    Do I regret buying this BMW S1000R 2017. Arguable one of the best bikes around at the moment. Especially for the price.
    Stayed tuned kids to hear my thoughts of this bike after nearly 6 months of ownership.

    For me this is the best bike I ever owned in all my 44 years of riding, yes I’m 59 years old, had to part with my sport bike career this year the back & wrists aren’t what they used to be 🤗 got my S1000R on impulse just to get the more upright position with the sport bike feel.
    If such a thing as loving an inanimate object exists then I have to admit I’m in love with her 🥰 just come back from a blat around Norfolk, got home made myself a brew picked up the iPad looking around at reviews for this bike, then a thought hit me 💡🤔 where do I go from hear ? What could possibly top this beauty ? The answer to that is nowhere, so me and the Beamer are now officially life partners 🥰
    Listening to you was like listening to me telling every other biker about my bike & they give you that look, you know it, the that bike can’t possibly be better than mine look, fact is if you have never owned or ridden one you are missing out & yes it is by far a better bike than any of yours 🤣😂🤣😂

      Glad you enjoyed the video mate. I been riding bikes for nearly 20 years.
      The S1000R is a serious bike. But like most things it is very subjective.
      Enjoy my man and ride safe.

    I'm lucky enough to have been able to own one after another all the naked bikes I wanted to own. I mean : Mt01, B King, K1300R, Diavel, Superduke, Tuono 1100, Speed Triple and a few others I don"t remember. I now own a S1000R (2017 model). It's the one I've kept for the longest time. I'm perfectly happy with it. Easy and efficient. The cluch handle ? Well, you never touch it except to start riding and to stop riding thanks to the up and down shifter. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's better than, say, the Tuono or the Superduke. But I'm 57 now and it's the easiest to ride of all the super naked bikes.

    I have the 2014 model, and every day it never ceases to amaze me. The asymmetrical front is not a problem for me. This one gives you a touch of unique personality. The only bad thing is that it is very easy to become a hooligan with the S1000R

    Hi there, just found you whilst looking for videos of the 2017 S1KR as I’ve just bought one & picking it up next weekend! I currently have an XR but I have been finding it just a bit to big and heavy for me despite being an amazing machine. I went and test rode the 2020 RR which was out of this world but not for me - a test ride of that taught me that my sports bike riding days are well and truly over! I got off that and rode their 2020 R and fell in love! I should have rode / bought an R ages ago! It was everything that I wish my XR was... although they offered me a great deal on a new one I found a better deal on a 2017 bike which I can’t wait to pick up even more so after watching your video & reading the comments section!! I agree with you and your subs about the tyres, they really do matter and make all the difference when you get it right. Also I agree with one of the comments about the clutch catching / snagging... mine does that as did my gen1 RR I had years ago which they both also suffer with chain clatter as you’re on and off the throttle in traffic which isn’t great but in my experience you don’t seem to get that with the 2017 onwards bikes as that’s the gen3 which is a much more refined ride. Anyway, all the best to you, subbed 👍🏼

    • @stickyelephant6027
      @stickyelephant6027  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rikki - thank you for the sub mate and welcome to the channel.
      You are going to LOVE the S1000R. It is an AMAZING machine and as mentioned within this video it has the same engine in as the RR. And for the price of what it cost, you feel like you get a complete bargain.
      I really haven't got a bad word to say about this S1000R. It is almost perfection. And there are times I look back on these videos and think, did I do the right thing getting the S1000RR. Well, for me the RR is everything the R is and more. And at the moment, I can easily live with the RR.
      Tyre's: I am perplexed at how many people I see compromise on tyre's within FB groups and forums. It's like buying a designer suit and wearing a pair of old trainers with it. Only with 165bhp at your wrist, you want to make sure you got the grip etc. It takes all sorts to make the world go round, as they say.
      Enjoy the bike my man and a good decision switching from the XR :-)

    Great Review, I've recently bought the S1000r Sport, back in September and I absolutely love it. I did initially find the 1st test ride really uncomfortable but after the 2nd test ride and then working out how I could change it to see if it was the best fit for myself being only 5"7 and 19stone, A set of MV 2" Risers made a world of difference and took any wrist, back and neck pain away. Now two months on and I've customised it to almost how I want it. Admit Bmw need to update it now in 2021 going forward but I think it's one of the best if not the best 1 litre Naked sports bikes which has plenty of the toys & gadgets and it's super easy to ride and useable power. Absolutely love it 🏍️💨💨💨.... 👍👍👍

    Great video. Enjoyed your first person perspective and straight forward opinions. I currently ride a BMW K1200LT I purchased from a friend to see if I would enjoy street riding again after riding off road since 2007 on a KTM 300 in Colorado in the States. I sold my Harley in 2005 because I'd only put 1000 miles on it in three years. I had bought it new in '93 and had enjoyed it for what it was. After riding this Beemer, I can't believe how much I'm enjoying this bike. I mean, it's a pig (850 lbs.) and slow speed stuff can be tricky at 64 yo. It's a 21 year old bike that can still stand tall with current machines in its class. BMW has impressed me and I never thought I'd say that. After the first of the year I'm getting a new bike. I've narrowed it down to the naked bikes (funny, all bikes used to be "naked" bikes). I like the BMW S1000R, the Triumph Speed Triple, and the Yamaha MT-10. The problem with the Triumph is the closest dealer is five hours away going east or west, and that's on interstate highways. With Yamaha I've got three dealers within 50 minutes, and I think it's a great motorcycle, but it's not blowing my skirt up. There is a BMW dealer 50-60 minutes away. I'm really favoring the S1000R the more I ride Big Betty (the K1200LT). In these parts, most people want adventure bikes like the GS, and I'm sure I'll need to order an S1000R. Your video has moved me one square closer to the BMW box. And, I agree the front end is, as Brits say, "a bit of a dog's dinner". Can't see it riding, though. Thanks for the presentation.

      Hey Jeff - Firstly, you are riding an awesome machine my friend. The K1200LT is a very nice bike. I think BMW have kind of got the whole motobike thing tied up at the moment.
      I read from BMW's CEO that they have grown their motorcycle sales year on year, consistently, for the last 10 years. Since they launched they launched the RR series.
      Thank you for the compliments of the video Jeff. And thak you for taking the time to comment :-)

    I own a 2017 model and I agree with you in every word. I like many motorcycles, but I love this one now more than the first day. Maybe this would change one day, but I love to think that when I look at it I don't feel nothing missing.
    I did changes, for aesthetics porpouses mainly (but weight and finish are also improved with them) but the feeling of the bike it has been always great. I think we can not say it is the best supernaked bike with all that fancy rivals out there, but... it is the "best"

      I should add, for context, that I have put 36,000 km on my s1000r, which includes six track days at Sydney Motorsport Park and many trips away. Completely stock save for radiator guards - in my profession need to avoid undue hassles with the Police. Only issues have been two water pumps (warranty - just slight trickles that did not more than look a bit dirty on the exhaust and certainly not enough coolant loss to be registered in the expansion chamber) and needing to install the longer cam chain tensioner to stop the rattle (which worked). Service costs have been reasonable (less than on my Skoda Superb, more than on my old SV650). Tyres have lasted about 9000km. Great bike.

    I had a speed triple swapped to a Fireblade regretted it as you need to be going 130 for fun on the road which is madness. Now looking at the S1K, did you find it a bit bland after the speed triple ? Also I notice your later videos have an S1kRR

    • @stickyelephant6027
      @stickyelephant6027  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found that the S1000R is a much better bike than the triple because it is lighter, faster, and handles better in the corners.
      The reason I swapped to the RR is because that it handles better than the R. And it's even faster but still has the creature comfort's on it such as cruise control (RR only bike in the sports category to have cruise control) and heated grips and still very comfortable. For me anyway. I done a road trip to Cornwall (videos on my channel) with the RR, no problems at all. For me the RR is the best all round bike.
      I hope that's helpful. And like most things, the above is very subjective.

    So the question is what would be a good transition from the street triple, I like most of the the aspects of it perhaps better brakes and a little more power but would like better handling what would be your recommendation is the speed tripple a good option?

    • @stickyelephant6027
      @stickyelephant6027  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Firstly, these questions are soooo subjective. My first answer would be: go and test ride a speed triple, and the S1000RR, in the first instance, if you can.
      Failing that, I would look at the S1000R because of how light it is. You can ride the S1000R like the street triple. But you can't the ride the street triple like a S1000R, if that makes sense?
      The handling of the S1000R is hard to beat for its category. Super light (200 KG - ish) with a steering damper.
      Personally, the S1000R is a step up / in the right direction to what you have. Plus, the S1000R is SUPER easy to ride with lots of luxuries such as heated grips, cruise control, ABS pro, and the list goes on.
      I hope this proves useful but as I said, go and test ride one if you can, then come back here and let me know how much laughing you did while riding it :-)
