I worked with Prince on his live shows for 11 years and this is the first time I have seen someone else do the man justice. and this is the first and only time that I have or will go public with that.

I made my father discover Snarky Puppy in 2018. He dug a little bit and got very interested in Cory Henry and discovered this cover of Purple Rain that he kept listening to months before his sudden death.
So this is a special one for me too.

I love Cory’s big puppy dog eyes. You can just tell that he is absorbing and processing so much information in real-time as he listens to what’s going on around him.
Also really love the descending quintuplets at 6:22 right before the climactic hit of the song. They really take the energy to a different plane at the perfect moment.
Things that will make you more appreciate this massive work:
1.people realize what song at the 3rd chord then cheering at the 4th chord.

It's amazing throughout the whole song. A great jazz piece alwiz have an outstanding bass guitar
The outro of this piece alone is proof of Cory's genius. He could have resolved it perfectly and absorbed powerful applause for another man's masterpiece. Instead he creates another masterpiece, tacked on to the original, that somehow reminds us of the sweetness of having known someone, and the stark eeriness of no longer knowing them.

The part of Cory’s solo that starts at 3:53 and lasts for about fifteen seconds, brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this. It’s like I get the chance to go to heaven...yet only for a short while.

Normally I agree 100%...but in this case it's both; talent definitely plays a factor. Have you ever seen the video of him playing Hammond when he was 4? My daughter is 6, practices violin every day for an hour, and she doesn't even approach that level of good. At that point in his life, he had been playing for a year. My daughter has been playing for 3.
Most prince covers I hear don't really hit right with me. This right here? This is phenomenal. Absolutely amazing.

I always wanted to be a musician, played some sax and had a band with my brother for about 7 years... But then the Magic happened... I became a Sound Engineer and work with many great artists. i can only say... "My heart is pumping and my ears are crying"
This moved me to tears... what an incredible tribute to one of the greats. You can almost feel Prince smiling down from above from this performance.
If Prince was alive and saw this he would be proud of how he embodied the music . Prince was about the art of using each instrument to make the song and energy flow magically. He was and will always be a great musician. God blessed him with a joyous gift to give to all .

Why am I crying after hearing one of the best and most recognized songs ever written, performed so perfectly? Just thinking how excellent the entire performance was is one thing. To watch the outro just give so much acknowledgment to the timeless piece. You rarely hear the outro in any setting but to sit still and feel it coming and not be able to do anything about it...#PRINCE

Cory's solo was played in guitar style. All his efforts to mimic notes bending like on the real guitar were executed perfectly. It was a real tribute to Prince IMHO.

This song has a lot of special meaning for me, as does more specifically PRINCE. I’ve always been resistant to people covering Prince. I still believe most simply should not. But Cory Henry- You did this song AND Prince a service... truly. You are MEGA TALENTED. It’s just the last year I’ve come to realize just how far your true talent potentially extends and..... wow. I love LOVE your voice.
There’s nothing I can possibly say to illustrate the level of what was done. Prince played that song however many times in his career… and had he been there to see this performance, prince himself would be misty eyed. Every aspect of this performance was unworldly , and so incredibly amazing It’s beyond the limitations of linguistic expression. Just wow man! Since discovering this musician has become a favorite within days.
