My tent was the Helm 1 Compact by Wild country, well impressed with this tent, it stood up no problems to heavy gusts and rain, totally water proof!
The panoramic photo's were taken with my Nikon D7500 DSLR with 50mm prime lens, all hand held in portrait mode and stitched together in Lightroom.
I have no idea how big the final file size was but it was big!
Other camera's used were Gopro Hero7 Black and Gopro Hero 10
Music used in this video is all from the TH-cam audio library:
Dramatic series theme by Freedom trail studio
Final Girl by Jeremy Blake
Earth Appears by Brian Bolger
Hologram by Bobby Richards
Brilliant Sandy.thoroughly enjoyed that but more so getting to spend some time with you again. A true gent. Thanks for taking the time to visit my part of the world. See you soon
This camp certainly didn't disappoint Paul, I enjoyed every minute of it. Fantastic. Thanks for showing me your neck of the woods. What a stunning place.
The company was alright too:) Beers are on me next time!
Get a room..you two...😊😂🤣🫡
You’ve brought so many smiles to my face over the years Sandy and have been a big inspiration to myself and many others. A true gentleman
Thanks Paul, Also have enjoyed your videos and reviews. Whenever I'm on the lookout for a new piece of kit I always do a search on your channel to see if it's there:)
This man sandy has helped me with depression I went and bought some camping gear so I'm gonna have my first solo camp this Friday so guys wish me luck , thanks sandy god bless ya
Good on you, get out, have fun, smile :)
Epic Sandy with your hips and legs the way forward for everyone as I am sure your in some pain but still out there doing it. I don't know that tent but it looks to do the job with severe weather thrown at it.
Keep in up Sandy even if your wife thinks your mad.
I came across your site via Paul's Sandy. I enjoy your presentation and choice of Cornish beer!
"There's a rock."
I don't know why, but the delivery of that line just killed me. 😂
Hahaa, it was funny, just came out of my mouth
15:40 “Moments like this are real treasures”. So are your videos, thank you so much for the time and work you put into recording these moments and sharing them with us. I’m subscribed to you and Paul so I’ll catch up with his podcast and video in due course. That little tent is proving good and sturdy.
👍🏻🙂
For the money the Helm is a great tent
Another great video Sandy. Great information and advice. Being ex-mil having a shelter is so moral boosting. Sound advice as always. Take care geez
Sandy, very impressed with your stamina.
Not sure if I could make that hike.
When you stood on that waterfall, worried that you may slip.
It was quite a drop.
Be careful sir !!!
Thanks Ben
Really love your videos, sandy, the more I watch them the more I love them. You are a great bloke sandy, thank you
That was great Sandy. Really enjoyable viewing. I think you captured the severity of the elements, and it felt like we were there with you braving the wind and rain. Many thanks.
It was pretty extreme! I would have liked to have seen a discussion between the 2, I guess the weather was put paid to that.
Sandy is my older brother.
So pleased you enjoyed your camp Sandy with Paul in the Peak District. Your video was excellent. Thank you and Stay Safe.
That was brilliant Sandy but I have sometimes wondered about you and now I know for sure you're bloody barmey. 😀
Hahaaa, yes I reckon there is a little "Crazy" in me:)
As your there drinking your beer, I went upstairs to switch on my electric blanket :) Warm n snug tonight!!
Yes, it sure is nice to be snug and warm in bed Colin:)
Sandy I've been waiting for a rainy camp. Another great video and good to see Paul again.

Enjoyed the video!
Yes I was aware of my mistake after I said it. I was "Illogical"
Hi Sandy, went to Kinder Downfall last Saturday 10th Nov for a one night wild camp . beautiful day, but Sunday was like yours wet windy and an icy tent. Great place, wonder full scenery.Hope you dropped into the Nags head for a pint and sausage and mash. Great video as always
Sausage and Mash sounds lovely but we ended up in the cafe. Maybe next time
Good Man, I was really hoping you would obey the 5 second rule and you did. Thumbs up! Great weather
A wild night indeed Sandy. It could have been worse, clear and much colder.
Great trip Sandy. You’re looking your fit old self again. The tent looked to hold up well- move over Hilleberg lol… Though I have an eye for the Hilleberg Soulo black, my Snugpak Bunker has always been a solid performer. Nothing tests kit like bad weather, but I like bad weather- nearly dozed off here listening to your rain!
Cheers mate. 👍🏻
Hi Nicholas, hope you are well. The Soulo is a solid tent but just ab bit too expensive for me, I would love one though. Maybe one day
That was some adventure Sandy and a good demonstration of your kit. Videos like yours must be a boon for equipment manufacturers where they get free publicity in fairly extreme conditions that show you can buy moderately priced kit to keep you safe and dry. They ought to send you a case of wine as a thank you. 🤩Regards Keith
That would be nice:) The Helm tent does represent good value
A very enjoyable watch Sandy. Especially from the comfort of my sofa. Im very impressed with your Helm1.
Not seen the hills around Edale since the camps in that farmers paddock that were very popular bro. Ya made a great video even though it was a tad stormy. Safe travels. Ken.
It is a great point you have highlighted. As an Aussie camper we do not have ready access to products like Durston - Ill have a look at doing an international order. I am a big believer in supporting the people that work hard to increase options for quality outdoor products, and the old say "you get what you pay for". It would be great if import tariffs could be applied to protect local product, but in the age of "order anything from anywhere" this is probably too hard. Great videos Ive been following your channel for a while.
Total respect my friend....never stop ❤️
Heyup Sandy😊. I'm with you on chucking the mackerel into your pot thingy😋😋. Great video and we still often revisit your west Highland way trilogy of films, magic. Your hexav4 tipi tent impressed so much that I bloody bought one myself. Magic😁👍🏼
Great adventure Sandy, can't beat a stormy night to centre the soul. Beautiful terrain and good beer too, atb. Harry
You guys are a great stay safe
Garry ,Raleigh Nc USA
Great time, you brought some Wessex weather with you as well!
We sure had some "Wessex weather" Scott :)
Fantastic tent i have the helm 2 for backpacking and 3 for my motorcycle trips.love them. great content lads
Great video Sandy, I bet your nose was cold, nice to see you on top form even in that weather 👏👋
Yes it was! Hahaa
Brilliant video of a fantastic looking camp, well done for putting up with mother nature, and staying up beat, I really like the helm tent and the other wild country tents, I've reviewed one the smaller tents and for the money it's fantastic. Looking forward to your next video, ta Stu.
Thanks Stu, I am very pleased with my Helm 1
Nice one Sandy I'll watch this during the evening
We will have to have a Dartmoor and or Brecon camp soon Tony
@@WiltshireMan absolutely 💯 ❤️
Welcome to Derbyshire!! Great video Sandy. An amalgamation of two of my favourite TH-cam r's. This area is right on my doorstep and is beautiful. It can be a steady walk out or a challenging night on the hills. Hope you enjoyed it and will visit again sometime. Cheers and keep safe pal.
I will definitely be back for more Andrew, what a lovely place:) I wish it was nearer
`with the tent door open I was beginning to get a bit chilly` - priceless! - then you open a nice cold can of beer. what thickness leather is your skin made of? I just bought a helm 2 compact, so this camp ticked all my boxes.
Hopefully Helm Tents give Paul and you a check for all the free advertising you’re giving them 😂 four season inners are awesome .. I did a temperature test on a cold weather trip I did and there was a 20F differential inside to outside (25F to 45F ) which made sleeping bearable with a 20 degree bag and a down blanket …. Awesome collaboration thanks for sharing 👍👍
Hey Sandy ,
wat een prachtig mens ben je toch ... super video weer !!! ik hoop dat jij weer genoten hebt ...
grtz. Janneman from Holland !!
That would drive me mad ! , but fair play to ya 👍
Great adventure again, must get myself out again…. Take care
Yes Widgy, get out there mate. I hope your keeping well
Brrrrrrrrrrr 🥶, well done to both of you, I feel like a frozen penguin 🐧 watching you both. 🥶 You need to come to The Longdendale Valley here in the summer ☀️ near me, fabulous video, 📷 with beautiful scenery. 🌳 🍃 🍂 🍁 Watch you don't have any falls today, Sandy. 😩 Look forward to your next one.❤
Glad to say Angela I didn't have a fall but did slip a few times:) I will have to do some research into the Longdendale valley, it sounds lovely
Excellent video again Sandy, enjoyed the watch.👍
Beautiful. Loved the 360.
Brilliant Sandy loved this.❤
Paul Messner our modern day Alfred Wainwright. What a good collaboration 👏
Paul is a good sort thats for sure
I'm impressed that you go outside for a call of nature in those conditions.
Thank you so much for all of your videos, inspiration and wisdom, Sandy. I've just bought the Helm Compact 1 and really maxed out my credit in the January sales. I have a 4-season 2-man that I love but it's bright red and this feels less conspicuous and lighter regarding my backpacking plans. ❤
Hi Gemma, You have made a wise purchase, for the money it is hard to beat a Helm 1 :)
@@WiltshireMan Thank you! Just accidentally bought a military tarp big enough to cover two tractors, so probably didn't need another tent! Ha ha! Looking forward to getting it. 🌳❤️🌳
Great Vid Sandy
Enjoyed that: W.M. in a Tent! But crikey, that little Helm 1 does the job - never heard anyone say anything otherwise, but it’s a little ‘coffin-like’ for my tastes. The upside of that, presumably, being that it heats up quickly. Looks like you and Mr. Messner need to do a Spring/Summer camp if you ever want to “have a chat”. (o: Thanks for bringing this to us.
Barry, you hit the nail on the head, it is small but it is also Warm!
Nice one WW.
Thanks Si, a visit to your neck of the woods is on the cards, how do you fancy making a starring roll?
The star will always be you Sandy, but I'm more than happy to appear in a film with the legend that is Wiltshire Man@@WiltshireMan
Hahaa well I don't know about that. I'll be intouch when the time is right:)@@rialobran
Sandy 🫶🏻 great video as usual buddy thanks for taking the time to spoil us ❤
No problem thanks mott👍
Great video Sandy the Helm compact one is a fantastic ten my favourite that i own and much cheaper than the Hilleberg my mate has the 2 man and its just a sturdy that weather was a good test but is it fun to be stuck in a tent for that many hours atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Jimmy I saw you pitching your Helm one when you got it, made me laugh:)
@@WiltshireMan 🤣🤣 that was a funny video
Very nice place and colors, here is still summer weather,we change climate conditions extremely fast.
Looked a great camp ! Good to see chief scout Messner getting you both down safely 💪👍🤠
The joys of Camping! 🤣
Loved it 😀
Love the sound of the rain on a tent 😊
Very enjoyable Sandy. Always good to see you team up with Paul. Glad the tents survived. 👍
Thanks Ken, it was a bit too windy for the drone though:)
Nice to see you up our part of the country often come here with my Himalayan it’s great to be out testing the elements great video Sandy
It's a beautiful part of the world thats for sure Chris
Brilliant video, thoroughly entertaining and informative as per usual. Thanks again.
Hi Sandy, good to see you out and Mandy, nice bike, i live in a town called Coleshill in Warwickshire, i believe there are three Coleshills in the Uk.
There is a Coleshill about 4 miles away from where I live, It's a small village. I have never been to the other places but I think the name goes back a long way
Sorry Sandy, I think I have replied to the wrong video, I thought it was the electric bike review I had replied to, that's why I mentioned I live in Coleshill cause you had ridden up that big hill in the Coleshill not far from you. 😊
Fabulous hike and campout Sandy. The weather was far from desirable but you guys were definitely well prepared for what it brings you. I'll bet that it was a very good feeling to get your shelters all set up so that you could just relax and let the weather play outside while you just sat and listened to the rain and wind pound the sides of your tents. A mesmerizing experience for certain. Thanks as always for the very entertaining and interesting video my friend. It is always very much appreciated. See you on the next one.
The weather was perfect Terry:)
@@WiltshireMan 🤣
good video m8
The peaks are my local hills and I like to go up for a walk when a storm is forecast. I'm glad you could experience Kinder in winter Sandy it's great pitting your knowledge and gear against nature.
You sure have some wonderful hills :)
Hi Sandy, good to see you flying the flag for us 61 year olds. I could do with Paul showing some more easily accessed wild spots, in the Peaks, for those in their seventh decade with osteoarthritis and more timber! That camp site at the end is more my cup of tea these days. 😂
I lack the timber fortunately but my biggest problem right now is my hip, it's wearing out......
Character building that one Sandy lad, welcome to the glorious bleak district, sorry you didn't get the views
What a lovely chap you are Sandy. You have a great channel. Keep trekking and was great seeing you with Paul🙏😇
Thanks Angela, I do try my best :)
You don’t have to try Sandy, you are naturally a good man. God bless you and keep safe🙏😇
@@WiltshireMan do you canoe? Weve just started and also wild camping Sandy. Im 60 next lol. After my cancer I just want to do what I never did when I was young! And Adrian was in Marines so he will keep me safe lol
I had a canoe a few years ago, a lovely Old town camper but had to sell it to make space in my workshop. Like you I have been through a major illness, I think this can drive some people on to achieve more things than they otherwise would have, thats been the case for me, you've got to live life and not be fearful of anything. Enjoy your canoeing, you will have a lovely time:)@@angelamccaw8656
@@WiltshireMan just wondered if you wanted to meet up late next spring as were in oxford and was going on the river there and wild camping I can send you fotos of us so you know were normal and not weird lol. It would be lovely for us both, me and Adrian to meet up n do a canoe camp for your channel. God bless you🙏❤️
Sorry to hear your new boots are not waterproof. Because I bought a pair also! Water proof for you for nearly 500 miles though maybe. I will switch to Armadillo boots at first of year. Best regards
Awesome vid sandy really enjoyed that one.
Thanks Gary, it was a really nice camp. I hope to visit the beacons soon:)
Great video mate keep them coming
Nice to see you and Paul good video looked very windy long you enjoy it that's the main thing but stay healthy and stay warm and stay safe one life enjoy blessed be
Thanks Francis:)
good vid on the channel of your camping trip with frends keep up the good vids thanks lee
This was super enjoyable, I had a giant smile the whole video. Your tent did very well on the exposed summit. It was a bit too noisy to sleep but that is half the FUN! Thanks for sharing.
When TWO GREATS from TH-cam come together you know you're not going to be disappointed and you didn't, great video guys, great advert for the gear you used all that was missing was a cameo appearance from Pat Dickinson.
Hahaa, it would have been great to get Pat in a video
Your only 2 miles from me here and close to the other jacobs ladder I told you about. Walk my dog there every day. Good video as usual.
Neil you are so fortunate to have this on your doorstep
Pinch myself every morning sandy.
Also wild country use to make tents close by in a village called tideswell
Hi Sandy cracking post. Thank you and I hope you enjoyed northern hospitality.
Good review on the compact 1. I did consider it for weight for both my cycling and walking treks but opted for the compact 2 as the little bit of extra weight the extra vestibule and internal space is far better and gives you you a bit more comfort to spread out. Plus I’m a tosser n turner in my sleep so I’d probably end up de-pegging the compact1 .
Keep posting Sandy …love watching your channel
Merry Christmas and look forward to more of your adventures
R
It was really great up there, the Helm2 is probably a better tent but the one thing for sure I found was that the one person tent did warm up OK which is a big bonus in cold weather
Very enjoyable watch WM. Good to see a bit of the peaks. 👍👌
Wrong time of year for up there but yous stuck it out well😊
I walk the pennine way in 1976 with my haven't been back since we had wainwrights Companion and my dad filled the daily log in the back make good reading
One of your best videos Sandy - there is nothing like experiencing the wild in a tent ⛺️ as long as it’s well set up - THANKYOU for sharing
As I mentioned on Paul's channel "my 2 favorite TH-camrs" been following you sandy since way back in the funky prepper days. Funky had life issues and stopped and you have grown from strength to strength fantastic!
Still enjoy my camping as much today as I did back then
Nice one my friend 👍
Absolutely spot on 🍻🕺🍻
Wow that area is even more stunning than around Salisbury and Wiltshire. Great video! Thanks from Texas!!
It may be wild weather Sandy but you love it.😊
Lovely video as always Sandy - you made the right decision, please look after yourself …you’re a national treasure to your subscribers. I’m looking forward to seeing you out and about on your new Titanium bike..great choice of frame material. 😀
Well pleased with the bike Andy
Maybe a walkie talkey in each tent so you could have a chat 😉
That would be a great idea, I have a couple here:)
Excellent video Sandy and loved the content. I will be back out wild camping in my Helm 1 compact this weekend hopefully for my channel.
The Helm is a great tent:) You'll be fine in that
Great to see ye camping together. I was expecting Patrick Dickinson show up. Keep up the great videos
Cool! Love a windy rainy camp too!
Lovely place, and your photo of the valley was incredible. Fancy pushing your mate over, just coz you usually end up in the dirt haha.... Sod going out in the cold, wind and rain...not for me these days! Made me cold just watching haha
Hahaa. Bry, if it's nice photo's you want just wait til the next video, I have a dog walk with photography, I think you will enjoy it.
Yes this was a chilly camp but once snuggled up it was great. I loved it:)
Exciting camp there. I've spent a fair bit of time in the Peak district in the past, lovely area but the rain comes at you like silver bullets.
Thanks for taking us along Sandy and Paul. This is what you call testing your bushcraft kit Amazing.
Excellent!
I've scaled Mam Tor 3 times and seen it in beautiful bright sunny weather, in windy grey mizzle like this, and plunged to barely 10 feet visibility in a thick pea souper. When you can actually see, the vistas are spectacular. Loved the video, so much wisdom imparted, this was a real treat, thanks Sandy 🙂
Have the Oex evo 200 and 400 . Brilliant bags . Also work with the helm 2 and on solo camps my sc1 .
The OEX sleeping bags are great value Dave and your Helm tent is unlikely to fail provided you pitch it well and in a good spot
Just watched Mr. Messner's peak district wild camp vid.....then I saw your very same vid, brilliant both of em.....
'Ull' East yorkshire.
Both of you are inspirational, great vid.
Fantastic video this one, I had been look forward to this one. Pleased to report that you wouldn’t have caught me up there in those conditions. I did have a little chuckle to myself as Paul’s very expensive tent looked like a dying pregnant cow on its last knockings thrashing about. My hat goes off to you both, for what you do to bring us this great content. Cheers to you both 🍻
The conditions were Ruff Andy. I had a ball:)
I know which tent I would prefer to be in. That Hilliberg was flapping like a headless chicken!😂
It was a very flappy tent but is built from stronger materials than mine, Still think I preferred the Helm
💢🤟
Enjoyed every minute of the video, that was a very hard camp, you did very well to film it in those harsh conditions, welcome to Yorkshire 🤣🤣🤣. I am subscribed to Paul, so looking forward to his video as well.
Well done, Sandy.
