Love the reviews you do Paul, that tent looks a solid bit of kit, views weren’t bad either ;-) What impressed me the most was the thought and editing that made it so enjoyable to watch.I’m not sure, but do I detect a new camera as well? Detail and colour looked great on my iPad! Well done Sir.
Thank you Anthony. Glad you enjoyed the video. Been working on learning the editing side of things to try and bring a better experience for you guys. I'm still learning but hope to get better. The new camera is the LX15. Very compact but I can now film in 4K. Takes an age to upload though. Best wishes
Thanks to this video I’ve bought this tent today… along with a sleeping mat/bag/pillow/stove/rucksack/light/thermals/cooking gear/dry sacks. Can’t wait to get out!!
I have owned the Wild Country Trisar +for 32 years and it has never let me down . Ok it’s not a lightweight backpacking tent as such but it has proven to be easy to set up , very stable in high winds, never leaked and enough comfortable room for one person with kit or two persons with kit in not so comfortable situation.
This video is 2 years old now. And it's still as delightful as it was the first time I saw it. you put a lot of effort into making it look like anyone can do this. It's appreciated, Paul. Hope you're staying safe this April in 2020.
I've been binge watching your camping. No one in my family has ever gone camping and I know seven generations back. Absolute joy watching you. Once I've made up my mind to go motorcycle camping. I will hound you for advice. Thank you..
Do it they is nothing better than carrying your gear on your bike and pitching your home, get a good sleeping bag as along as your not cold you will enjoy it
Good camp spot! Buttermere is a lovely valley and a smashing place to catch good sunrises as the morning light hits the surrounding hills on the south side. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Paul, great vid as always. 5 years old & still amazing. I got the helm compact 2 for Christmas( Black Friday 30% discount). Can’t wait to get out in it. Also got myself a footprint, extra pegs and 4 ground anchor pegs the same as yours. Thanks for all the inspiration 😊
Really nice video, one little tip about the Adventure foods is that they have a series of 'Fill lines' on the side and each one tells you which line to fill to. Then give it a stir before you wait the ten minutes. Otherwise they can be a bit gravelly. Love the video, thanks for making it.
Awesome Paul, we appreciate all the effort you go to with these video's. It's nice to see content creators that are passionate about bringing great quality vlogs to our screens. Hope your well and all the best from both of us. Gareth&Zoe Wildcamps
Cheers folks. Thanks for the kind words and for watching. I enjoy the editing as much as the trips out. I know you guys are the same. Hope to catch up with you both again soon. ATB Paul
We do indeed Paul, the capturing of these ace places on video for others is just as much fun as the camping side of it. We know some knock the effort some of us content creators put in for our audiences but like you we like to capture these places in the most lifelike ways possible on video for others to see. Yes hopefully catch up at Edale if your about :)
Don't understand the knockers (pardon the pun) and anyway, we don't make videos for them. TH-cam allows anyone to be as creative as they want to be. Its more interesting to see things from different angles, perspectives and a good mixture of movement and stationary footage. That's how I see it anyway. Still learning though so hopefully I'll get there 😂. I'm sure I'll be making an appearance at Edale so see you then. Take care. 👍
Hello you two, some great stuff here agreed. Anyone knocking it needs a bang on the head! I've just been asking Paul about his mat. How are you getting along with your alpkit airo? I've seen your glowing review vid. Are either of you a side sleeper like me, if so does it support the hips? I'm considering the full length version or the heavier dirtbag...at least until I can justify a top end mat.
Really enjoyed that Paul, brilliantly put together with the different angles, really professional. That looked like a cracking spot and a nice camp, thanks for sharing ATB Ben.
Stunning Paul, Stunning. Such a great spot. I do like the alpkit gear. The tent is on my list. Currently I have none. As I use to got out with a friend. Covid etc changed things so need my own now.
I’ve been to roughly that location with my Helm 1. I personally think it’s a fantastic tent and extremely strong. I got the helm 1 for less weight but it still keeps better head height than any other in its class I think.
Hi Paul, Lovin' the vids mate, They are very informative and instructional. I like the way you review the camping equipment and also show how to use it.
Great vid Paul. Been building up my gear recently to start going wild camping. I'd bought a Banshee Pro 200, but after pitching it up in the garden and seeing this vid talking about the Helm 2 I've just ordered one - purely for the extra space. I might now sell the Banshee! Keep the vids coming, and stay safe on them hills.
Great video - I pretty much have all the gear together to try some wild camping myself and this has given me some confidence and ideas of where to go and what to expect 😁
What a stunning spot ! Amazing views and a glorious sunset - can almost smell that fresh air... Really miss the Lake District - sadly a 6hr drive nowadays. But will add that spot to my bucket list, for when next up that way 👍 ATB
Like your videos not my thing but can see why you do these walls and hikes, might try it sometime, have to admit I have watched quite a few of your videos now and enjoy them, keep it up and thanks for videos Paul 👍🍺
great style of video paul. great camp.canny gift from trail. had my eye on the helm for a bit now but was was waiting for more reviews before deciding. atb mate. geordie.
The stove costs £90 on amazon so not a bad gift at all. Glad you enjoyed the video and in my opinion the Helm is worth the punt. I'm preferring it to the Akto at the moment. ATB Paul
Coool 👍👍👍.... so good ... very informative.... I love the outdoors and I am new to camping ... and I am wanting to step out of my comfort zone this year and do some wild camping.....Just starting my research into locations, gear, and tips.... Yours is the first vlog I have watched and I have not been put off yet.... so thanks for sharing.... The tent looks like a winner.... and the stove.... lovin the dehydrated food....👍👍👍.....
Great vid Paul, well done, I like the tent so I bought the Helm 3 in case the Mrs wants to come with me, I have the nature hike cloud peak 2 as well, hard to say which is the best yet
I'm thinking of getting the helm 2, would be a great upgrade for me as I'm using a Vango soul 200 that cost £40 back in 2016, my wife may also join me in the future so not sure if we would both fit comfortably in the helm 2
Cracking as always Paul...some nice little camera touches to the vid that makes it mate, you can tell you put a lot of effort in and hopefully it helps folk with the great reviews. Regarding the sun glasses, I've walked around in the dark wearing mine without realising 🤣🤣🤣 (a few times!). Thanks for sharing, a superb little spot that. A big thumbs up from me. Atb mate
Cheers Dave and thanks for watching. I'm trying to improve the videos and I think it's worth the effort editing. I'm thinking of getting some Elton John style glasses for future trips to add some more glamour. It's a great little spot. Loved it. See you soon mate 👍
Great vid Paul! Love that area. I did Fleetwith pike last year( the peak just above your head 7 seconds in) some great pitches up there too. Defo going to try this one soon though 👍🏼
Well mate what a fantastic vid and you showed the area off nicely. Love the new tent too looked like a great bit of kit 👌. Loved the camera angles too especially the one from within the stove lol. Glad you enjoyed it and defo catch up soon. Take care Steve
Paul,if you look over to the otherside of Buttermere just above the tree line there is a fantastic tarn up there called Bleaberry Tarn it's a wild campers paradise,it sits below the High Stile/High Crag ridge with Red Pike just to the right of that, there's an easy path upto Bleaberry Tarn pretty much immediately to the right when you walk into the woodland through the gate from the path that walks past the Fish where you had a pint and from the tarn there is an easy enough path upto Red Pike via Dodd and from Red Pike you can then overlook Ennerdale Water as well as Buttermere,Crummock Water & Loweswater & the magnificent Ennerdale Valley, it's the jewel in the crown of the NW Lakes to many of us who live local. There's two YHA in the 6 1/2 mile stretch of the Ennerdale Valley with Black Sail YHA in the remotest part right underneath Haystacks (Wainwright's ashes are scattered there in Inominate Tarn) Green Gable,Great Gable & also Pillar tower over & surround the end of the valley & many use it as a base to save a long walk in before climbing those mountains..I think you would really enjoy setting up camp up at Bleaberry Tarn,a 45 mins walk from Buttermere or an hour max taking your time 😉
Great info on the Helm 2. I'm considering adding this to my collection. I don't do the backpacking thing, but I will do campsites with my tiny Caterham Seven (no boot). All my gear will be in the passenger seat area/footwell. I reckon it is a much better pack size & easier to manage, than my old Vango Spectre 300! Great vid again - cheers, Keith
Good stuff paul. I was up that way a couple of weeks back. Amazing views for little effort although that path up is steep. Luckily not too long. Some good info on your gear too. Nice video. Enjoyed it. Atb.
Cheers Andy. Sarah said you were waving at me Saturday night 😂. Not had chance to watch your video yet of Mellbreak. On my list for later. Its definitely worth the steep path and dropped lucky with the weather. ATB Paul
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video. I've just released another video this week up in the Peak District if that's something that you're interested in. All the best. Paul
Great stuff Paul , nice tent plenty of space and looks solid. Been doing that camp in same spot for years and seen some fantastic sunsets and sun risers. ATB Mac
Nice one Paul I had to have a look on my wild country tent to see if those outer skin adjusters were on my lil Coshee micro but they weren’t. I do like it but could do with investing in something I can sit up in 😕 it only weighs 1.4 kg though and is great at keeping you warm and cosy unlike some of my bivy adventures. Looking forward to the next one 😃👍
Hi Col. The Helm definitely has more space. the coshee is still a good bit of kit but not idea if you have to spend a lot of time in it out of the elements. My akto has height limitations too so the this tent will be getting more use. Best wishes
Another awesome video Paul. I've never seen those delta pegs before, you said they may be 'overkill' they do look strong but also look light weight too considering the traditional shepherd hook style. I've only ever use the pegs that come with a tent but seen a few styles now - would be good to know the difference, if you have time could possibly warrant a full video. Happy Trails Bro ✌
They are great pegs if you are expecting high winds. They just don't budge. Not the best for rocky ground though so I always tend to take a selection of different types.
Superb video. I loved the reviews of the gear very much. Nicely done and brilliant filming technique! That Adventure food seems just the job to avoid cleaning up. I need to look at Trail magazine and see ifthey are still doing that deal for subscribers! Nice to see Buttermere, Crummock water and Loweswater in the distance. Did a hike out to the latter in August (on my channel) and was lucky enough to see a paraglider dropping in as we started. Our club did a hike around Buttermere (I think) in the summer the year before too. Anyhow I subscribed to see more of these great videos as they appear. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Terry Many thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I don't think that offer is on at the moment but kepp looking as they have similar offers fromtime to time. Buttermere area is one of my favourites. Need another trip that way soon. I'll be sure to take my camera. Best wishes. paul
It is a great area. Look up the Ennerdale country house hotel for deals (that's what attracted us first!) and we found the staff to be lovely and really helpful. But if you are close enough you don't need accommodation. I love your channel. Nicely done.
Hi Paul, luv watching your vids and reviews, and you are the Man when it comes to Breakfast with a view.awesome when in such a beautiful surrounding alone is the time of a quick boil important. what about a review on Eco green cooking equipment etc.
16:37 if you're having problems with your sit mat try making a little hole in it and attach a leash to your belt with a lightweight non-climbing carabiner so it won't blow away. I have the reflexes of a cat so can catch my mat easily but I used to attach my snowboard (to my calf) in this way and this is an old technique borrowed from surfer dudes! lol Nice channel btw, I subbed, I'm a big fan of Terra Nova tents and their budget Wild Country brand are great quality starter tents. Very watchable video with just the right amount of talking in it. Well done! :-)
dear Paul Messner...Sir,great to see you! Please may I take a moment of your time to say that in your latest few camp outs there's something about you? I can't put my finger on what it is but you are shinning good vibes. Your appearance is decked out lavished in outdoors props that you need to see you through your nights. Top stove by the way. Your sleep pad looks great. Good tent to plenty room. Good show Paul Messner see you some more. From Craig Lee White.
The corner said: what's your favourite camp site? Answer: Its not my favourite but, one of my definite favourite camping sites has to be Applecross campsite in the North of Scotland! 🏴🏴
What a fab location. Your video angles are great, especially loved the view from inside the pot 😁 Have ya tried shoving the seat pad down you pants.... That way it doesn't fly away, when you stand up. Could set a trend. Cheers TurtleMumma 👣🐢🇦🇺
I never wild camped before alone or in group, fantastic views no doubt but my worry is having to eat that kind of processed meals in powder, bars etc I take my meals and ingredients very seriously so I would probably take too much weight with me with bread eggs olive oil etc but having a car parked somewhere near my camping spot makes all the difference I think - I could take more of my gourmet essentials with me ahah
I really like it. It weighs very little, fits anywhere and is sturdy enough to comfortably hold your hot drinks. Doesn't burn your hands when holding hot drinks. There's a link in the description where I got mine. Came next day. Cheers
Love the reviews you do Paul, that tent looks a solid bit of kit, views weren’t bad either ;-)

Thank you for the video. I like that you keep it simple and real.
Nice tent and stove
This was the first video that got me hooked on wild camping. Thank you Paul. I'll be going on my third wild camp with my mate next month on Dartmoor.
Really nicely shot Paul. I appreciate the effort you put in to tell the story. Looking forward to,the next one. 👍
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
How I remember your videos being. Was a good format.

Thanks for the kind words Terry. I'll check out the hotel. May somewhere to treat the mrs
Great vid on a reeeealy nice area!
Greetings from Central Switzerland🇨🇭

Nice spot that mate.weather played the game too👌
Thank you. Everything was perfect. Sometimes you get lucky that way .
Well done! :-)
i got to know you when i was looking for picnic videos.i watched your whole video,it's great,i hope you make a video about review backpack
dear Paul Messner...Sir,great to see you!
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video. Best wishes Paul
Completely agree, there’s a amazing peaceful vibe throughout your videos, You seem to capture the viewers full attention with very little effort.
The corner said: what's your favourite camp site?
Answer: Its not my favourite but, one of my definite favourite camping sites has to be Applecross campsite in the North of Scotland! 🏴🏴
Very much like my Vango Halo Pro 200, but lighter. As my primary use is motorcycle touring I went for the Vango, maybe next time.
The Halo is a big old tent, the 300 is enormous but too big to carry in a pack.
@@steviesteve750 Like I said I use it for moto camping..and it’s the 200.
What a fab location. Your video angles are great, especially loved the view from inside the pot 😁 Have ya tried shoving the seat pad down you pants.... That way it doesn't fly away, when you stand up. Could set a trend.
Cheers TurtleMumma 👣🐢🇦🇺
Beautiful spot looks amazing 😉
I never wild camped before alone or in group, fantastic views no doubt but my worry is having to eat that kind of processed meals in powder, bars etc I take my meals and ingredients very seriously so I would probably take too much weight with me with bread eggs olive oil etc but having a car parked somewhere near my camping spot makes all the difference I think - I could take more of my gourmet essentials with me ahah
I sometimes cook a meal from scratch so it can be done.
Cracking video looks like i missed your channel .so ive got some catching up to do
Great tent! Well suited for Cycling trips! It is a pity that it is expensive 😢
Great video. Really well put together and helpful. Have you ever had any issues with landowners, the general public when wild camping?
Awesome video mate .
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Love that Thai food 👌😋
Nice trip 👍
I enjoyed that thank you very much.
Thanks for watching
Great video Paul, snap with the trail subscription...lol
Cheers Mark. I'm impressed with the stove so far. You been out in the Akto yet?
Paul Messner no not had chance yet , I’m in lakes in a couple of weeks,so hopefully get a wild camp done .
Fabulous vid!
Great vid really enjoyed it. Nice tent may look into getting it. Have a banshee but I think I need something I can sit up in. Cheers
Thank Pilgrim. I really like it. In fact I'll probably be using it more than my Akto as I love having the extra space and headroom. Cheers
Great vid.
Not a bad view at all Paul. Good video again chap.
How did you get on with the mug? Thinking about getting one.
I really like it. It weighs very little, fits anywhere and is sturdy enough to comfortably hold your hot drinks. Doesn't burn your hands when holding hot drinks. There's a link in the description where I got mine. Came next day. Cheers
Cheers Paul.
