My friend has an Astro a40 and he sounds perfect Iv never taught once the mic was bad in anyway at all (just said I’d comment Incase anyone seen squid feet’s comment and was wondering if anyone else had an opinion on the mic quality)
ive had the a40's for 3 years and theyve never had a problem, been perfect. Would highly recommend them.

Something else to note which I just found out through use as regards the A40's, specifically on the mix amp (at least on the PS4 version) when the mute dongle is switched on the cord the dial lights on the mix amp change colors from white to red indicating whether or not the microphone is muted.. small but handy and really well thought of feature.

Should de a heavy review on the Astro A50 Gen 4 vs the Turtle Beach X800. Would love to see and hear you’re input and ultimately winner from the two sets. I have both and maybe it’s because I’ve used turtle beach for years. But the X800 would be a easy win for me.

If you like Turtle Beach you'll like Astro for comfort. Though the earcups aren't quite as deep.

Astros are way too expensive where I live, so I'll be asking my friend to pick one from US on his way over here in mid-Nov. I've had my heart set on A50s for a while (mainly due to wireless) but the low-audio issue from the community has me concerned. Been quite a while too, and no firmware has been put out. I watched your 'audio fix' video too, but I don't know if that is a viable solution? I'll only ever be using these for my PlayStation.
Considering there will be no warranty for me, what would you recommend. Should I go for the 'safe' option in A40s+TR and sacrifice the wireless connectivity or buy the A50s and hope the fix works/they dole out a firmware update in the future?
Hmm tough position to be in. You are right that PlayStation seems to be the main problem area for A50 owners and they're still complaining about it in my video comments too, so I assume unless it's user error there's not been a good firmware fix yet (which is odd). Someone recently commented that they'd fixed it by setting the headset audio to focus on game rather than voice and cranked the PS volume up too and that had fixed it. If you're going to play it safe (which is probably sensible) then the A40 is still great. You get loads of cable so plenty of length. The audio is great as is the comfort. Hope you choose the right one.

Great video. One thing you missed is that on the A40 you can swap the plates, also meaning you can move the mic to whichever side you prefer.
Ok. Its cyber Monday and I love the features of the A50 how its all convienent and wireless. Everyone says console A40 so im going to trust you guys;). Also, ive had problems with wires breaking in the controller and braking the headset and I was wondering/hoping the wires are durable. Ive always owned like a 75$ headset and im going big on this one please comment if im making a mistake buying the a40
A50s and A40s are both great headphones. you cant go wrong with either... ive used both and i can say while wireless is nice on the 50s the 40s do have a very durable set of wires that are provided. that being said you do lose the luxury of being wireless but if youre somone like me that doesnt fully utilize the wireless feature then the A40s are the way to go. they will have a slight advantage being they are wires headphones and youll also have the luxury of not worrying about battery life span long term as i dont think astro offers a battery replacement and the a50s do not have a easy to replace battery (but i think it can be done although risky) but if youre somone that is looking for a long lasting headset the a40s will be the better option with better sound (the sound difference is very slim so may not even notice to some) but if youre somone that likes to mess with their sound settings alot and tweak it the mixamp is a good thing to have , but if youre somone that enjoys wireless features and dont mind the battery/ charging as needed then the a50s are great and one of the best wireless options. but will eventually come to a end as all batteries die. but either way you wont get a bad set of headphones.

lee sheilds I just bought a40 TR with the M840 I think? Best headphones I’ve ever had. Great quality super comfortable, and the m840 is super convenient. I say buy the a40 m840 for console because the mic is good but the a50 sounds not good. My friend got it for Christmas and it sounds like a 20 dollar headset from Walmart.
lee sheilds I’ve had 2017 a40 TRs since they came out and haven’t once needed to buy a replacement cable.
I have both headsets. Originally bought the a40 first but the mix amp began giving me problems. So I got the a50 and I am blown away at how much better it sounds overall. The bass in the a50 is incredible compared to the a40. Dont getr me wrong they are both great headsets but I prefer the a50s hands down. IMHO

Funny, I feel the complete opposite, I originally bought the A40 Gen3 and never had any problems with them, but I wanted to try wireless so when Gen 4 released I decided to try the A50 and im really disappointed. I've now had the A50 for a little over a year, the "flip to mute" mic now only works sometimes, sometimes it wont turn on at all and at other times it wont turn off, so I have to sit there and flip it multiple times to get it to work. The LED's on the charging station have degraded ALOT, they are not as bright as they used to be, and are now very dim. I was bored the other day so I decided to try my A40's again and wow such a difference in sound, the surround sound is so much better on the A40 Gen3 than it is on the A50 Gen4, it kind of makes me want to get the A40 Gen4 - and yes I have calibrated both headsets but the surround is just so much better on the A40, I guess thats the advantage of having a mixamp + wire.
The A50 is just not build as good as the A40, if you go to reddit there is multiple posts and comments about this. To anyone considering an A50, if wireless is THE most important thing to you, then sure go ahead and buy it, but if you want good surround sound and a headset that doesnt break after 1-2 years then go with the A40.
@@AndreasRP. The A40s are open-back too, so the soundstage is so much better, but lacks a little in the bass department compared to the 50s.
@@NarcoReusUK I noticed that. I ended up ditching both headsets and went with a DT1990 Pro with a mod mic. Was a bit more expensive but the sound clarity and quality is so much better.
I'm having a hard time deciding for the a40 or a50 bc I wanted to get the a40 with a monitor so I could move my Xbox in my bedroom to use my a40 but the using the a40s in my living room with the mixamp would be a mess so I'm wondering if I should get a a40 with a cheap 4k monitor or the a50

I would like to know about the a40s gen 4 mix amp pro compared to the a50s gen 4. My first concern is the comfort of the a40s. I have had a pair of a40s before. The 2014 edition non tr version I then upgraded to the a50s gen 3 and they were so much more comfortable. If I buy the astro a40s gen 4 mix amp pro will they offer the same comfort as the a50s gen 3 and 4.
I think they're both as comfortable yes.

Both the same headsets just depends what you want. Wireless or Plug In. A50 is built in mix app choose whatever you want to hear, dolby atmos and 3D audio. A40 TR is plug in mix app and is still good without it it's still good but mix app just amplifies the game audio and talking audio. Both same headsets just different options. 250$ A40 TR Mixapp or A40 TR 150$ without MixApp. A50 300$ Built in Mixapp but it's wireless.
I bought the a40 mixamp pro but noticed the a50 gen 4 are on sale as well not that much price difference. I care about audio, I mainly play FPS si hearing the footsteps is ideal. Any advice?

I personally think the A50s sound better. As for mic, wired headsets are usually superior
A50 sound better more bass ,a40 has better directional though for footsteps cause of open back.
Had the A50 Gen 4s for about 8 months on xbox, had issues getting a good seat on the charging base, headset always had problems staying assigned to a profile. Had the Gen 3s, had the same issue with the charging base and used my best buy warranty to get the gen 4s, when the Gen 4s stopped working I returned them and bought ANOTHER warranty and had the 2019 A40 TR edition sent to me. IMO A40 has better sound quality, higher volume, more precise control, and better EQ presets. Thw only thing you need to deal with is a small wire and the loss of wireless freedom, but I was tired of the issues of wireless models.

I just purchased the A50 for my xbox x/s. I was able to hear chat but no game sounds. After hours of research, I was about to throw it out the window until a last "hail mary" bit of research informed me that I needed to plug into my laptop, access the Astro Command Center, and update the firmware. After doing so, the performance came to life! The wireless feature is a huge plus as well!
Can you bend the microphone? And can you fix the audio between the party and game?
Also does it get uncomfortable wearing after about a couple hours?
You can bend the mic but it only caters to the left side. I prefer the option to bend it the other direction so I can use the mic on my right but is what it is. Sound is tricky, you have to play with chat volume, game volume, and the general headphone volume to find "your" sound. Took me a while but I got it. It's definitely one of the more comfortable headphones Ive had and the wireless function carry it's weight in gold.

I loved the direct honesty in this video. You dont really get much of that in reviews. I've been debating of the a40's and a50s for a while. I'm going to go with the a50. The only thing that concerns me in the audio issue I've been hearing about.

I've always liked the A40 more I love the mix amp. With a A50 I hate the fact you can't replace the battery in the headphones.

The astro a50's refuse to update to the latest firmware.
Purchased in September 2020, no guaranteed fix for this. I have tried all usb ports and even in my laptop, which has been rumoured to have fixed the issue for some people.
Very disappointed seeing as it is a very expensive headset.
I can't customise the settings due to this fact, considering returning them and going elsewhere!
Really the main difference is that the A50 is wireless, while the A40 TR is wired. The A40 has interchangeable speaker tags, while on the A50, you can only change the ear cushions and headband. The A50 has the advantage of the automatic standby, activated by an accelerometer inside the headset, meaning if you lay it down flat, after 10-15 seconds, it automatically turns off. Pick it back up, and it turns on immediately. The A40 also has a detachable and swappable microphone, but no flip to mute compared to the A50 or even the A10.
I own both, so for the most part I've figured out the main differences between the two.

Which one do you recommend? I have the old version of the a50 and it’s done me good for about 3 years but is on its way out and seems to lose charge even while off. I was debating the two mainly due to price difference so I’d love to hear your opinion
@@ilikemusic2726 While the A50 is great, these days I'm more inclined to recommend the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless. It does cost $30 more than the A50, it offers better features such as Hi-Res Audio certification(something only found on the best headphones), a swappable battery system, and even lag free Bluetooth Audio. In my opinion the Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless sounds better and is a much more versatile headset.

I think that's a subject of much debate. Console players will tell you the A50s aren't great. On PC I think they're superior, soundwise, comfort and convenience.

How do top Beyerdynamic compare to Astros in gaming for directional sound. i have A50 and the directional sounds for shooters is perfect but i wanted to get a good cable set and was thinking of the DT1990 pro but dont want them if they are more of a stereo sound

A refurbished A50 with a mixamp and ps5 adapter is the same exact price as the refurbished A40 TR with a mix amp and ps5 adapter on Astros website lol idk if they did that by mistake but its hilarious seeing how the same two when brand new have a $80 difference..

Just got the gen 4 A50’s and they’re great the only thing is the mic quality isn’t the best I mean it’s not bad but according to the people I play with I sounded better on my old turtle beaches but beside that they’re amazing

@@witcherrr1466 have a look for the upgrade kit for a50s, you'll get a kit with the mic, tags, and leather earmuffs. The mic and tags make the biggest difference but I wouldnt bother with the leather earmuffs

So what will be your go to headset for gaming? Steel Series, A40, or A50?
I need more time to decided on that. The A40 has interesting sound which I want to experiment more with. I'm inclined to think it'll be the A50 because I like the convenience, but really good sound is important - which is why I liked the SteelSeries Arctis Pro + GameDAC. But there's a lot to be said for being wireless. Watch this space for the A40 review then ask me again.

Hey there, I recently got the gen 4 a50s and the microphone is terrible in comparison to my gen 1 I've had for 8 years. I've done the firmware updates and messed with the command center but nothing helps, any suggestions? Great review btw 👍
Sorry to hear it. I just had mine on default settings and it seemed fine. So I don't know what to say. I've not heard anyone complain about the mic though, so that is odd.

Im still deciding in which one I should get. The a40 on best buy were 200, but the a50 were stuck at 299. Does the mix amp gives a huge advantage in terms of sound quality to the a40?
Technically it should but I didn't notice a huge difference. People generally love the A40s. I prefer the A50 due to the comfort and convenience of wireless.

I don't know about the second question but I never had issues with battery life. Docking means it never runs out and I use it all day long

There's probably not much in it. They're both comfy. The A50s might be slightly better for you as they're wireless so less pull on the head?

@@Big_Draco1738 I never recommend wireless, I mean I'm 27 I have had to deal with wires for most of my gaming life unlike the younger generation, its not that big a deal with a headset "at least not to me" I grew up playing snes, n64/PlayStation. However I can tell you with wireless you want get that instant communication, and that can mean everything when playing pvp, or streaming to a audience, its kind of like people buying a wireless mouse and not understanding how everyone keeps killing them first, and it gets extremely aggravating when you say something to someone and it takes them like a whole 5 seconds to respond cause of the delay lol people pay extra for wireless but I would pay extra for wired!

1) did you do a microphone test on the a50. I heard in the video you spoke with the a40 but I never heard you with the a50.
2) most pro call of duty players use Astro a40s. is there a big difference in the sound quality and footsteps of enemies?

Do you have an issue with the xbox base station not auto assigning when you boot the system up? I have to unplug and plug in my Gen 4 to get it to recognise. I have it plugged in the back of the xbox. The lights are permanently on while charging and lifting them of and turning them on doesnt make them work. Any help / reference would be amazing

When you update the firmware out the box that's what messes them up. I've been in contact with Astro gaming since August 13th and they said they working on a new firmware update, but its be 2wks since I've heard anything back from them. I'm just going to take them back to Bestbuy and go back to Rig 800Lx, never had one issue with those headsets. I will not ever do business with Logitech again, which owns astro's now unfortunately.

I've had the A40 with M80 mixamp ones for xbox one for 5 years the audio cable for the mixamp no longer works I don't think I will be able to find a replacement. Are the A40 TRs worth it without a mixamp or is the TR additional mixamp almost a necessity for the extra $180????
Owen Rivard if you want better control over audio, and if you stream yes, getting the mix amp is important. But the mix amp is one of the main selling points of the A40s.
Kango Yeah I don’t think I can justify the price point cuz I don’t need all those mixamp features I’m using the A40s with basic 3.5 mm cable and it works just fine so I’m good for now def gonna be looking again once new consoles come out tho
Owen Rivard well you can always buy the mix amp separately when you feel like it’s necessary. But if your playing fps games like siege and cod that rely on sound I would eventually pick one up

Owen Rivard yeah they will be compatible but won’t be as perfect as gen 4 headset with gen 4 mixamp, but because they are both Astro. The sound settings and eq presets should work the same and better that a different brand headset

Personally I prefer the A50. But I should qualify by saying I play on PC and console gamers seem to complain about it.
The Provoked Prawn I have the A50 gen2 on Xbox (have to plug them into a chat adapter for mic) and love them but they have stopped charging as I think the port has become worn.
I'm not too bothered about them being wired as I will only use them at the computer anyway I am leaning towards the a40s for what I'm hoping is better sound quality then the a50s when using the mix amp but the steel series look good..

@@tk2097 oddly I found the A40s lacked base compared with the A50s. The Arctis Pro Wireless is highly thought of, even on console but you'll find it's not as comfy as the A50s

So on the Black Friday deals the a40s +mix amp are 200$ while the a50s are 240$... i usually go wireless but I’m guna take a shot and go with the a40s ... I really love the design .. I heard the mix amp is basically like an external sound card/ amp ... I like the idea of the mod kits for refreshing their look down the road . Supposedly the a40s are better for console and I tend to enjoy console better then pc.. and let’s face it , it’s what the pros use

I just got mine yesterday and I love them. The audio is crisp and the voice is amazing. The mix amp pro is amazing as well. I highly recommend it. If you are going to purchase it for xbox you need to make sure to update the firmware first otherwise the headset won't assign to the profile and the mic won't work (learned the hard way lol).

Road Rage Mine were a Christmas gift as well but my wife gave them to me early so I was excited. Yes i upgrades the firmware on the pc. You have to switch it to pc mode to update. Like you I also upgraded from turtle beach stealth 600. They were cool but were too low on volume.
I recently just sold my Astro’s A50 and switching to the A40. I love the sound quality but what frustrated me was that the A50s disconnected so much. They would disconnect for a second or two then come back on. After researching it had to do with my router Or any router in general. Yes, an obvious thing to do is love the base station but I play wired to my ps4/pc so I can’t really move My base station away from my router
So which one is better? The A50 or the A40+AMP? It seems to me the A40 mic quality is better than the A50...
