      TheZallene hey man it's cool.your not the only one who thought the design was ugly. I thought that when the superbike debut. But over time you get used to it. Even now these designs are becoming fashion. Like the ktm range, the mt-10 and these bimmers haha

      I hated it at first but It's really grown on me, I love the look of BMW's. I love even more that you can tell straight away without a doubt by looking at the headlights It's a BMW.

    Picked one up today, had to ride 100 miles down three motorways and bloody hell this thing shifts, feels light, and manoeuvrable, makes a lovely noise changing down low speed, got to learn how to ride this baby properly !

    Hey +Themissendenflyer I loved the bmw range and the s1000r but I have never seen one. Your helmet camera and audios are awesome but your close up on the phone camera did it for me. I can go on about the texture and clarity of the picture but I'll end with the conclusion. Your vid allowed me to eliminate the other competitor bikes easily which I've been somewhat struggling with and I've done the research on those others. Thank you very much and now ive enabled your channel to pop up on my notifications. Keep it up man your honesty and view points are great.

    Incredible bikes available nowadays. It's always fun when you ride through towns and then in the open; the routes you choose through your reviews are interesting to watch from abroad in addition to the thoughts. I love your walkarounds with the details, I often open a tab and read up as you comment (pausing your commentary so I don't miss the details you point out). I got a massive chuckle when you bonked your head not just once but twice on your walkaround on this video. !!! On this bike, I love everything BUT the BMW headlights for the exact reason you note, just doesn't appeal to my aesthetic sense.

    Hello again! I have 2015 R and I love it to bits. Took her last year to Corsica via route de Grande Alpes. No problem at all touring on it. On way back spent 930km in saddle, felt it of course but it wasn't bad honestly. you need to refuel her every 130mls so 20 mins stops helped recover from sore bum, but you get one after day worth of riding on any bike. Changes in 2017 model wouldn't tempt me to swap as they are marginal compared to bike as a whole. Nice review as always!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice one Pawel, and yes these are in my book fairly minor changes over last years model....I wouldn't trade up either - awesome bike...

    Mines a satin Blue 14 plate nearly 7k on it had it a month only, I seriously believe in the naked class it is the best in the world.
    cyclops front lights in my opinion are a style genius how many bikes can you identify from afar ? Virtually none, this one you know it’s coming toward you, great idea we only can expect from German engineers.

  • @garethowen61
    @garethowen61 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great reviews generally and particularly this one. Looking to change bike next year and am seriously considering a naked bike and this, the new Triumph Street Triple and the Yamaha XSR 900. However only returned to biking a couple of years ago and have an F700GS which has proved an ideal re-introduction. Given the huge performance differences do you think (especially with regard to the S1000R) this sensible? I/m a mature rider (50's) and like to think I'm pretty safe, using the bike to commute on busy A roads and for a few trips. The tech is appealing as are the dimensions and (you say) the day to day practicality. Carry on the good work!

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if you've had the F700 for a couple of years you know what you're doing by now, I wouldn't worry about the performance of this (brilliant though it is) you can ride it as slowly or fast as you like, you'll be fine....enjoy!

    What do you think now when you have ride the S1000R, gsxs1000 and the cb1000r, Which bike do you prefer? I have tested all 3 and I am having a hard time to descide. I think the BMW is feeling rather sporty and I love the cruise control. But the insurance is almost 1.5x higher. But is it worth it?

    And here I am looking back wondering if I should get one of these for my ‘naked back lane blaster’. Hi TMF, lovely review again. I'm bit in doubt, I like this 4 cilinder engine, incredible smooth but I also like the KTM's 2 cilinder. Which engine do you prefer and why since you had ride them both. Im normally into 2 cilinders (sound better) but this engine is lovely. Both are 150 hp+.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it's a difficult call isn't it! I think I'd prefer the 4 cylinder engine, all else being equal, but that is purely a personal call and very much a marginal thing. Thanks for the kind words and for watching once again - TMF

  • @nellytheelephant7794

    Hi TMF, great video as always and good timing for me as I'm thinking about getting one. I have a street triple RX at the mo and would appreciate your thoughts on upgrading to one or to stick with the triumph. I use it to commute a couple of days a week but mainly as a weekend toy on twisty B roads.. really happy with the triumph but the BMW has all the electrics one would ever need.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Difficult one for me to answer Neil because it depends what you value most in a bike. If smooth turbine like engine delivery, outstanding power and speed and top level electronics float your boat then it has to be the BMW. If pure lightweight hooligan fun accompanied by that triple howl are more your bag, then a new Street would be right up your err, street....

    didn't realise you had reviewed this as well. So I'm very keen to chop in the explorer as just find I'm not actually going to the moon after all and find it heavy in town. Thoughts are to px for either yam mt10 sp or this bow. I would put comfort seat and Ako on the mt10. Whats you're thoughts. I've been as far as Cologne on my 2014 s1000r - from sunny MK - and I and it handled the trip better than on a Crossrunner couple of years earlier. Great at slow speed as mentioned, comfortable at good cruising speeds despite very little plastic, and the seat might be hard but it's well shaped. I regret not picking cruise control from the list though. The akra on the new one looks awful imo compared to the old one - a euro4 thing I guess - but I'm almost tempted even if the difference between old and new s1000r is slight. I'll put that off until I've test ridden one or two other things: sdr and even the r1200r for example!
    Of course, excellent review!

      Lisbon, Portugal. Been on the monster for seven years almost, a 250 before that. Might be time for the 1000r. Hoping it's as smooth and well behaved slow/in town as it seems to be. The monster has a lot less power but is very moody/a bit jerky down low.

    Another great review. I'm really struggling deciding between the superduke and tuono ( I know poor me) I've ridden them both and they are completely different bikes considering they are both supernakeds. Hello Mr Flyer , love your reviews. Need some advice please. I'm getting a new bike in Jan (I'm coming up to 60 so it'll probably be my last) Been researching for the last 12 months and narrowed down to 2 bikes. My head says the BMW S1000r but my heart says the Monster 1200. The issue I have with the Monster is I hear so many issues about cold starting its putting me off (don't want to be worried when I'm away that the bike wont start in the mornings) Please Advise

      You may be surprised if you try it. I was quite taken with the "Thrilling Black" version of the 1200R. I now have that plus a Panigale. Very different riding experiences, of course, yet both bikes give the rider that certain "Ducati feeling." Obviously, people differ regarding whether they care for the looks of a particular bike. I had the S1000rr, which is fantastic in its own right, but I find the Panigale much more exciting-- in looks, sound, and riding (handling).

    Out of KTM and this, which would be quicker point to point? I remember my s1000r used to have a really fast turn in due to the electric suspension possibly; the ease at which it would make progress made it feel a bit clinical.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't suppose there would be anything in it if I were riding both, both amazingly quick bikes. The BMW is a little clinical compared to the KTM which has that indefinable thing they call "character" (in a good way)...

    Great review mate! I am torn between this and the Triumph Speed Triple R. I like that the S1000R offers everything, Quickshifter, dynamic suspension, cruise, heated grips etc etc. Did you try the different modes and suspension settings? how much of a difference? The shops around my place dont have any demo bikes that i can test ride, its very disappointing.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

      What a bummer, how can they expect you to ride a bike without trying it! I did try Dynamic mode (made a difference) but not the suspension settings. 17K in my opinion is high. Because the bmw timing chain and valve checks are due at 18,000 miles
      So straight off the bat after the purchase you'll shortly be paying for this job to be done costing any upwards of £1,200 provided parts need replacing.

    I absolutley agree with your comment about fairings, if you have a race fairing, whatever your body would have got your head gets a lot of that. You need to go over 120mph (ish) for a race fairing to start working properly. A slight forward lean helps, but it's not too much, as an R1200R rider I love the S1000r Nice review bud.

  • @steveinskip4897
    @steveinskip4897 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for another super vlog TMF. Just a few comments.
    Firstly I wish BMW had invested as much thought into the styling as they have into the wonderful engineering. Apart from the front end, compare the dustbin silencer on the BM with the silencers on the Ducati Monster 1200S or the Morini Corsaro 1200 ZZ.....both Euro4. It's a bit better then the Suzuki monstrosity but not much. Maybe they could contract VW exhaust emissions department to help them out :)
    Secondly I think banging your head on the church porch could have been divine intervention. I notice you didn't follow the 2 rather smart ladies into church on your vlog last week ;)
    Thirdly, Marlow has got a good cream cake shop just over the bridge if I remember rightly. That's exhausted my knowledge of Marlow.
    Anyway, looking forward to the next one....vlog...not cream cake shop.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Steve - you your points in order; Agreed, wonderful bike from an engineering perspective, looks, err, not so much to my eyes. Can it be that hard to design a nice looking exhaust?? maybe it is. Sadly divine intervention wouldn't work with me as I'm an atheist...and if I recall correctly those "smart ladies" looked like a couple of pensioners...I'm more into newer models ;0) ...and yes Marlow has got a good cream cake shop over the bridge, and many great pubs and restaurants - well worth you visiting again, a lovely spot! Cheers - TMF

    I found it. I think it's a looker too. The squinty headlight is growing on me. Mind you the KTM Superduke R headlight is not exactly traditional in style either, also dividing opinion and style of the rest of the bike as well. As you say very hard to choose a bike as there are so many good bikes now. Don't forget the Aprilia Tuono either although it doesn't have a fuel gauge which is a deal breaker for me. Just is. Also the new 2018 Speed Triple RS slightly less power though.
