  • As expected, moving to an entirely new country will come with its own share of differences and difficulties. In this vlog we discuss some of the biggest culture shocks we’ve faced while living in Thailand as Americans and just how we have either adapted…or not.
    From Thai food, to the cost of living, to squatty potty’s, and the pace of life we cover it all. So make sure to watch it and let us know if you have also experienced any culture shocks in moving from the USA, or any other country, to Thailand! We would love to hear form you!
    I would like to also point out this video is strictly of our own personal views, opinions, and cultural shocks here in Thailand. Many people will not experience these as culture shocks, while some will. This is just our observation of some very prominent differences and nothing more! WE LOVE THAILAND and are very proud to be American!

    Spot on with the 12PM - 4PM rule. If you're in air conditioning stay there. Also, the shoebox expense in Cali is real. I completely feel you. Thailand offers so much more bang for your buck. Wonderful video & great advice. Well done gentlemen!

      Haha, yeah 12-4 you bette stay in the shade. Though we've heard November it begins to cool down so we're curious to see what that will look like since it's our first time here in Thailand. As for the Cali shoebox...it's so real haha. Glad someone else felt that. Thank you again for stopping by KL!!

    Thank you so much guys for this video! My husband and myself are in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Thailand... hopefully later next year. I've wanted to go for years, ever since we had a Thai family move to town when I was in middle school in the 80s. I fell in love with my friends moms cooking!! It seems like there's a lot more notice and acceptance of the gay community there as well... See the B.L. series explosion as one example haha

      Thank you so much for this comment Muzzcovw 🤗❤️. And we can say without a doubt GO TO THAILAND 😍. Just be prepared that when you leave Thailand that you will 1000% want to immediately go back 🤭. The food alone is reason enough to visit but like you have said, their acceptance of the gay community is incredibly evident and such a beautiful thing to see! The gay community there is very vocal, very proud, and the people truly make you feel welcomed.
      Sending you and your husband lots of love, big hugs, and endless amounts of encouragement to make your way to Thailand 🤗❤️🤗. You will NOT regret it!!!

    The bumgun is the best thing ever invented. I'll never go back to toilet paper lol ( unless I have no choice or I'm in the UK)

    I don't usually go for the hotdogs. I like the quails eggs wrapped in wontons and fried crabsticks.

    • @proudlynomadic
      @proudlynomadic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have yet to try them also. However, we've tried the quail eggs wrapped in wontons and we didn't mind them. We will try the fried crabsticks though!

      Haha, yes the portion sizes can vary greatly but in general they are bigger. Mostly get you what you pay for vs living in the states and getting very little for lots of money. You'll see!

    3:33 Living in Thailand, I have actually seen traffic lights whose red light can last as long as 240 seconds (4 whole minutes)!!!

      Hey Varis Oh man, the lights here can be an absolute nightmare haha. We have unfortunately run into those 240 second lights all too often as we have 2 near where we live 😩 Thanks for stopping by, we really appreciate it!

      @@proudlynomadic I am not really sure. I take care of my mom full time right now (she is almost 85 and has dementia), so i don't really know when I will be able to go. When I am no longer needed for my mom, I would like to just move full time, honestly. But i need to work out the logistics of an income to live there as well.

    • @proudlynomadic
      @proudlynomadic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jgb4unme1 Wow! I commend you so much Matthew. I, Will, understand the commitment and pressure that is to take on such a responsibility but it's so selfless and amazing! I did the same thing for both of my parents. Sending both you and your mother nothing but lots of love and absolutely positive vibes and well wishes!
      From one human being to another, if you truly truly feel in your being that you want to move full time come up with a game plan now to make it happen. You will absolutely succeed in doing it even though you'll end up spending lots of time searching ways to make it happen ...and I know you don't know when that time will come due to circumstances but start now. Somehow. I wish I would have started even earlier but the truth is I didn't really have the drive to move abroad (or even know I could make it happen) until my mother passed away and then I realized just how much life I still had to live (for us both) and how stupid fast life really is. We all have a different story BUT I am hoping yours goes the way you truly want!! Again, sending both you and your mother lots of love and best wishes 🤗🤗

      @@proudlynomadic thanks so much for the positive vibes. I never realized what I was going to face when i moved back here in 2017.
      I had lived in Indiana my entire life and absolutely hated it (still do) and I decided to move cross-country and lived in Oregon and Washington for about 4 years. I only came back to indiana because of my mom's dementia and my dad had alzheimer's and was still living at the time. They were divorced. So it's been me full-time for almost 3 years taking care of mom.
      I have been looking into things, i follow several TH-camrs to get ideas of areas to live and living expenses. I am just working on the job/income side of things right now. Can I be nosey and ask (and email is fine, if that is better to reply, i don't want to pry in public) but do you guys work remotely?
      I need one of those trust funds I hear so much about haha

    • @proudlynomadic
      @proudlynomadic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jgb4unme1 haha, you can be nosey. We both do work and Jose is work permitted in Thailand and I do freelance work. We most certainly wish we had trust funds to 🤣 trust me lol. We are by no means rich, in fact no where near it lol. Thankfully we can do things on a very small budget in Thailand/Asia that we would never be able to do elsewhere in the world , like at all.
      Feel free to send an email anytime, we don't mind at all. I, Will, generally am the one responding and we def. have things in common with our lives so might be able to bounce an idea or two for you. Either way have a great day and hope you have a great weekend ahead 🤗
