    Best review of this tent I've seen. Actually based on a year of real use. If you're just taking the tent out of the bag for the first time, it's a first impression, not a review! Then they pitch it badly, then criticise it based on their own bad pitch😂
    You've learned all the little tricks and techniques from actual use. Detailed and well informed, thanks a lot mate. I'm encouraged by this review to plump for the helm 2. Also subbed👍

    For those who wonder, I acctualy ask TerraNova about additional eyelets for poles.
    This is the official answer.
    "If a tent gets very wet, the fabric can stretch slightly and become a bit 'baggy.' In such cases, the inner eyelet is there to help you re-tension the flysheet. Under normal circumstances, you should use the outer eyelet for pitching the tent correctly."

    Thank you for a really professional review. I am so impressed, I have subscribed to your channel. I have been looking around for something to replace my ancient Ultra Quasar, and although not strictly 4 season, I feel this tent will tick a lot of the boxes. Yes, I know that it isn’t truly lightweight (but its much lighter than the Quasar), but for the cost, I feel that there simply isn’t anything out there that offers so much internal space, and with a very small pack size, and with very reasonable quality fabrics, polkas and pegs. Thank you Keith for a very informative review.

    Quality video all round and helped inform me buying my own Helm Compact 2. Did my first trial run last night and pitched it, I had a little bit of bother trying to fit it all back into its bag. @borderraiders  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Glad to find the vids been of help and ok sure we can consider knocking a short up for this. We’d recommend you take your tent, and fold it until you get a width that matches something similar to the width of the poles, you can even place the poles in the centre and roll from there to give you a tight roll. As the poles fit in the bag, this offers a good guide on the width you should be rolling the tent up at

    Just another feedback after using the tent, I used a piece of double sided tape at the mid point of the inner storage pocket, stops the sagging very nicely. I have also bought a spare set of poles, and I plan on trying the tent double poled, as you mentioned.

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah ok thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! We had some feedback stating the second eyelet is actually for a ground sheet, but do let us know if you manage to successfully double pole it! All the best - BR

      @stevec-b6214 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@borderraiders Hello again! I found it very easy to double up the blue pole in the same sleeve, and used the second eyelet as you showed. The second red pole was too tight in the same sleeve, but I laid it alongside and used cable ties to clamp the poles together. It was pretty windy, and the tent felt amazingly sturdy. I would now take the two extra poles if the forecast was for higher winds. (I also swear by delta pegs in windy conditions, especially if the ground is a bit soft)

    Great tents these, I have the one man version (plenty of room for just me) and it’s rock solid in high winds, I pitched it side on into the wind, which then picked up significantly to 40mph during the night, and it just shrugged it off with no fuss at all! 💪🏼
    Even my Helm Compact-1 will seem like a palace inside compared to the one I have just purchased, which is the Wild Country Coshee Micro.. I wanted something ultra low-profile and stealthy, for some of the camps I have planned this year.

      @@borderraiders They have been around for the last 8 years I think, I have brought the updated version, the V2.. It’s somewhere in between a bivvy and a tent is the Coshee Micro, you can’t sit up in it with an internal height of only 63cm. However it should be easier to get in/out of with all of one side opening up, didn’t fancy going down the hooped bivvy route where you have to wriggle to get in/out, they also look very claustrophobic to me, especially with most the material laying on your body while your in them!

    great review! I have bought this tent, and I am PICKY. the thing sometimes not mentioned is the pegs, they have an angled end which stops the guyline slipping off, not seen other tents with this feature. Some people really pull the zippers really fast and clumsily and snag them, just be a bit careful and they are fine (this applies to most tent zips)

    I wonder about the livability with two people in this thing - we got one because our tent broke during a hike in Scotland.
    It looks fine in the video, but I'm 178cm lying on a 10cm Mat and had the choice between touching the inner (actually outer) tent with my feet or having the inner tent hanging in my face.
    Outdoorsmagic tried out the 3 person tent and said that one would be great with 2 people. So I'd advise setting the tent up in the shop and trying it out with your own matresses.
    The shop kindly took it back and we got a Nemo Dagger 2 instead - way better livability.
    It's a decent tent I thought, but they should work on making it more livable, perhaps splitting the middle pole at the ends.

      @borderraiders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers mate 👍 if you plan on keeping the tent, making it the workhorse of you collection and using it in spring/autumn then yeah it makes sense. In our experience with groundsheets you aren’t really buying it to provide additional waterproofing, it’s to help with the longevity of the tent. It’s cheaper to replace a groundsheet than it is to buy new inner tent. All the best - BR

    I really like the look of this tent but at 6'4" I really struggle with feet/head touching the ends of most tents. On paper it looks like I would fit but seeing you lying down I'm not so sure. I also use quite a thick pad, it's the only issue I can see stopping me from pulling the trigger on it. Any thoughts?

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi and over 6ft on a thick pad, you may start to struggle. It could be worth checking out a few other tents in their range. Wild Country Panacea 2 looks very similar in terms of design but with a few tweaks. The walls at the end look like they rise alot steeper so you may find this would accommodate you better. All then best - BR

      Think we read the second eyelets are actually for the toggles on a ground sheet. That being said, we think it probably would be possible to double pole potentially. Needs someone with a helm to know someone else with a helm to test it with their poles also 😂 all the best - BR

    I have this tent and it's great. but I m also looking for smth lighter a

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We don’t have any personal experience with the tents you’ve mentioned. The Ordos is a fair bit lighter but is also inner pitch first I believe without the footprint, as to the strength we couldn’t speak to this. Same goes for the Vango. We have come across the zephyros in person and it does sit alot lower so does shed wind, naturally you sacrifice space. The thing about the Helm is that its virtually as good as it gets at that price point. Sure there are other tents out there that are stronger and lighter, but not for the price. If you want a strong lightweight tent, they often come with a price tag. All the best - BR

      Build quality for a start, it’s well made for a tent at this price. It also has 2 way zips which you find on more expensive tents. You also have a flysheet that comes virtually all the way to the ground. Again, normally found on higher end 4 season tents. All the best - BR

    would you recommend buying a footprint aswell? or do you think it'll be fine along as you make sure the ground is clear of anything sharp, thanks

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It functions fine without a footprint and the material is robust. It’s down to personal preference and the type of camping you do. If you are camping on wet, exposed ground then a footprint will help manage moisture, condensation and will extend the life of the groundsheet but weigh more. If you are camping in dry grassy conditions in the summer then it’s probably overkill. All the best - BR

    hello bro,just found your channel and obviously subscribed as I'm a fellow scouser. I bought the 4 season wild country blizzard 3. a 3 man tent weighing around 3kg for cooking indoors during winter. it's massive and really stable in high winds. my blizzard 3 has the 2 eyelets on pole attachment,I was told by someone that you can attach a footprint to the inner eyelet and pole on the outer eyelet but I think he's wrong, I think it's to make tent more sqaut so it performs better in adverse weather. cool review,do you know any quite places around the Peak District I could get too by train.take care bro,see you in next video.

Might look at getting the blizzard 2 for winter, some really good specs, feel like that’s gone unnoticed but looks perfect for the UK! In terms of the peaks mate we haven’t got a lot of experience around there, you obv have Kinder Scout which is a well known spot. Check out Patrick Dickinson, his channel is brilliant and he has a lot of camps in the peaks. All the best - BR

      The blizzard has the capability to take on year round weather unlike the helm. But the Helm is an unbelievable tent that just works so well from a practicality point of view, the headroom in it is a joy. As always it’s horses for courses and down to what you need from it. All the best - BR

    Hey! I bought the Helm Compact 2 and used it in the Alps last summer. The nights were around 10 degrees Celsius and every morning I had condense water on the inner side of the outer tent which has seemed to drop down from the top onto my sleeping bag. Not sure wether the top of my sleeping bag was wet from the dropped down water or from condensation of my body. Did you experience the same "issue" with your tent? Is that normal?

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hard one to know for certain because different environments/conditions can produce different levels of condensation. Our advice is that if it isn’t raining or ridiculously windy then always try and keep the door slightly zipped open somewhere, ideally a few inches each side to promote air circulation and help manage condensation. If you find you are too cold to do this, then it’s your sleep system that you need to look at, as it should still be able to keep you warm enough. All the best - BR

    • @janeeightfive7331
      @janeeightfive7331 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@borderraiders Hey! Thank you for replying so fast. I had the inner doors open to various degrees on different nights to see what would be best. I still had some condensation although it was less as when the inner doors were completely closed. Since I was on a camping sight, I didnt want others to look inside my tent while I sleep, so I kept the outer doors closed. I guess I'll have to keep them open to avoid condensation completely.

    Hi mate, I’m in 2 minds weather to get the Helm2 or pioneer2, I’ve seen lots of good reviews about both have you seen anything of the pioneer2 to do some sort of comparison? Tbh the only thing putting me of the helm is the sagging inner, have you found any mods for this?
    Thanks

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, I’ve never used a pioneer 2 unfortunately for a direct comparison. What I would say is first the inner on the helm isn’t something that should stop you buying this tent at all, it simply isn’t serious problem or one that you notice enough to put you off, so if this is your biggest concern, I’d buy it 100%. I’d also consider use and how many people will be in the tent. The helm 2 is a true 2 man tent, I think most reviews online tend to state it’s realistically a 1 man with plenty of room for kit. Like you I considered both of these tents before purchasing however, given the price and specs I personally don’t think you gain enough from upgrading to the pioneer to justify the price, I also think there are better tents at that price point, whereas the helm 2 is potentially the most competitively priced tent in its class.

    • @borderraiders
      @borderraiders  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problem, it’s a pleasure. I’m 5,11 and when I use the tent alone I’ll place my bed in the middle where the inner wall rises up the steepest. I’ve honestly never really noticed which suggests that it’s not been an issue for me. Obviously your height of your mat and sleeping bag size will impact this. As stated. In the centre of the tent I feel the wall rise up enough where you shouldn’t be experiencing that
