One thing you must learn about Cory Henry, he literally is into it so much he leaves the physical world. Now that my friends is the secret of musical improvement, let your spirit speak.
There is no one secret. & just being really "into it" is not enough. He got so good because he grew up in a strong musical culture rooted in the Golden Era Gospel sound, surrounded by music from an early age, great teachers, access to a Hammond Organ.....& this is crucial. His own relentless hard work & dedication. Practice every waking moment, study theory & dream about those keys at night. . Only then will a musician really feel like they are leaving the physical world, & inspire the listener to join them on that journey.
I thought I was the only one who peeped that years ago..Yeah it's way more than just being "into it" my dude definitely is something special. I have seen God moving his hands on several occasions... it's one of those things either you're able to pick up on it or you're not but it's there..
@@zivkovicable Being born immersed in a musical context definitely has a lot of parallels with musical genius. Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, all great gospel singers, Victor Wooten, Pedro Martins, Jacob Collier, and probably many if not most of the musical geniuses we know about fit that pattern. I think every time we get nature meeting nurture, a new prodigy enters the scene.
After this pandemic I promisee I’m doing all the stuff I wanted to do. Including going to Cory Henry and similar events. Ballets, Broadway musicals, museums in different states, etc. even if I have to go alone.
Why not now. As musicians, we have technology on our side and we use it to our advantage. I urge you to do the same, life is great filled with wonders; In music, relationships, religion, race... endless. Relative to the transition of this beautiful improv into Smoke On The Water:- In my opinion, the true thing to take away here IS HOW SEAMLESS HE MADE THAT FLOW!!! SO SEAMLESS THAT NONE OF US SAW IT COMING.... so putting song choice aside:- "THIS INDEED SHOWCASES THE MUSICAL GENIUS OF CORY HENRY"..... dont bash it because you didnt expect that, instead applaud the technicality with which he made this seamless piece..... well done Mr Henry!!!
My soul started to physically leave my body when that happened. Out of all the ways to end that masterpiece, Smoke on the Water was probably the most horrifically out of place way to do it.
That is what great musicians do….first they play on their level when they solo and then they accommodate their fellow musician’s standard…..that is why we have these two heterogeneous pieces of music….
What pisses me off is that, and im not kidding about this, corey prob just had an "idea" of what he'd do for the intro, then got to the show and played this. Tough to hear a man improv what wouldve taken you 5 years to even unite the ideas in your head. And a year after playing this he prob wouldnt even remember 25% of it, meanwhile, its become part of a jazz theory final at a class at Berklee. Crazy.
Dear Maurice Mack Sr: The minor chords and arpeggios-type scales around give some jazz and black music its impressive-sounding flavor. However, the chops are like night and day compared to Keith Emerson and Lang Lang: Take away the pretty-pretty sounds -- no comparison.
Oh noo... last time I watched a video of cory henry.. I stayed up all night for hours browsing admiring his talent. You wont trap me this time.. 3rd time watching this video now...
I hear Chick Corea in all of that beauty, the master has passed down a great legacy to us, his musical children are carrying on in his stead and i love it!!!🏹🎯💯👌👀
I can’t understand how anyone would think this would be a great arrangement. ”Yeah you play the most amazing intro ever and build up tension, then we will enter the stage and totally fuck it up! It’s going to be awesome!”
I got entranced. I know Cory will be legendary. He moved us, touched us, and have us drop our jaw. Slowly I get more and more sucked in then he touched the organ. I got totally mesmerized and knew that I was watching something that a select few should have a privilege. Then the piano fades away and I invested all my attention to it... ONLY TO PLAY THE INTRO TO F***ING SMOKE ON THE WATER! I've never got bamboozled in life as much as this one!
This music feels like dreaming in the best way possible. I love this sense of mistery and the complex emotions in his music. A lot of jazz you hear is technical but has no soul whatsoever, this is incredibly refreshing
As a Grammy nominated songwriter I must say with a level and well musically travelled sensibility that this man is an evil heavenly conflicted musical genius with melody pouring from his lungs pores nostrils lips and follicles.
