  • Here is my review of the awesome Wild Country Helm Compact 2 tent. The Wild Country Helm 2 tent is a well made, really well thought out tent. The Helm 2 is a proper 2 person tent with lots of space inside. Wild Country make some great camping gear, it's cheaper backpacking gear than the sister company Terra Nova.

    This is what they say:
Winner of the Trail Magazine Best Value Award 2021 & 2022, the Helm Compact 2 is a well-proportioned, free-standing 2-person dome tent. It’s perfect for those looking for a little more space but with a compact pack size for easy carrying.
The Helm Compact 2’s small pack size of only 32cm x 17cm makes it easy and versatile for compact packing. This 2-person dome tent is a good choice for medium-duration backpacking trips where more space is preferred.
Trail Magazine Best Value Award August 2021 & 2022 - ‘Sturdy, practical and well priced, this is an excellent tent for wild camping in the UK hills’.
Plenty of headroom in the inner, suitable for the taller person.
Includes two decent-sized porches for storing gear.
    Suitable for 3 season camping.
The dome design provides more stability than a single-pole tent.
Quick and easy to erect, the flysheet and inner pitch together.
Includes a mesh panel on both inner doors to provide plenty of ventilation.
Comes with a side-opening, tarp-style tent bag which makes it easier to pack away.
A good choice for backpackers and campers looking for a roomy 2 person tent suitable for campsite stays and wild camping.
We recommend using a footprint that sits under the groundsheet and porch area to help prolong the life of your tent.

Fantastic tent, took this backpacking in Kyrgyzstan and it stood up to thunderstorms, rain and very strong winds and it still looks brand new! The compact size leaves so much space in my pack. Although slightly heavier, the added durability gives me a lot of confidence. My only criticisms are that the vestibules are a bit small and the inner droops a little more than I would like. Otherwise its a great little tent.

Hi Andy, great review as always, thanks.
Between my brother, dad and myself I got one of these for Christmas on a Black Friday 30% off sale. Unfortunately your discount code doesn’t work on already discounted prices. However, I have ordered a footprint and extra pegs using your code 👍 thanks.
I have been looking for a 3/4 season tent for a while and decided this to be great for me. I looked at southern cross 2 but couldn’t justify the price and people still having a few issues. Also looked at pioneer but wanted the 2 doors. Flallraven abisko lite 2 was an option but again I don’t have the budget at the moment.
Looking forward to using this really soon on Dartmoor and SWCP. Unfortunately the weather down here is a bit crazy at the moment.
    Thanks again 👍👍

Nice review, just bought this tent after yours and may others positive comments. Btw - I always extend the guys as long as possible rather than short as you did here, but this is only a demo pitch, so no criticism here, this applies to all tents, use all the length if poss. to give a shallow angle to the ground for more pull-out resistance, (mine hasn`t even arrived yet, and i am expert already;) I have been using low profile `mountain` tents all my life, and now looking forward to some roomy comfort for a change, yet it still seems very strong.

I've been on a lookout for a compact packing tent for my bikepacking trips where the size is even more crucial. But every time I find something, it turns out that my trusty Naturehike Tagar with it's 44x10cm pack size is somehow still unbeaten. It has a lot of faults, but for a 2.5 season bikepacking around Scotland it's been doing great so far!

@@BackpackingUK Being only 5'6 in height, I have so much room, it's palatial, and I know its a little more weight to carry, but I have just accepted this, due to the strong design and huge amount of space. I always get a really good sleep inside this tent.
It feels very safe inside when windy and rainy & withstands the bad weather really well, and I am sure it has some insulating properties due to its material? and the fact that the flysheet comes down so low, and also due to the inner tent mostly being a very good material and with only a small amount of mesh on the doors for ventilation.
      Superb tent : )

I just bought the Helm 2 compact for £225 and was wondering how it is folded up after taking it down as my old Vango tent I folded in half lengthways so the underside of the ground sheet didn’t touch the tent material and get it dirty, then I wiped it with a tea towel and rolled it wiping it as I rolled because sometimes the ground was a bit dirty or wet, I see the Helm would have to be done differently as the pack size is more square shaped than my old Vango which was packed up long and thin, I haven’t seen many videos of how it is done, maybe be a good video to make
