    Unsure if anyone knows but the cap on the piston, is it necessary. I'm changing my rotors and pads and mine seems a bit crimped but was able to place it back in while putting everything together.
    You can see the cap at 3:56

    Don't forget to clean and relubricate the caliber slides. Very important to do so.

      Good point! I had performed that step but, did not get it on camera!

    Did you have to spread the caliper before removing the pads?

    • @WJsLifeonaBoat
      @WJsLifeonaBoat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The pads came right out for removal. I had to push the caliper piston in to install the new pads, since they are thicker, before trying to reinstall the caliper on the bracket.

    Do you lock the door first before servicing the brakes?

    • @WJsLifeonaBoat
      @WJsLifeonaBoat  ปีที่แล้ว

      No? I'm not sure what you mean?

    • @unrealriot
      @unrealriot ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WJsLifeonaBoat Well, I did some research on forums and people say that you make sure the cars are locked first before servicing the brakes. Otherwise you would trigger the SBC system saying that there's a brake problem. I'm just curious.

    • @WJsLifeonaBoat
      @WJsLifeonaBoat  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unrealriot never heard of that, nor had any issues. I didn't disconnect the brake lines or anything. I suppose I'll refer you to the service manual.

      @@WJsLifeonaBoat Got it. Thanks for your info about your experience. I was questioning myself whether I need to disable the SBC first.

    • @WJsLifeonaBoat
      @WJsLifeonaBoat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@unrealriot safe way may be to do that based on the service manual. But like I said, I just took it apart, replaced the rotor and pad and called it a day.

    Did you have to program the car for this service? What type of computer did you use?

    • @WJsLifeonaBoat
      @WJsLifeonaBoat  ปีที่แล้ว

      No need for reprogramming. No computer needed.

      You got very lucky.
      You are supposed to disable the SBC brake system. If it activated while your hand was in there it could crush it. Or if the caliper was off the car it could push the piston out of the caliper and spew brake fluid all over the place.
      Count your blessings, you got lucky!

      Excellent comment - I go so far as to disconnect the multi-pin connector under the hood just left of front center. Hopefully, your comment may save some poor DIY'er his finger...@@DirtyRottenBikes

      Please DISABLE the SBC pump BEFORE trying to do this!

      MUST disable SBC before doing brake work or risk losing a finger. If it should become activated via remote key or errand radio signals, could activate and cause caliper slam shut. I ALWAYS disconnect the SBC connector just to the left front (passenger-side) of the engine bay. Once work is completed, I re-plug the multiple pin connector and all is well, especially my 10 fingers.

    WRONG! If you have the SBC brake system you MUST either deactivate the system or remove the negative off the battery & leave the doors closed. If you don't the brake pistons can kill you!
