05:01 From the "This one is slightly sweeter" I could accurately tell that the middle one was bottled Diet Coke, the left (right for them) was can, and the "slightly sweeter" was the Dispenser Diet Coke. Dispenser soda is a mixture between carbonated water and soda syrup, syrup has a more sweeter taste to it, especially if the mixing isn't as watered out as I am used to. Bottled coke fizzes a lot, so that middle glass being the bottled coke was a no brainer. Then that only left the canned coke.
My mom actually worked for Food Lion in Tennessee for 20+ years, so seeing it appear on the list brought a bittersweet moment on for me. It was much of my childhood, always being around the store whenever mom couldn't find a babysitter, but also it was a point of contention as she was unfairly fired for a health condition- she had surgery on her Achilles Tendon and needed a medical 'boot' in order to walk. When she was told by her district manager that she couldn't wear it around the store, well her performance took a noticeable dip- as one who could barely walk would have had. They then fired her for it- citing 'too many sick days/medical leave'. She died from a heart attack in her sleep half a year before the class action lawsuit finished up in courts. Side note: Food Lion lost.
I would like to be the first one to say that the management at that store were idiots and had no right to do what they did to your mum. YOU HAD THE RIGHT TO SUE THEM, and to those managers I say;SHE HAD AN INJURY, YOU DICKS.
I feel bad and I personally have experience with the Food Lions, my mom shops at food lion all the time so I never get a break from lemon up and mountain lion flavor. (I live in North Carolina and they have a lot of them in Clemmons.)

Yeah, and with Pepsi being from New Bern and Coke from Atlanta, it's no surprise that the southern colas were excellent and the northern ones were nasty.
You can tell this is Matt’s speciality. People always have a cheerful glint in their eye when they are speaking about something that they are truly passionate about. In Matt’s case is just so happens to be Diet cola drinks.
Personal theory: The reason Steph may have preferred Coke Zero over other diet sodas is because Coke Zero is designed and flavored to be more appealing to people to who prefer the original soda, or non-diet sodas, but are looking to move to diet sodas. I myself started changing to diet sodas recently, and I've found I like the Coke Zero products far more than the Diet Coke (or Coke Light as it's actually called in Europe) products, because Coke Light caters to people who specifically are looking for the diet soda taste, while Coke Zero is made for people who like the traditional Coke taste.
@@litwicked3312 Not in Mexico. Coke Zero and original taste more alike, while Diet Coke (or Coke Light) tastes waaaaay different, and I just can't stand it.
Yea same, i switched to diet for my health but most diet sodas taste almost chemical ish, so when i tried coke zero vanilla for the first time it was a breath of fresh air, coke zero was still coke zero, so it tastes better now that the recipe has been tweaked, but all my sodas are now zero sugar, imcluding root beer, several mnt dews, dr pepper cream soda (yes really) and energy drinks
@@litwicked3312 No, what *you* just said is easily debunked by the fact that Diet Coke was BASED OFF OF ANOTHER COLA BRAND ENTIRELY. Coke Zero was based off of the formula for ACTUAL Coke and therefore obviously tastes more like Coke. It's public knowledge right on Wikipedia that you could've looked up for yourself rather than make baseless claims. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_Coke Drink what you want, but no, Diet Coke does NOT taste more like the original whatsoever.
The fact that the cola they wanted to put in was unavailable, and Haris Teeter being the ONLY other one they could get... Feels like a sign from the universe

I would love an episode checking on how unhealthy diet sodas are compared to the normal ones. I'm sure a lot of people would be surprised by what sweeteners do with your body.
I've heard a lot of conflicting information for both. Personally, I stick to regular, because at least I know what sugar is, compared to other sweeteners, and I'd rather drink less soda that's unhealthier, compared to something that tastes like chemicals, and is still probably really bad for you
There is no solid evidence that sweeteners are unhealthy or bad for you. There IS solid evidence that sugar (in non-natural quantities) IS bad for you. Job done.
@@PhillipParr I guess I should be more specific and say it tastes like chemicals that aren't water. Similes aside, I don't really like the taste of diet soda and chose not to drink it. Artificial sweeteners are probably healthier than sugar, but I'd rather just limit my pop intake. From a behavioral standpoint, you also tend to see people make poor health decisions like eating fast food, but will drink diet pop to "balance it out"

The flashes of light earlier could have been a sign to look closer into these types of things. Just a thought. Edit 4: Another flash at 22:52. Edit 6: One at 3:03, someone mentioned they think it's the camera bugging out but idk, it's happening on segments that don't even use the camera. Edit 7: The other possibility is that TH-cam is bugging which would be a bit disappointing. Even if we don't immediately find anything I think we should keep looking into it. Edit 8: video time between mobile and PC differ, so take all of these times with a grain of salt as it could be seconds earlier or later depending on what you're using. Edit 9: There are some weirdly capitalized letters in the description, I am 80% sure this is just Mat being weird but you never know. Edit 10: This will most likely be the last edit. I have come to realise that unfortunately, the overwhelming most likely possibility is that TH-cam us just glitchy with new videos right now for some reason. Lol
Is there even a past tense of quit?
@@justjuniorjaw Quit is the past tense of the adverb used before the word quit determines if its past, present, or future tense. Examples: I have quit, I had quit and I will quit are examples of past, present, and future tense uses of the word quit. Quitted is not a word it's considered improper grammar for the most part; it's similar to how fish is singular and plural when talking about a single type of fish and the adjective before the word fish determines its quantity. The word fishes as a noun is not the plural of fish it's only plural when used to describe 2 or more types of fish.

Wow, I'm sorry for you man, I know how hard it is to loose a love one

After this episode, we really need a food theory on all the sugar substitutes! Stevia? Aspartame? Which one to bake with? Which ones healthiest?
I don't know about Stevia, but Aspartame can cause headaches with some people. Health "benefits" might not be worth it to use Aspartame if the trade off is headaches.
I find blending as many as possible matches sugar the most. Each sweetener only activates some of the types of sweetness receptors on the tongue, so using a blend of sweeteners will activate more types of receptors. 1:1 Stevia + splenda comes pretty close to sugar I’ve found.
@@Eternalchildofaction Well it could be placebo and it's not all people but as long as you don't take like 500 packets full off sweetner per day you should be fine

As a person who lives in North Carolina and has a severe soda addiction, this was a pretty cool episode.

Cheerwine
Same here, except the soda part.
Debunked theory. Diet coke tastes 10x more like the og than coke zero
@@litwicked3312 Not in Mexico. Coke Zero and original taste more alike, while Diet Coke (or Coke Light) tastes waaaaay different, and I just can't stand it.
@@THEGRAYGRIFFIN Babe, peruano aquí. La coca 0 NADA que ver con la OG.
It's public knowledge right on Wikipedia that you could've looked up for yourself rather than make baseless claims. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_Coke
Drink what you want, but no, Diet Coke does NOT taste more like the original whatsoever.

Job done.
@@davidmhh9977 Water is a chemical, and a very good solvent too. It literally tastes like chemicals!
