  • When this primer from e.l.f. first launched, TH-camrs far and wide sang its praises and thus made it impossible for me to get my hands on to test for myself. With its recent restocking though, I finally nabbed a pot; let's see how it performs on my oily skin (*•̀ᴗ•́*)و ̑̑

I have dry dehydrated skin and found this primer to be fantastic. It kept me feeling nourished and hydrated and like others have said I found that whipping the product up on the back of my hand and pressing it into the skin was the best application. Also it does need to rest for 10 minutes or so before adding foundation. Try it again honey, use a few different methods, this is one of those products that when you find the perfect application for you, it's a game changer. Thank you so much for the video Cassie, you work so hard and it doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. Lots of love to you and your furboys 🖤🐾🖤🐾🖤 xxx

Am I the only one who saw a difference between the primed and not primed side. Even on the lids :(
I thought the not primed creased more and was more oily overall.
Also upon foundation application on the not primed side a beauty blender was used first than the brush where-as the primed side a brush was used first than a beauty blender.. it also looked like it was much more sheer on the un primed side and much more full coverage on the primed 🤷🏻‍♀️ Maybe Im wrong. But I think it made a difference.

I was thinking of writing the exact same comment. I have really dry but acne prone skin and typically pore filling primers can just clog up my skin and overall leave me feeling a bit too matte for my liking. This one I really like just used in sparse areas like around my nose and tip of my forehead and really pressing it into the skin while keeping the rest really dewy. There’s something for everyone though that is the magic of makeup ✨

Pore fillers won't work for long on very oily skin because they get popped out of the pores by the sweat and oil. This is why I say change your techniques to minimize pores and then you won't have to worry about them 10 hours later. :-)

Squalene is part of the skin’s own natural moisture which helps prevent ongoing hydration loss. We all will make less of it as we age, unfortunately. Squalane is a hydrocarbon derived by the hydrogenation of Squalene. As a result, it no longer oxidizes, so it is a much more stable product. Currently, It is more often derived from a plant source, such as from olives, and sugarcane, rather than from shark liver. I haven't found this e.l.f. Primer, either locally, or online, to date. I do use, and like the Tatcha primer, so I still would like to try e.l.f.'s supposed 'dupe' to see how it works for me, and if it is a more affordable option. I have normal skin that is becoming drier, and in its fifty-ninth year! The Tatcha primer blurs the larger pores on my nose, and it enhances the look of my foundation, similar to what I saw the e.l.f. primer do for you. I do think it may allow a longer wear of my foundation, also. If this type of primer works, it works well, but like anything, it won't perform equally for everyone. In that sense, this e.l.f. Primer allows additional make up wearers the option of trying this similar primer type with a more affordable product (if available, that is!). If it is beneficial, one can then choose which price point is personally preferable, ultimately. It offers this type of primer to a greater number, as well, by providing it to those who are restricted from using Tatcha's version related to either its price, or its limited retail availability. There's nothing wrong with that! Thanks for sharing your experience with it, Cassie! Hugs, Sherrey🎀

I have really oily skin and what worked for me was warming it up in the container, applying it all over my face including my eyelids, and I still went in with my Milani eye primer on top. It extended the wear of the eye primer, minimized my pores, and made my foundation look airbrushed!! 🙌🏻 I was still a bit oily but overall I loved this primer

Your music is SO soooothing! ☺️ that aside I WISH I had found your review BEFORE I bought this darned stuff. EVERYONE kept comparing it to Tatcha Silk Canvas so of course I had to try it.....🎣🎣🎣
Well it didnt work out for me. Did nothing, except add another layer 🤨
It's so cheap I didnt wanna return it to Ulta but I should considering how ineffective it is. Iam a basket of fries kinda greasy so as SOON as I felt it I knew it would be a mess in 2 hours. So not wanting to waste it has made me use it on my neck and chest instead. I will do this till it's gone and be done with it.
P.S: The stuff I love is the one most seem to hate and that's the NYX Cant Stop, Wont Stop Primer. I rub that stuff on with NO problems that others are talking about and only on my greasy cheeks, nose and forehead and the rest gets the Tarte Clean Slate Timeless smoothing primer. Both work well for me, but as I said, Iam crisco greasy and live in a sauna in the tropics in the upper 80's.

We have similar skin. When you apply foundation with a brush or sponge you tend to wipe it on. You might try loading the sponge with a thin layer and then pressing it in starting in the center of your face. Stop wiping and press instead. You will get more even and longer lasting coverage. Press in powder too.

I wait like 2-5 minutes and then I use the Wet N Wild Photo Focus stick foundation over it & just use some basic colorless powder over it. I also just blot the powder with my brush. I also keep a small powder brush that I use with my compact powder to touchup throughout the day if I need a touch up, this is after I use blotting paper (if I’m oily throughout the day.

I thought the elf primer side looked a lot nicer and the makeup held up better. Without it, you saw more patchiness and dry flakes. I personally like the elf primer and it does what it says. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s greasy at all like a silicone primer. That gives the impression it’s slick and your makeup will move around and melt off, which isn’t at all the case with the Elf Putty Primer. I’m anxious to try their Jelly Pop Primer next.

I wouldn't mind trying it out since it looked pretty nice on your skin, and the price is cheap. You should try and use it more this month and come back and talk about it some more in your best and worst of beauty. At one point I had really oily skin like you, but I'm now 30 and take a few different medications that have changed my skin type to dry. The only primer that I've tried, and really love is the Maybelline prime and smooth, and it's basically like a thick moisturizer that doesn't feel heavy on the skin. I think a lot of the bigger "influencers" on this platform hype things up WAY too much. The way some of them talk about products, it seems like they're being paid to say it's amazing, and it's just like another really expensive item.

So this is very similar to the tarte smoothing timeless primer (it’s mostly used to create a smooth surface, while making your face matte) it’s actually a perfect dupe for this! (Elf has sooo many dupes which is why I love the brand). I think you need to know this.
Primer needs to be teamed up with a good foundation. No primer is really going to make your foundation have super lasting power unless it has a sticky type of surface. This primer you should really put on areas that you want to look smooth (under eyes, places on forehead, etc, and if you want to put this on your oily spots then please put a stickier primer on top, thin layers of course.) so what I want to say, is this primer is great if you use it for what’s it’s realistically intended for. These mattifying primers of course does best with matte foundations lol......... many people often find amazing primers and wonder why they don’t work...... 1. Use it for what it’s intended for 2. You need to team it up with a good foundation
For your oily skin I really suggest using an airbrush system. It really works wonders I’m telling
You it’s all beauty artists secret❤️❤️❤️
But love your review. Thanks for reminding me about this hidden gem!

    • @StephieGsrEvolution
      @StephieGsrEvolution 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes! I think it's waaay more a dupe for the Tarte Timeless than the Tatcha. And you're also right about which foundations to pair with what primers.

I have oily skin. I apply The Ordinary's Niacinamide serum under my moisturizer and it really stops a ton of oil production. For this primer, I dig out a pea-sized bump with my thumbnail (I flick my thumb away so it's on top of my thumbnail). I smooth that amount over my face. I use it under Maybelline Fit Me foundation. I don't look oily. It's an excellent combination IMO.

it must be more suited for dry skin. I have dry skin and I swear by this primer. I did half my face with tatcha and the other half with the elf and honestly my pores were more blurred with the elf. it makes any fine lines smooth out also and lasts all day. So I think maybe people with oily skin will not like it because maybe it wears off quicker. Not sure. pretty crazy first negative thing ive heard about it.

The crusted, dry pimple areas- how can you/we make those NOT show (as my 1-2 monthly period pimples are exactly like all the ones you have)? I see alotta people that do makeup vids & wonder how to even out/smooth over those areas so it doesn't look like how yours (mine) ended up looking- like Obvious, Crusted, Dried acne scabs. Is this how you pretty much always end up for your foundation look or do you normally have a way to fully conceal them so they do not draw the eye to them?
