  • One of the more hyped concealers here in the online beauty community has been, since its release, this one from e.l.f.! So hyped that I've had a terribly tough time getting ahold of it myself. Now that I have it though I'm excited to put it to the test on my oily skin (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

    RANDOM: I'd love to see you do a "I did my makeup in a way i NEVER do," where you change up how you do your makeup. Colorful eyeshadow, heavy coverage, hilighted and countered to the gods, and eyebrows done by the measurement system ( using the and pupil and mark 3 points from inner corner, outer edge of pupil for th brow arch, and then the outer corner for the point all using your outer nostril as a reference point.
    I THINK YOUR MAKEUP IS BEAUTIFUL, but would love to see more gimmicky things.

    I have this concealer and LOVE IT. I found that it dries super fast like you said and that's the biggest con. But I'll deal with it considering its only $5 a tube. The coverage is amazing. I've had $12 concealer that didn't come close. The trick is to use a brush (not a damp sponge), avoid applying too much product, and not dab around your face as you would a normal concealer. I do one under eye at a time for example instead of dotting around both at the same time. It helps tremendously. The finish is perfect if you follow this method

    Why not try putting concealer on top of your foundation? Putting it on first and then putting liquid foundation on top is going to move it around and not let it set properly. I think your makeup application would look and last a lot better if you tried this...

    • @jordynradziewicz1187
      @jordynradziewicz1187 5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Tiffany Wilks, she prefers it because it gives a less harsh/more natural appearance. Even when she used the first shade that was too light, she mentioned she’s glad she does concealer first so the foundation helps even it out a bit.
      Even Scott Barnes (JLo’s makeup artist) does concealer and contour first. It’s all about preference and I really don’t think the order she does it in is going to make it look and last better

    • @abigailpena5950
      @abigailpena5950 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried that, but it looks SO separate and weird, so I experimented and now I do it under my foundation cuz it blends in without the weird layering, and since it's hard for me to find my shade it's a little more forgiving if I get the wrong shade...

    You should check out a video by Lisa Eldridge, it’s about covering blemishes and the importance of using the right concealer colour. When you use such a light shade it only highlights them and it seems like you always try shades that are way too light for your skin tone.

    • @LeisureReader
      @LeisureReader 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      That AND only using the bare minimum amount of product to even out your face and not caking on foundation!

    • @bethmccall7581
      @bethmccall7581 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      ShariSez1 It’s more the information on which colours to use that would be useful, regardless of what age.

    • @theMoporter
      @theMoporter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @ShariSez1 She's 40, and she's a PROFESSIONAL, she doesn't just work on herself. You think you know how to do Dua Lipa's Met Gala makeup better than her? Lol

    • @bethmccall7581
      @bethmccall7581 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      ShariSez1 I’m not talking about colour preference(or eye shadow at all), I’m talking about the colour that should be used for your skin tone regardless for what that is. Cassie is using a concealer that is way too light, she might be able to get by using it under her eyes as that’s an area that you’d want to be bright and highlighted. But using such a light concealer on blemishes does the exact same thing; brightens and highlights them. If you use a concealer that is closer to your natural skin tone, again regardless of what that shade is, it will blend in with the rest of your face and/or foundation.

    I find that using the doe foot on blemishes, esp healing ones that have the scab, plops way too much product on. I use a teensy 1/8" angled paintbrush from Michael's (craft store) to apply the tiniest amount of product, just on the redness of the blemish. Once you pat it in gently to blend, it's plenty to conceal the color since you can't conceal out the 3Dness of the blemish and then set lightly w powder--just a quick dusting so it doesn't get cakey. :)

    • @annah201

      Right, I just put a swipe on the back of my hand and then take a tiny amount on the tip of my finger and dab it. Prefer not putting the wand directly onto blemishes as well for hygiene.

      Thrift Thick I feel like something that’s made a huge difference in my skin is the amount of moisturization. I used to have realllllly oily skin and I initially thought drying products helped with the acne but that didn’t solve the problem. What really helped was slathering a tonnnn of lotion at night and it has since reduced my oil production by a lot. I also think blotting doesn’t help with this. The oil overproduction is definitely expedited by removal of said oil. The texture of my skin used to have dry flaky patches like your acne spots but now they’re much smoother when I break out

Im not acne prone but i do have scarring from an extreme case of chicken box in my teens. Its really helped to calm my discoloration and even out my chin with the rest of my poor face. Overall i feel so much better over all.

    i did the exact same thing, i bought the concealer, in fair beige and it’s just WHITE on my skin, idk whether they did that on purpose, but i use the concealer underneath my jeffree star or glossier concealer and it works really well to cover my eye bags.
    edit!
    i just remembered that this concealer a little goes a long way, i use the tiniest dot and it works so well for me. i have normal skin with occasional dry patches and oil patches (depending on my cycle)

    Thanks so much for reviewing this concealer, Cassie, as I've been curious about it. Even though I have combo-oily skin, I'm concerned that this might be a bit too drying for me. A concealer I've been enjoying a lot that I don't hear much about from TH-camrs is the Milani Conceal + Perfect Concealer. I decided to try it because of a good review from RisaDoesMakeup, & I'm so glad I did. I have bad undereye circles & needed something with better coverage that wouldn't be too drying. So far, it has worked wonderfully, but a little definitely goes a long way. About 2-3 dots per eye does it. For me, it's worth the few extra dollars. (I bought it online using a coupon code.) 😊

I have used estee lauders double wear concealer for years and I love it. It's super moisturizing and it covers well without looking cakey. I use a brush to apply mine. Then I use a firm brush to buff it in. I only use where I have problems and don't even use foundation on top. I think it looks great. I'm also 55 and it makes my skin look flawless.

    I'm a couple shades lighter than you and bought the same shade of the Camo concealer, and you're not joking; it's white! I've been using it on under eye only, and under my foundation. It works well for that! However, I think it would just end up highlighting blemishes. I'm not wild about how dry it is, though; I would not call it creamy. It barely even feels like a liquid to me! I also find it hard to blend out since it seems to want to stick right where it's placed.

    I did the same thing as you. Ended up with two white concealers after ordering on line. I thought the 16HR Camo Concealer was a complete load of rubbish. The elf Flawless Concealers seem to have the same shade names, but are not the same shades. The're not quite as pale anyway. Much Better then the 16HR Camo, but still not great. They are sort of shiny. kind of like if you were to mix a bit of face oil into the Camo. So far, the only concealer I've found that I really like is the Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Eraser Concealer in Fair.

  • @gracesinclair2056

    i have this concealer in fair beige and it works great for my skin! you explained how the concealer works with a sponge applicator well, but i've found it looks best on my skin when i use a full size sponge (i have the dark pink elf one) and really work it into the skin. i also use the flat side of the sponge and tap in powder in places i get super oily until it's basically worked into my skin and it really cuts down in creasing for me.
    as far as the change in shade as it dries down, elf has wet and dry swatches on their website :) they also have a feature where you can enter the names of concealers and foundations that you already know work for you and they will recommend a shade informed on all of the inputs you give it.
    sorry for the really wordy comment but just wanted to put that out there, love you and your videos Cassie!

    all were too fair and i am really fair, generally use one of the lightest shades available. shockingly Light Peach was a match to my skin tone. i find using like one-two dots works best on me especially for the undereyes. using either a sponge or my fingers as i have dry skin makes it look nice. i do like it but not sure if its my favourite yet, definitely looks better then some of the concealers ive tried. i havent found a holy grail concealer yet as i cant find one that looks good all day on me but i do like elfs Complete Coverage Concealer Palette but its only medium-light coverage on me as i have naturally dark undereyes

    That's a no for me. My favorites are flower beauty and it cosmetics bye bye under eye. I guess I like more emollient concealers. Even though I have very oily skin, they just look better and dont do that crusty thing dryer concealers always seem to do.

  • @tellittomyfryingpan
    @tellittomyfryingpan 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Silly, but I am relieved to not be the only one who had issues with this concealer... e.l.f. is amazeballs, but if you break down the pricing for the amount, it would have to be incredible to beat other drugstore/affordable options. And tbh, I have semi-sensitive and combo skin, and never got this to work. It also sat for a week after testing and separated...which seems odd for something new, but it may just be temperamental. Either way, it broke me out...and I can't name a single concealer, even from e.l.f., that has done that before. Like, the horrible cyst acne I haven't had in years, along with milia under my eyes.
    If you aren't sensitive, it might hold up to some oil and be a dupe for Shape Tape for you, but I personally am not a fan of ST's dry texture anyway. If you have lines, pores or any kind of texture, it isn't worth the risk and work it would take to maybe fix this...believe me.
    Be a wary bear about amounts/price, too, in your analysis to purchase...you can get a concealer that will go longer with less product, and it will cost less per ounce. That large packaging is a bit sneaky. 😉

    • @dangerbirb4981
      @dangerbirb4981 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wet n Wild Photofocus concealer is actually a pretty good dupe for Shape Tape. It just has a terrible wand that doesn't pull any product out of the tube. But I was a long time user of Shape Tape and I feel like WnW is the closest thing.
