      Don’t be so naive. There may be individuals there who follow social media Chanel’s, but they got exactly what they set out for and that’s free advertising to 150k subs for the price of £100 tent. You do the maths.

      @@smokinrider If he recommended a poor tent to 150k subs, many of us went out and bought it and it proved to be a poor tent then he would no longer have 150k subs. In my opinion the guy gives honest feedback on products. I suppose there is a fine line between nativity and trust, for me I choose trust until I have been given a reason not to

    • @freddiemercerful
      @freddiemercerful 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@smokinridernot really and either or situation, I am sure Paul has both a friendship and a professional relationship with lots of manufacturers. They probably did want to help him out and he is helping them out as well. I don't believe he would recommend a bad tent to earn a few quid. He's genuinely passionate about this tent or he's a very good actor. Anyway everyone attests to the value for money of this tent, its got a load of features for a 500 quid plus tent at less than half that price. Can't wait to try mine out!

    Another great video Paul, thank you. I train our local scouts in hillwalking and for an expedition on Dartmoor each year in May so they’re training on the moor in March and April and we use the Helm Three which is a great tent and has kept them warm in sub zero conditions. Good to see you back. Enjoy your trip with the Helm One which looks like a great one person tent.

    Helm 1 is a bomb proof tent
    I spent 6 weeks in it in Cornwall and the Lakes, when I retired a couple of years ago
    It handled some very rough weather in some very tough conditions and came thru like a champ
    It has a remarkable amount of space both height for sitting up, room inside for gear, the small wet vestibule and the door vestibule for a pack and cooking
    I use the footprint as the extra ground coverage significantly reduces condensation from the rising damp
    I also fold the tent when wet with the footprint on the outside and the tent and inner stays dry
    I highly recommend this tent
    I now only use it for car camping because I cannot manage the 2 kg weight and have gone on to the Lanshans as 1 kg tents, which are no where near as robust

    • @hnahler
      @hnahler ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the Lanshans are light but not sturdy. You have to find a sheltered place and check the weather forecast for wind directions. And you need good earplugs.

    I've been watching your videos and they've given me all the information I needed to go out on my first wild camp, so thanks very much Paul. Your advice and guidance has been first class! However, I decided to buy the new Wild Country Trident 2 as my first tent. It was a bit of a leap as there are no videos of it being used. I'ts brillant, easy to setup, perhaps a little heavy but it is a 2 man tent and it works really well when the wind picks up. It's great to hear that Terra Nova are looking after you and helping out.

    I can totally recommend the Helm 1 and 2 for activities like DofE and Ten Tors. We use them for all levels of expeds and they are a really good combination of weight, size, access, stability and price. Not too much volume that 2 smaller people are cold, but quite comfortable for gangly teenagers! As you demonstrated - very easy to put up, even for inexperienced campers. Stick to the ground like limpets in most gusts- at least the sort we would come across in wild and non-wild country in the SW. Many thanks for your thorough review- they certainly get a thumbs up from me!

    Hi Paul, just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation. I went looking around the local camping stores for various tents people recommended and you were right, the Helm 2 Compact turned out to be the best one for a noobie. I managed to get it on offer, it had a slightly bent pole which does not effect the tent at all and can be replaced for a moderate fee. So no big deal and saved me over 120%. But yet, its a very nice tent. I will be following your channel for other tips in the future, in the mean time, happy camping bud and thanks again. :)

    I bought this tent thanks to your recommendation(s) and have had it since December '22. Got it after my cheap Shadow 250 tent broke to pieces on a mountain due to a bit of a snow storm (not forecast). The only reason I'm back to this vid is because I am obsessed with it! (I ended up buying a second one in case they discontinue them!!) Every time I use it I love it more, I let my friends borrow them and every single person that used it also commented on how great it is (even non-campers!). As people have said, it's bomb proof (I can almost lean my entire body weight on it when pitched properly), SUPER easy to pitch (AND easy to pitch WELL), light weight and packs TINY. Both tents have had 30+ nights in them and they're as good as new. Never leaked and condensation is very rare and only really happens on particularly warm and humid days when the temperatures drop a lot at night. Best tent ever. So yeah, thanks so much Paul!!!

    Bought this tent last winter, been using it on a few one-nighters and recently on a 8 day hike in the mountains in the north of Sweden. The Helm Compact 1 always felt solid, even having it set up exposed in a rainstorm. However I sold mine to a friend because I felt like it was a bit too small for me. I'm about 186cm tall, sleeping on a Trekology UL80 sleepingpad, and I couldn't sleep flat on my back without my feet touching the inner. Easy pitching, good value for money, just need to find something similar but longer.

    Nearly fell off my perch when you said 1,9kg Paul! 4pounds 5 ounces for a 1bed rag-shack?! Ye gods I thought ! What are Terra Nova thinking ? Then I thought £150. 00. for a tough as old boots winter storm fort is a darn good deal. It probably has a few drawbacks and compromises in the design, but what tent doesn't? And if its still stands unshredded after a few winter hoolies it's going to get my vote when I shop for a new winter shelter.
    So, another good video Paul, keep em coming son, always a pleasure to be able to listen to solid info in plain-speak, and you deliver it well. Hang in there buddy, atb to you.

    I've had a Quasar from Wild Country since 1992 and it's still going strong! Bit heavy by today's standards but it has coped flawlessly in all weathers including very heavy snow....

    Great to see this review of a quality tent that doesn't break the bank. Yes, it's not the lightest due to polyester rather than sil-nylon but sturdy. I have a Lanshan 1 Pro which I hardly use. It's a comparable price and size at less than half the weight. Condensation is a pain unless you go out on a dry summer night. Wind noise and buffeting is unbearable unless you have the best of earplugs. And above 30mph winds I really don't want to be in it. This Helm 1 would be the tent from October to April. The Lanshan then for summer.

    I take 4 extra pegs that are the round style and put them in the eyelets where the poles go, I find this makes it even more stable, poles don't bounce in really windy conditions.

    My wife & I have a Helm 1 each and we loved them so much we bought a Helm 3 for when we like to share tents. We’ve slept out in freezing temperatures and some blustery conditions and neither tent has ever let us down. My only gripe is that the straps On the Helm 3 bag ripped the bag material the first time I used it. I’ve repaired it with tape and it’s ok but it was a tad disappointing.

    Thanks Paul - bought the tent. Might be a bit on the heavy side for my Jogel self-supported run coming up so still considering (I’m 6’5 - so wanted some room). Best wishes Ade
