  • OK, you know by now that I'm not a great TH-cam reviewer because I'm still new at this..... There's no specs, no deep meaningful observations and no helpful summary at the end! Just my thoughts and feelings about the bike having just come off a test ride of this bikes' big-boned cousin, the R1250R. I also compare it to my current bike, the Suzuki Bandit 1250S.
    I said "current" bike... well that won't be for much longer because (spoiler alert) I have gone and put a deposit down on a new S1000R Sport just like this one! 😍 No bike is perfect, but I was really surprised by and enjoyed the low end punch of this bike, as well as the top-end rush. Hopefully in time I can fatten up the midrange a bit. Even if I can't, the bike has a lot going for it and I can't wait to get acquainted!
    Now during the video I am slowing down and speeding up in odd places. This isn't a normal ride out and about. Being a test ride I was trying to find out how the bike behaved on the brakes and at different throttle openings. On top of that I was figuring out the switches, changing modes etc and I was still trying to get used to the quick shift and auto blipper!
    I used my Insta360 One X again for this recording; the damn thing was still crapping out on me. I think the problems are down to the well abused MicroSD cards I'm using so hopefully next time it will be working at 100%
    Anyway I hope you enjoy the video and please give it a solid Thumbs Up and also consider and subscribing so you can find out when my new bike arrives - I've already got a few bolt-ons waiting for it! I'll be banging those on and recording the proceedings for my channel. I've also come up with what I hope is a pretty good way of having a 1st person perspective of me working on the bike.
    P.S. there's a little bonus snippet at the end of the video 😊

    I haven't done the Cirencester loop yet. Still running in, not gone into triple figures yet on any private roads. I find the suspension hard after my 09, but you point it and it goes there - Shit hot handling. I'm looking forward to tryiung the pro modes after it's run in. Mine you that might mean the suspension is to hard,

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've worked in Ciren for 20 years so I know the routes nearby fairly well! And yeah the suspension is pretty firm for me too... getting the sag set for your weight/riding style seems to be popular with these bikes so that's my plan when Spring has sprung :-)

    Well that's a proper test ride :) For me, this is a fantastic all rounder if track days is part of the requirement. If I had two bikes I might go with the r1250r for everyday riding as its a comfy and fun bike to ride and a sport bike for the track days; an rsv4 would be ideal!

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you gotta ride it properly, no point pussy footing around 😁 Never been on a trackday myself and I think I'll be too scared to try on this one in case I throw it at the scenery! I really like the R1250R, sounds great, goes well (better than I expected to be honest) smooth engine, nice TFT dash lol... but like I said in my test ride video on that one, just a bit too heavy for my liking. Shame, really.

    I just picked one up here on New Jersey, BMW has nice incentives do this bike 👍
    I traded my R9T Racer, the riding position was just too extreme on the Racer 👎

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on the new bike 😊 I'm guessing that this version will get replaced with a new model next year, with the TFT screen and some other improvements from the S1000RR, but then it will probably out of my price range so I'm happy I jumped when I did :-)
      When I first saw the riding position on the R9T Racer I was shocked, so extreme it seemed straight out of the 60's!! Fair play to BMW for being committed to the cafe racer style but surely only teenagers could live with that riding position. Problem is they can't afford the bike!

      I loved my R9T, bit yes, it was a pain in my Neck, literally 😵, I finally made the decision to trade it this past weekend, the position just got Old, and I couldn’t enjoy my rides anymore, I didn’t look forward to riding it, I simply looked forward to parking it, and let everyone stare at it, cause frankly that bike has no bad Angles, it’s an amazing looking bike, but terrible to ride for long. 😫

    Rikky, you're the 1st - and only - YT channel I've subscribed to!....Because your 19/9/19 S1RK review is by far the best one of this bike on YT.
    Firm suspension: I'm only 12 stone / 76Kgs in gear - and I may be able to pick up a mint 2020 S1RK Sport at a great price. So, I'd value your answers / thoughts:
    1) Can the DDC be easily set to soft, without having to be in Rain mode?
    2) Can the front and rear sag be set properly for a light rider like me? The S1KR forums suggest that this is hard to do, as the S1KR suspension suits heavier riders.
    Many thanks in advance!

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mark, thanks for subscribing that's really great to know that I...errrr.... popped your cherry 🤣 I'm really happy to hear that you like the video, it makes all the effort worth it!
      Now to the questions...
      1) Yes you can press the left switch gear rocker that has a picture of a spring on it, and you can switch the DDC between Road and Dynamic in any of the riding modes (at least I think so... I've not actually tried putting the suspension into the Dynamic when riding in Rain mode!) I usually ride in Road mode because the bike just feels too stiffly damped in Dynamic on the crappy roads in the UK.
      2) Sag... this is a tricky one! My opinion is that I think that the bike is rather difficult to set up for a lighter rider... see my latest videos where I've added a Ohlins steering damper. I was getting quite a lot of head shake/wobble under hard acceleration (just like in this test ride video so I knew what I was getting into!) and sometimes in fast bends. In the comments I'm getting some good advice about how to solve these issues. For me, the Ohlins damper has solved 80% of my problems with the handling (I'm still getting weaves in fast bends and I hope I can work out why soon). You may be able to sort it out but be prepared to have a bit of a struggle on your hands! I'm on the S1KR forum too (as HeadF0x) so I've added to the confusion in the forum lmao
      It's an awesome bike though... light, powerful, torquey and with a decent amount of modern tech (although a few years behind the latest tech it's still a big step up from my previous bikes!) Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions 👍

      @@RikkyTang Hey Rikky, MANY THANKS for your FAST + HONEST reply.
      The other issue that plays into the firm suspension is that there's only 120mm of travel, front and back.
      After I posted my 2 Qs to you, I found the Suzuki GSX-S1000, which is an easier proposition + can get a brand new 2019 for a great price.
      Many thanks again Rikky!

      I test road one early last year- and i did almost the same thing at at about 35mph 2nd gear 1/4 throttle and wasnt expecting the immediate response from the engine. I rode my ftr1200 100 miles to the test ride so not like I'd just jumped out of a bus😂. Anyway probably going to pick up a low km gen 2 on Saturday. The short clutch lever made a huge difference compared to the long standard lever, much more intuitive feel- and i nitice a duff gear change if i was hesitant on the gear shifter or hovered on the clutch i think.

    I had a 2015 S1000R, great bike, traded it on a 2018 Tuono Factory , which is a monster. The tuono is more aggressive and better for track or twisties but now I'm buying another s1000r because of how easy it is to ride in traffic and slower conditions.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As much as I would love to own a Tuono Factory, I think I'd feel the same way about it in terms of its aggressiveness... also I'd probably lose my licence pretty quickly!
      But as an experience - to be able say that I owned and enjoyed one... yeah that is still tempting!

    Nice review, can I ask how do you compare it with the Speed RS you rode ?

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your question! Well to me it felt a bit like the Speed Triple platform has been stretched just a little too far in order to try to keep up in a market full of super nakeds like the Tuono and Superduke. By that I mean that the bike certainly feels fast but it seems to lack a bit of drama/excitement personally speaking. Triumph understandably tries to eke as much life out of a platform as they can, but I think the Speed Triple should be 1150 or 1250 with an all-new engine by now.
      Mind you with all that Ohlins suspension the handling was excellent - it steers beautifully! I prefer the engine of the S1000 but prefer the handling of the Speed Triple. The instruments were lovely on the ST too (but the switchgear on both is equally disappointing to use - not very tactile sadly).
      Personally, because the Speed Triple felt slightly lacking at higher revs and also couldn’t pull low revs in 6th gear anything like as cleanly as the S1000 (that might not matter to many people but what can I say, I like a tractable engine!) meant that on balance the S1000 wins for me. So I bought one 😁
      If the Speed Triple floats your boat it might be worth trying the R1250R I also test rode, because honestly I preferred the character of the engine in that to the Speed Triple too! It’s just the weight of the R1250 that put me off; not on the road, but when I was pushing the bike around with the engine off, i.e. around in the shed or back garden.

      @RikkyTang  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theincrediblesulk5543 I think either bike would serve you well - the R1250R might be a bit expensive with all its options added on, but it has an uncanny ability to smooth out bumpy roads! Cheers! I've had a great time on my S1000R and my trackday was probably the highlight - this thing was awesome & nuts! An Ohlins steering damper calmed the front end down but didn't stop the high speed weaves that happened going into fast beds. If you seen some of my recent vids you'll see that I'm basically switching to a new R1250R... I think that was probably the bike I should have bought in the first place, but I regret nothing! 😁
