflate?
You could cook it for 60 minutes and then check it by inserting a toothpick in. If it comes out clean, it's ready Yes it will deflate a little since we're using a rice cooker
I tried making it but had to half the recipe as my rice cooker is only a 5 cup one. But right after I opened it the cake seems to shrink and deflate a lot. What am I doing wrong? Should I wait longer after it’s done cooking before opening the rice cooker? Or did I overwhip the egg whites?
Ive used this recipe and the cake turned out EXACTLY like the sponge cakes and the cream cakes I get at my local Chinese bakery!!! SO GOOD

Can you increase the time on the zojirushi?? I have never done it

Edit: 1-1/2 hours and it was finished cooking.
Would this recipe also work in a rice cooker which doesn't have a time function? (mine automatically springs to "warm mode" once the rice is cooked)
Mine too. Did you ever try it?
Trying rn!!!
@@sbjb2537 any results?
I had to recook it three times and the top was still a bit raw, I might try it on brown rice setting as that cooks for longer?

I have COVID and I’m really craving this cake.

@@MaggiesFoodLot thank you so much for replying. I’m going to give it a try tmw.
Yummy 😊
I wondered if I can use alternative milk like oatmilk instead?
Yes
I tried it with our rice cooker but it shrinks after it cools down..I don’t know what I am doing wrong, need help
~ Mine keeps “falling.” Do you have any suggestions for me? Do I need to remove it from the pan as soon as the cooking time is complete?
Leave it in while the machine is off and let it cool off inside.
People advise putting a papertowel under the lid over the rice pan to mitigate water dropping into the cAke which could be why it’s deflating..

It's normal, since we are using a rice cooker.
Only good for rice cooker with baking.
This looks delicious! May I ask what option you chose on the rice cooker?
Thanks, Regular white rice function. I clicked twice. You can check by inserting a toothpick in. If it comes out clean, it's ready
When you click twice, it will quickly go uo because it's hot already.
why you don’t put baking powder
Would this also work in a instapot?
Sorry I never try this recipe with an instant pot before
Hello! What type of oil did you use? Thank you :)
Vegetable oil
I used avocado oil, and it turned out delicious.
@@MaggiesFoodLot thanks Maggie for this wonderful recipe!
You're welcome
I made this and it was gone in a matter of hours! I'm making one again today but adding pandan in it 🙂
Glad it turnout great
it did not work for me. The cake is not floppy like in the video, it only has 1/4 of thickness and very dense.
What type of milk did you use? tia
Whole milk
We need to Grease the rice cooker pan orang not?? 🙏
No, don't need to grease the rice cooker
@@MaggiesFoodLot thankyou🙏
😢 something I did wrong with the white eggs. They didn't foam
It takes a long time and lot of beating to get egg whites to whip to standing peaks.
