This show isn't really about the food so much as it's about Gordon literally repairing families and communities. What a guy
He's an empath
Only in the US version
@@LordArbiterThermite Well, yeah.
In the UK version, he's allowed to focus solely on the restaurant, without worrying about the TV drama.
@PositivyT I absolutely despise reality tv, but Gordon does it genuinely and with a passion for his craft. Very different from reality tv I think
this show sometimes shows something that I've been a big advocate of: so many issues in today's life would be solved with therapy. sometimes you just need a 3rd person who is objective or has a fresh outlook and can kinda tear down the walls, calm the waves, make you face your problems head on. because let's face it, often we don't have the ability to face a problem head on. our brain makes us cut corners, or avoid finding solutions by not fixating on the problem, by dodging it. with therapy, and it doesn't need ot be deep "dive into your brain and figure out your innermost insecurities" therapy. just normal, easy going therapy. talking to a person who knows their shit, who knows when to add comments and when to let you talk and when to ask questions. it can help so many people in so many different situations in life, but it's stigmatized. "oh he's seeing a shrink he must be wrong in the head" "look at her she's going to therapy something must be wrong with her" "look at them seeking couple counseling, their relationship must be in the bin". fuck stigmatizing therapy. therapy should be a normalized thing. it should be as normal as going to the doctor's when you have a cold and can't come in to work! (I know it's different for you Americans, since you can't go to the doctor for a cold because you'll be bankrupt, but that's a whole other topic)
I always wanted to hug Celine during this episode. During the entire episode she didn't carry herself unprofessionally, yet she got the short end of the stick every time. She was also the person who effectively saved their restaurant by calling Gordon over. La Frite was one of Kitchen Nightmare's few success stories; the restaurant did very well until they decided to sell it.
Celine was the reason the whole thing didn't blow up on them.
The fact that the brother and father just lets the chef ignore their daughter/sister is pathetic.
100% this. if i was the father or brother, that chef would have been out of there ages ago. No room in my life for misogynistic behaviour, it is just pure toxic and helps no one.
It’s absolutely ridiculous
a total failure this guy
Just fired martin
Patriarchy...
Everyone kept telling Celine that she needed to work with her brother, stop crying and take control of the kitchen, but no one was telling Alex to work with his sister and stop acting like an abusive three year old, stop making her cry, or for the cook to start respecting his boss. What disgusting behavior from her family!
It took me 9363036226 times to understand that sentence but fr
He really was acting childish in this episode. But at the same time, his sister really should stop crying like a ninny and stand her ground.
@@seijin4426 women are a lot more emotional, it's usually harder for them to be rational when their emotion overflows. She probably dealt with the same thing that it'll eventually break her sooner or later cuz shit I'd be crying too if I have been dealing the same shit she does. She literally tried to stand her ground and talk to others about the problem no one listened, I don't even think she would be able to keep doing it if no one listens to her for thousands of time.
@@Luxi3restill, Martin didn't have to brush her off like some cuckold.

@@hanzen5174 Chef Mike works as hard as it can, yet many awful people don't want to allow chef Mike anywhere near the restaurants. It's not fair.
Bruh Celine is literally the most calm, kind and put together person on this show like wtf. If i was ignored when i know full well i was the only one that knew how to fix the problems id get so angry. Especially if it was because i was a girl. And if i started crying from family issues someone tells me to "stop crying" like WHAT KIND OF WORK ENVIRONMENT IS THIS, HELL???
The problem is the father actually. Maybe many people don’t notice it but he has such misogynistic attitudes and big egos. Subtle but red flags are all there. The fact that this father allows such shi*ty attitude Martin to still be an employee is beyond ridiculous. If I were the owner I would get rid of him in seconds to behave like that to anyone, especially my family members. Also the father is not very smart, like unintelligent. Who would go to a hockey game when your restaurant is about to be closed and this wonderful opportunity is handed to you? I have to have no brain to do something like that. And the fact that mother didn’t have a say in all this says it all. Some restaurants are not meant to survive really.
I agree. It's like they don't want her to be there. The head chef is totally disgusting. He's slowing the service just because he doesn't wanna respond to Celine? Mysogyny or not, she's your boss! Also, the manager told her to stop crying while she's having a mental breakdown is totally ridicullous. It's taking a long time for them to calm down, I know how it feels like. Also, the fact Gordon Ramsay can manage the rivalry between those 2 siblings than the father did really shows that he is the worse father ever! Why didn't they just have a family meeting and talk to each other? Isn't that hard? And he's going to watch Hockey instead of helping the restaurant and the siblings rivalry is a joke!
She deserves a better family, frankly. She says she loves her brother, meanwhile he hates her and treats her like shit just so he can force her out the business and keep it all for himself. And the parents either say nothing or put the blame on her.
She is calm cause she wants to also run the restaurant. Brother is pissed off cause he feels like she will take away the work he did after he got the restaurant, therefore he is resigned and angry. these are preservation signs. the father is angry at her cause, "if you want to be the one running the business. then do it and have no excuses". 2 people can not run a restaurant in harmony, this is why you have silent partners...

What makes me feel uneasy is how Martin still has not gotten fired after how many times Gordon tried to suggest them? He was the number 1 reason for the failure of the restaurant in my opinion.
Later, in the revisit episode, Gordon revisit this restaurant again and Martin is not there anymore. Instead, Chuy, the chef that Gordon brought in to help becomes the Executive Chef of the restaurant and their father is helping on the kitchen again. At least thats what the editing team made the show look like. You're aware that this is heavily edited I hope and an intentional drama fest.

Andre: doesn’t parent his adult children in a way that guides them to get along & keep the family unit strong, he fails in his capacity as a father to mentor his son not to treat his daughter like she’s a doormat, abandons at crucial moments when his family needs him
Mother: telling Celine she “has to” fix it and get along with men who legit disregard her every single action
Celine: taking everyone else’s failure personally and trying to fix it all, keep it all together, constantly used by others as a straw man, fawning to keep her brother and father….

To those who are interested: La Frite aired on May 20 2011, the episode was filmed in January 2011 and Yelp reviews following the filming of the episode were mixed, the Sunday brunch seems to have the most negative reviews. Trip Advisor reviews were most positive with fewer negative reviews.
In July 2016 the restaurant was bought by George Zaoui who kept the restaurant as La Frite for a year.
La Frite closed in September 2017 when the owner changed the restaurant to an Italian eatery Modo Mio.
With every episode I always look forward to have these restaurants to continue for years and years, it always saddens me when even Gordon can’t help and they don’t continue running😢
Now it’s abandoned
so much for passing it to his kids for 30 more years
Add a comet.
There is only one people that a want to fail and closed this would be the place people are dumb
Update La Frite was sold but the new owner couldn’t reverse the damage. New Italian restaurant replaced it.
Good riddance
Thanks for the update. Such a shame
Sad
Was it run by NINO?!
It was sold for 12.7 million dollars. There was no damage at the time of sale.

Why the hell did they keep Martin?! I would've fired him when he failed to communicate at the grand opening.
I hope they fired him during the time they didn’t close
I watch the revisit episode of this restaurant, Martin wasn't there anymore and instead it was the father who was back to the kitchen to cook again. The siblings worked together as the team and no one mentioning where Martin was. Unfortunately the restaurant closed at 2017 but the restaurant survived from the day the episodes aired since 2011 for 6 years so it's not bad.

The fact that Gordon can help fix even the most broken family relationships is a great indicator of how good of a boss he is. I can't imagine any of his employees ever having a fight without it being fixed immediately by talking it out. Love to see it. Much respect to Gordon.
either fixed or fired. Gordons restaurants be much busier so either he fixes fighting staff or he won't put up with it and ask for their chef jackets
Because Gordon himself is starting from bottom as Marco Pierre White's student and he even cried when got trained by him. He himself had a family problem for having an abusive father and a drug addict brother. He knows that if the family torn apart, the restaurant is torn apart.
You do realize that much of this stuff is dramatized right? Most of these restaurants close down months later.
@@bradm6287 because they don’t listen , the ones that succeeded (few) actually followed Gordon’s advice

This show is literally a rollercoaster of emotions
boy, i wish you could see czech kitchen nightmares and my fav episodes
1) Owners dont pay their kitchen staff, they give chef items to sell instead and then call police on him so he ends up in detention cell
2) Owner scammed her ex boyfriend, cheated on him and episode ends half way through when her ex brings some mafia guys and they chase away the TV crew and the owners
3) Owners dont pay their kitchen staff and one of the ex-employees comes straight into shot and threatens to beat them up
those are rollercoasters of emotions, mostly "WTF" emotions

His career was over decades ago but he was allowed to leech for years without consequences. This guy was no way a head chef, maybe flipping burgers as his career.
Celine is the star of this episode. Terrible to see the disrespect FATHER and BROTHER had for her. "He is my boy and she is HIS sister" Disgusting.
Martin refusing to talk with Celine...if that was my restaurant he would be long gone. With the brother and father he ruined that restaurant.
I hope Celine will have her own place or has a good job as manager of a good restaurant. She really deserves all credit.
The thing I LOVE about Ramsay, is when he is talking the the chefs, managers, and the owner(s); he always says "we".
How every episode goes

Gordon:raw and feels frozen

@@strz3086 Every time he says that the food is bland I think the cook(s) just didn't add enough spices. I use a lot when I cook, my first dishes were too spicy, even for me. Or perhaps he means something else. Either way, what Gordon gets is crap.
Don't forget, it isn't US Kitchen Nightmares without the Family Snivel.
Gordon is a good guy. Some people think he's all bark bark bark, "this is raw", etc. But no, he's a pretty good guy. And a damn good chef.

This restaurant did survive for five years with these owners after this episode. In Kitchen Nightmare terms, that's an epic win. I call it a miracle.
They were open for like 40 years
@@m.t.1616 he's mainly talking about the relaunch, as this restaurant was going into debt, so the fact it survived 1/2 years after it's change, let alone 5, is a rare thing to see on this show, as many close down due to debt issues or returning to old ways.
Also, in the revisit episode, Martin isn't working at there anymore and the father goes back to the kitchen to cook again and the siblings are working together again as a team and Chuy, the chef that Gordon brought in became their Executive Chef.
