    You did a great job, I was hesitating between this monitor and the Q32QC and I finally decided to take this IPS one because I was fearing that the ghosting of the VA one could possibly pose a problem even for someone like me who never had something else than a basic office monitor, I got it two days ago and I am really satisfied, thanks for the help aswell as I thank Hardware Unboxed for their own review too.

    I bought this as a cheap monitor just to get me by, I had an odyssey g9 (2 if you count the one I returned) but it gave me so many headaches and issues that i decided to sell it with all the flickering and scanlines. I'm going to wait until monitors that do proper HDR become mainstream before dropping a large amount of coin on a screen. This m27q impressed me with its performance and feature set. Mine was perfect out of the box no weird anomalies, minimal light bleed no stuck pixels. A real no brainier for the price.

    I'm coming from the written review. Just want to say I appreciate you noting the issues with contrast and IPS-glow in this type of display. As someone that just recently upgraded to a modern IPS panel from a decade old monitor, excepting to be blown away, I was astounded by how bad the image was for dark scenes. There was no detail in the shade. This was a 27GL83A. I was especially surprised because none of the reviews I saw called it out. The contrast ratio was noted to be fairly low, but no one made a big deal out of what to me was basically unacceptable performance. I didn't understand how it could be so widely recommended.
    I replaced the LG with the M27Q, among other things, because of the improved contrast ratio. As you note in the review, it's still not great. However at this price range, I think it's a sufficient improvement, especially with some adjustments when playing games. The BGR subpixel layout font problems can be annoying, though.
    Anyway, great in-depth review.
    (And I appreciate the ICC profiles, even though I know it's something you're not really supposed to use without your own calibration. I've been having issues with oversaturation that your sRGB ICC might help with).

      Thats the main reason i haven't replaced my 144hz 1080p TN monitor. Yeah newer monitors are slightly better in some ways but they still have trash contrast ratio, similar response times (or worse), and the only real improvements would be resolution, colors and viewing angles.
      The monitor market kind of sucks all things considered.

    • @casedistorted
      @casedistorted ปีที่แล้ว

      I do wish we had the contrast ratio of old CRT monitors still, but OLED’s seem to be making it back to that level of blacks.
      I made the change from an old TN panel to an IPS back in 2015 for a 1080p 60hz IPS 24” and it was $150 back then. Once I used an IPS display I couldn’t go back, having a viewing angle not look bad from sitting anywhere (more important the larger a monitor gets too), it was nice for watching movies with my gf at the time From a nearby bed.
      Now I don’t worry about that anymore since I’m married but having proper colors and response times on par with TN, there’s just never a reason to use TN anymore now that IPS panels are so dang good.
      I do still wish I could go back to my old CRT monitors I got rid of though.

    Hi, first of All, great review, tons of information and detail, especially in the written review and this one combined. Outstanding work, even compared to Hardware Unboxed, which I already considered very impressive. I just have a question related to the backlight bleeding, as this will be my first serious gaming monitor and I don't really have any comparison. So how bad is it compared to other IPS monitors and how big of a factor is it considering IPS glow will be there anyways. Thanks up front, and keep up the excellent work.
    (also I've read some rumors about blb getting better over time, as the panel warms up and some pressure from assembly and the frame is relieved, have you had any such experiences?)

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I appreciate the kind words. Backlight bleed varies between units, it is no worse on this model than average and some are better units than others in that respect. I agree that, even if backlight bleed or clouding is very low, you'll have 'IPS glow' to contend with. And yes - backlight bleed can reduce somewhat over time as things 'settle'.

    also does it affect videos or movies subtitles?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is covered in the written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Calibration. "Whilst mild fringing could be seen in places for similar reasons in games and movies, nothing jumped out at us in such situations. And we certainly don’t feel the BGR subpixel layout, specifically, had a significant impact there. Remember that games and video content are not optimised for any particular subpixel layout and BGR is not uncommon on TVs. The overall conclusion here is that most people won’t notice these fringing issues or find them bothersome if they do."
      So basically - it isn't something to worry about. Most text in games or movies would look imperceptibly different vs. a standard RGB monitor. Just like a lot of text on the desktop (following ClearType correction) does.

      As covered (especially in the written review), it uses a Sharp panel. I specifically compare to the Innolux panels in the responsiveness section and conclusion of the video review. The BenQ EX2780Q is used as an example there as it's the main model with Innolux panel I recommend. It offers superior pixel overdrive tuning to the AD27QD. I give my two cents on that model in this thread - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/best-32-4k-options/page/10/#post-63126. It's essentially a slightly slower version of the Philips 328E1CA we recommend with a less curved screen. So I see the Philips as a superior product and I'm not really interested in fully reviewing the Dell. Depends what you want from a monitor really, it's not a bad screen.

    Hey Love this monitor and BGR issue is solvable by using firefox instead google which respects cleartype, but im really worried about Gigabytes quality control about dead pixels.. Did you find defective pixels on your panel? Maybe im looking too deep into it, but saw a lot of reviews about it and tbh i doubt buying other brands gives less chance of a dead pixel. Some were mentiong dark vertical lines which is interlace artifacts but seems every high refresh rate monitor has them. Also love how you reply to every comment lol.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're correct, Gigabyte monitors like this are no more prone to such issues than others. I've received a lot of positive feedback on this one. People are more likely to post negatie things or share problems than good experiences unfortunately. And given the price of this one it's a popular choice, so plenty of negative feedback to be seen.
      'Interlace pattern artifacts' are covered in our written reviews, no other reviewer I'm aware of does this. They were only really noticeable (and even then, not everyone would) at relatively low refresh rates on this one - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Interlace_pattern_artifacts.

      KVM functionality is covered in the OSD video - th-cam.com/video/ozY0yICZgqw/w-d-xo.html. The mouse and keyboard attach to the USB-A ports (they are downstream). You then would need to connect USB-B ('SS' / upstream) to one system and USB-C (upstream) to the other. And for your display signals, you can connect both systems up both via HDMI if you wish.

    • @PCMonitors

      Sure. The M27Q is faster due to its higher refresh rate and superior pixel responsiveness, with lower overshoot at lower refresh rates as well. It's also a bit more vibrant overall due to its wider colour gamut - plus the Acer sometimes has issues with its gamma calibration. The M27Q is the one I'd recommend out of those two.

    I see you like the Gigabyte Monitors. Two of them are in the recommandations list. What you think of the 4K versions? The M28U and M32U? HDMI 2.1. is there for the PS5. When playing in 4K on the PS5 it mostly will be limited to 60hz anyway but I guess I will have a little bit better SDR Picture and better responsiveness as with the Philips 288E2UAE? Any tips? Also I think for the HDMI 2.1. monitors the Gigabytes have an acceptable price.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like specific monitors from many brands. I'm definitely a fan of the price to performance ratio of many of Gigabyte's recent offerings. The M28U and M32U are also good examples. They offer similar performance to (and use the same panel as) models which cost a fair bit more and don't do much to justify that. The stand design is pretty basic (same as M27Q and M32Q) and doesn't feel as premium as it could. But the core performance is strong for the price in my view. The M28U has the same overshoot issues as the others using the panel we've reviewed, refer to this thread - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/28-144hz-4k-models-including-xv282k-kv-and-vg28uql1a/ . It does not perform well at 60Hz because of this in my view. The M32U can be setup to perform well at 60Hz, pretty similar in that respect to the 288E2UAE and offering similar picture quality overall. A touch more vibrant due to a slightly wider gamut. But you pay for the extra refresh rate and size there, not any particular advantage in picture quality or 60Hz responsiveness.

    • @flockelocke2297
      @flockelocke2297 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PCMonitors man, thank you so much for these detailed Infos. Then the M28U is out of my head now. So actually now after much searching and reading. I want to go with the M32U and have the smaller brother also in mind (M32Q) and the Philips. And in a little corner of my head there is still the BenQ EW3280U because I took that wrong with the sensor. It was HDRi and it seems like I can turn that off. For a good picture quality 🧐 all will probably deliver and maybe I just should flips some coins or so. 😅

    Hello Pc Monitors, the video is very interesting, it helps me a lot. I am evaluating buying this monitor, the only doubt I have is that it does not appear in the official list of the Nvidia page as compatible, after buying the screen I plan to buy the Nvidia 3060, and I do not know anything about the configuration, my question is if there would be compatibility problems and if it is easy to configure? Thanks in advance for your answers.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As covered in the review it works just fine with 'G-SYNC Compatible'. I tested it extensively and user feedback since the review echoes this. Plenty of models work flawlessly in this way without being certified as such - there would be no reason I could see why this model would fail the testing procedure, but Nvidia doesn't test every model and I think they need a 'nudge' from the monitor manufacturer to even do this testing. Gigabyte generally reserves that for their AORUS models, probably as a marketing point they can use to distinguish them from the cheaper 'M' models.

  • @PCMonitors
    @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Let me again stress that the BGR subpixel and associated 'fringing' issues are covered in detail in the written review. As I highlight in this video and in the written review, it's a non-issue for most people, but subjective. It's not a good reason to avoid even giving the monitor a chance and trying it for yourself - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Calibration.

      It is indeed a shame RGB wasn't used. The 'fringing' issues can really bug some people. But most people don't even notice any issues at all or if they do don't really see them as a problem. I've communicated with many people about this, not just with this model but others where similar issues ally. So I'm confident in using the word "most" there. And it isn't related to eyesight, it's just one of those things!

    I've been trying to find an affordable monitor that would be well suited for graphic design work (so accurate colors), but also with a high refresh rate. • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This model is faster, that comparison is specifically drawn in the review (look at the pursuit photos in the written review and commentary there, for example - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Responsiveness ) . The FI27Q-P doesn't really offer much above the M27Q aside from a more premium stand design and some (frankly useless) RGB LEDs at the rear. Neither model offers a 'proper' HDR experience, colour reproduction and contrast is largely comparable. Responsiveness and price are probably the key differentiators you should focus on and that clearly favours the M27Q.

    torn between this M27Q and the M32Q, most reviewers are favorable toward the 27 but i've been unable to find any in-depth reviews for the 32" version. Would love any thoughts/considerations as right now the only real difference seems to be size, BRG vs RBG, and $100

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The M32Q is quite different actually, but I recommend both models depending on your own size preferences. The colour gamut isn't as wide (but still quite wide - for decent saturation and vibrancy) and responsiveness is a bit stronger for higher refresh rates. At least if you switch to its 'Balance' overdrive setting - which unlike on the M27Q is actually useable without insane levels of overshoot. It's also Eyesafe certified, which could potentially improve viewing comfort due to the shifted peak of blue light. It's covered a bit here - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/32-inch-1440p-high-refresh-ips-panel-options/. I'm considering adding it to the 'Gaming Recommendations' section of the site as well, it is a model I find myself recommending to people quite a lot and they're usually happy with it.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I only recommend one of those - this Gigabyte. The 27GN850 has significantly weaker contrast with only a slender pixel response advantage. The Odyssey G7 model is comparing apples to oranges and depends how much you prefer contrast and a strong curve over a flat screen with more vibrant and consistent colour output. The Samsung also has some weaknesses in pixel responsiveness for dark shades that are more significant than on this Gigabyte, but it is still fast overall. And there's the 240Hz capability which could be useful if you play competitively at high frame rates on the PC.

    • @DrBruno.
      @DrBruno. 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah then i should get this one the g7 is £180 more than this gigabyte one, just another thing does it work on ps5 1080p 120hz and 4k 60hz? I also saw the review on text im concerned as im typing all the time. Great review btw. Keep up the good work.

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't see why not. It lists '1080p' @120Hz in the 'TV' resolution section of the monitor's EDID - which is required for the PS5 to 'see' it. And 3840 x 2160 @60Hz is also listed there (downsampling mode). You can see this in the written review at the end of the 'Features & aesthetics' section - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Features_and_aesthetics.
      Regarding the 'fringing' issues, it's again not something most users will notice. It doesn't matter if you type a lot, I've already received plenty of positive feedback from programmers who don't find it bothersome. And I'd include myself there as I spend a lot of time looking at text. Even though I clearly notice the issue and wanted to highlight it in the review, it doesn't bother me. The Samsung has its own issues if you're on the desktop, such as the strong curve being potentially annoying, a somewhat grainy screen surface and 'static interlace artifacts' at 240Hz. All of which I find more bothersome, personally. We cover these in our review of the AOC PD27, which uses a similar panel (pcmonitors.info/reviews/aoc-pd27/ ).

    Gigabyte M27Q vs Benq EX2780Q ? Which monitor would you prefer in terms of HDR Gaming performance and then SDR Gaming Performance?

    • @PCMonitors
      @PCMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither is 'better' than the other, really. For HDR I'd give the Gigabyte a slight edge due to the colour gamut being a bit more generous in the green region. But neither is impressive for HDR on the contrast side so that's not a good thing to separate them based on. For SDR it depends on your preferences. The Gigabyte is more responsive (applies under SDR and HDR) and is more appropriate for work within the Adobe RGB colour space. It offers better stand ergonomics and has a slightly lighter and less grainy screen surface - although the BenQ is decent in that respect too.The BenQ has slightly stronger contrast, has a shifted blue peak to its backlight some would find more comfortable and a normal RGB subpixel layout.Take your pick, I recommend both.

It's tough to recommend the Dell S2721DGF over the Gigabyte given its relative weakness in contrast experience which is more readily apparent than its pixel response time advantages. Screen surface is a bit nicer on the Gigabyte, too. The Gigabyte has DP 1.2a+ (HDR feature set), by the way. Some manufacturers would simply call that 'DP 1.4'. The actual bandwidth of DP 1.4 is not needed on a monitor with this resolution and refresh rate.

      Depends which console you're refrerring to. I talk a bit about this in the conclusion of the video. I appreciate the feedback. Where I think it's particularly relevant and practical I do draw specific comparisons. In the video review conclusion I drew a few comparisons to the EX2780Q which is another key model I recommend. And I specifically draw comparisons to models using both Nano IPS and Innolux models more broadly.
      More specific comparisons in the conclusion in a niche as crowded as 27" WQHD IPS would be very difficult to slot in. They'd also need to be constantly updated as new models are released to remain as relevant. Drawing such things together is really what detailed threads on our forum and the recommendations section is for (example forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/recommended-1440p-144hz-ips-with-wide-color-gamut/#post-63190 ). The intention was to point this thread out for further reading, so I'll add that into the written review conclusion. It's good that you prompted me to do that! 🙂.

      120Hz performance is specifically covered in the written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Responsiveness. Using the optimal 'Picture Quality' setting performance is good at 120Hz, but not perfect. Inverse ghosting certainly isn't an issue, most people (even those pretty sensitive to pixel response time weaknesses) will find it just fine at 120Hz.

      @@PCMonitors thanks! i am totally split between which one to get, but as you say in the US the dell is significantly more pricey. So i think i'll go for the dell as in the UK its cheaper rn than the m27q

      Honestly think you'd really enjoy either model. I agree the pricing in the UK makes the Dell temping and I'm sure you'll like the experience!

      I make my recommendation for the Gigabyte over LG alternatives clear in various threads of the forum and on the dedicated recommendations page - pcmonitors.info/recommendations/gaming-monitors/. Most users will not readily notice the edge in pixel responsiveness that the LG Nano IPS panels provide compared to the Gigabyte. The difference in contrast is easier to notice. The Gigabyte has single overdrive setting that works nicely across the entire VRR range, too. The optimal setting on the LG varies depending on refresh rate band. Monitors are ultimately very subjective, so you need to weigh things up for yourself.

    Can you just rotate monitor 180 degrees to fix BGR problem? and of course later in software amd or nvidia rotate display to not be upside down 🤣 edit: i just google it and found out people do this, but they then have problem with gsync not working in fullscreen, only works in windowed mode... edit 2: this is not solution because input lag jumps from 4 ms to 13ms (probably Windows takes this time to flip the image).

      Yeah, there are various issues with doing that as covered in the written review (see italic text ~half way through this section - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Calibration ). As also noted there, the BGR issue is really more of a non-issue for most people. It's greatly blown out of proportion by a vocal minority.

    Im so angry at this monitor... here in canada its 500$ and there is no speakers in the monitor . i can only hear sound if i use my gaming headset..

      It's always worth checking product pages or news pieces and reviews on websites like ours as speakers are mentioned if they're included. And they aren't mentioned for this model. Don't assume they're included as on many monitors they aren't. And when they are, they're often poor quality.

    Also thanks for the review, I'm disappointed that the sub pixels are bgr, is it still worth buying?
    and
    I also have a question, is this monitor 10 bit (8 bit+frc) or 8 bit? Rtings.com says 8 bit + frc but no one else says it. Even Gigabyte's own site says 8 bit, I'm confused. What do you say, what is shown in the control panel. (probably because of the dp version it's 8 bits at 170hz but 10 bits at 120hz?)

      My recommendation for this monitor is clear - pcmonitors.info/recommendations/. The BGR subpixel "issue" is covered in detail in the written review and also on our forum - forum.pcmonitors.info/topic/making-sense-of-the-current-27-1440p-144hz-ips-segment/#post-65206. It's a non-issue for most users, quite simply.
      The monitor is true 8-bit as specified by Gigabyte. You can select 10-bit (or even 12-bit) depending on refresh rate and input used, but that simply adds a dithering stage from the GPU. This is covered in the written review - pcmonitors.info/reviews/gigabyte-m27q/#Specifications.
