      It really does show how versatile it is, but the head cushion on top tends to break off over time despite light use.

      You have to switch the base station to PC mode when you hook it up to the ACC, then make your adjustments. Dosen't anyone ever read the instructions. Even after he reviewed it he still didn't know how to hook them up, seems like he was just going through the motions on this review. Notice on the mic test he had the other two mics at a different position to his mouth as apposed to the mic position on the Astros. Not like JTL to do such a poor review.

    To make the Mix amp Get recognized by the Software all you have to do is sorta turn it on twice. This means press your power button once followed By pressing and holding it again for 1 or 2 seconds and you will fully turn it on for PC interaction I hope this helps.

    I think you're missing the most important part of gaming headphones. Does it pick up background noises, such as, another person in the room. A fan blowing. Another audio source. It is something a LOT of gaming headphones get wrong.

    • @KiraIRL

    I've come to realize that the Mixamp sounds beautiful with other headsets. Especially Sennheiser brand headsets. Open back preferably. I bought the Sennheiser PC360's when they were the standard and turned on Skyrim. I literally lost my mind. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The positioning and clarity fucked me up. I became spoiled with my gaming sound. I still have a Mixamp, now I have the Cloud Stingers attached to it. They sound amazing, but I now have 2 kids so I can't enjoy open back gaming like I used too😔. Anyways try the Mixamp with one of your other headsets that you have and you'll see the big difference. I know that you have the Sennheiser 373D's laying around. Use those please and be prepared for a virtual surround sound experience like none you've ever had on console.

    • @i_amChrisJxmes

      A40s and the arctis pro wireless aren't even in the same category. I've tried a40s, arctis pro wireless and the gamedac wired version. The wireless are trash. Don't use em. I prefer my Astros over the wired steel series for the simple reasons of comfort and less feedback. Steels hurt my head being tighter and also too crisp with some sounds. Also the side tone on the arctis is too loud. I can hear my dogs walking around. Keep your a40s. You won't regret it.

    • @TheSimoon12
      @TheSimoon12 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I owned 2 sets of a40 tr and now arctis 7 wireless. A40 better a notch better in every sound aspect. Both are very confortable. Way better mic on arctis and it is wireless. However, I had so much problems with creeking or microphone quality on the 2 sets of a40 that I wouldnt trust astro with my money ever again. The convenience and price of arctis 7 is way more valuable to me, though admitedly the sound is suoerior on the a40. The experience is still way better on the arctis for me.

    • @i_amChrisJxmes
      @i_amChrisJxmes 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheSimoon12 you said arctis 7. Never used them but they are considerably cheaper than the arctis pro wireless. I can see the 7s being worth the price. Not the pros tho

    • @TheSimoon12
      @TheSimoon12 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@i_amChrisJxmes The pros with the extra driver is probably close to a40 sound teritory. I got the a7 for 80 $, and to me that is a steal. The competetive advantage of better sound on the a40 is not that great. I can hear where enemies are just as good on the steelseries. Better sound does not equal better directional ques. Also I just love wireless as broken wires are the main reason I switch headsets.

I also updated firmware, put on streamer mode, and turned side tone completely off. I can almost guarantee astro will address this issue and fix with a new firmware update. I grabbed my old TR's and plugged them in to the new mix amp and there was no static or buzzing. I find it odd that both gen 4 headphones I've tried buzzed in the same right speaker. I've messed with my settings a bunch on the ps4 and still have no luck finding a solution. So far astro has only released one firmware update and it was for a fix on the xbox. I'll continue to try stuff out and wait for a ps4 firmware update to the mixamp.

Hooked up direct to my pc, ps4, or iPad and it doesn’t seem to need any volume boost from a amp. Very comfortable too and I really like the open back design when speaking. More so coming from the old model Sony wireless gold headphones.

    It's my understanding (based on Astro's documentation) you must use the optical cable (on PC) for true Dolby otherwise you're relying on software surround. Which IMO is pointless to rely on considering the price point. Also if you're only using the USB interface (again on PC) you cannot mix between audio and mic since its all thru one input. If your audio is coming over optical and mic via USB and you have them setup (defaulted) as such within Windows only then can you mix those volumes independently. Are you certain the switch was set to PC when trying to connect to command center? I have the TRs I'm assuming this version can also adjust the noise gate on the mic - however it requires the command center to configure.

    On the computer, the two devices, Pro game and pro voice, work only when the USB is connected. If you connect the optical cable, the pro game will stop working because it only receives audio through USB. To use the optical cable you will need your own realtek. One day I noticed a loud static noise coming from the headset on my White Mixamp Pro TR, I then pluged it into the black Playstation Mixamp Pro TR and there was the same noise. I came to the conclusion that my inline mute cable was causing this noise so I just purchased 2 inline mute cables for the A40s TR. With the one of the brand new inline mute cables the static noise is still there the only way it goes away is to hit the mute button on the cable. When muted everything works as normal but I cant chat with anyone. I know it must be the headset now that the cables are fine and both Mixamp Pro TRs do the same exact thing. I forgot to tell you in my previous request that this mic static comes and goes I would say about 70 percent of the time I can chat and there isn't any static/noise. I would like to get this problem figured out wo sending in any of my hardware, due to the fact that I rely 100 percent on this headset for my Xbox One, PS4, and PC audio. If your wondering why I have a black PS4 Mixamp Pro TR as well it is because I bought the Mixamp for PS4 wo a headset for 130 and then the price of cables. So I have a fairly large collection of Astro products/wires.

    I simply put the volume up put it almost all the way to voice but then i manage the voices true my ps4 pro always did this works awsome & i play a ton... i only use astro's since past 8+ years. I also like them on my gaming pc but dont need the mixamp i never have bc gaming pcs have the sound system/amplefier build in already

    Are these worth upgrading to if you have the previous a40s? You can find new sets of the old models for 70 to 80 dollars cheaper on occasion. Thanks.

    If you change the mic setting to streaming mode in the astro command center app the mic will pick your voice up better even when you lower it or raise it

    The mixamp has to be in the PC position for the command software to recognize it. At least that's how it is for the A40 TR's. And the mic monitoring is worth the premium cost alone. Steel Series has no mic monitoring. Right?

    so I tried the SteelSeries Arctis 7 then returned them and got the A40 tr. I prefer the A40 but listening to your audio test, both of the other sets sound better to me. I also am annoyed by the breathing into the mic - 100% same opinion on positioning, etc.

    Don’t like the game/chat mix knob. Why not just have one dial change game volume only and the other dial change chat volume only? Or at least have a button on the mix amp that can allow the dials to be switched to for people who prefer it this way.

    I've been testing many different headsets this year and since I'm a huge bass junkie (explosions, gunshots, etc really need to sound powerful for me), tried the Plantronics, Astro A50 G3, and Turtle Beach Elite 800x and I actually ended up with the last one. For me best balance between highs and lows. A50 was great with the bass but it would drown out the highs, when I had a EQ mode where the highs were great the bass would be weak. I wonder how that is on this new one.

    I don't know if I misunderstood your review but you said that the optical is for PS4. This is wrong and kind of ruins half the review. The USB is for communications. The optical is for your game/music audio. If you don't plug it in you're not going to get good quality audio.

    What wireless headphones (not headset) works with PS4? Aka potentially getting a ModMic Wireless - what are options for very nice wireless headphones?
    I have the Mayflower DAC/AMP combo for my PC and (wired) planar magnetic headphones with a ModMic 5. It’ll be hard to beat that in terms of sound and mic quality..... but for my PS4, I don’t want to fuss with wires on my couch.
    I’m intrigued by the upcoming Astro A50 v4 wireless - or going with the ModMic Wireless and a nice wireless pair of headphones as an upgrade to my HyperX Cloud Flights.

    I'm looking for feedback from someoen sho's used the mixamp TR and TR pro with pc. I thought of upgrading to the TR edition 2 years ago but on pc it had a metallic echo sound that destroyed the listening experience completely when used with the preferred usb setting. if i used it on PC with the optical cable it wouldn't have the problem but it wouldn't allow you to use the microphone like that. Did anyone else have the problem and if you did do the pro version still have the problem?

Also what is better for console gaming because I know we can’t use the high res audio feature on our consoles...I tried the Arctis Pro + Game Dac and the Wireless version, as well as the A50’s and pretty much all the A40’s and like them all! Your thoughts on it would be interesting and appreciated :)

      Ive had them all and the best is the new mixamp with an open back headset. Also the new a40’s sound better than the arctis pros to me(i had the wireless and the standalone gamedac)but the arctis sounded better than the gen 3 a50. Basically the new a40 has better clarity than the old one. I hated the porta potty surround on the arctis lol.

    What Are The Actual Spec Differences Between The "New" 2019 Astro A40 & The 2017 Astro A40? I am looking at the Astro A40 and MixAmp (2019): Spec sheet and all of the specs, such as the: Audio features, frequency response, impedance, features, etc., all look identical to the internal specs of the 2017 Astro A40's... And from what I have been able to tell from all of the review videos on the 2019 model, the only difference that I can see is the somewhat new look on the physical outside of the headset and obviously the mix amp that is now horizontal. Other than that, all of the internal specs, at least from what I am reading on the Astro Gaming website, look identical, this can't be true right...? Is this 2019 new model of the Astro A40's just a marketing gimmick to get more people to buy the headset new again at $250 instead of just buying a used one or are there actually any new improvements in the internal hardware of the headphones or the mixamp at all? Like, apparently the 2019 version comes with a Dolby Atmos trial, but I honestly do not see any other new internal hardware improvements, which I really hope is not the case.
    If anyone else has the 2017 model Astro A40's and the 2019 Astro A40's, can you tell any difference or an improvement in the sound quality at all? If not, I don't know if I should pay another $250 for the 2019 version if there is no actual internal hardware improvement from the 2017 version. I would greatly appreciate a response from anyone who has tried both or can tell any differences, thank you.
