    Solid video. One point I think you should have made is if the opener is mounted far enough from the ceiling you should add a kicker to keep it from swinging back and forth. Congrats on 400 subs also!

      @@TBHD724 Reminds me of my old place. The rafters were very far apart so someone ran the punch angle 4+ feet up to the roof peak. They thought they would be clever and splay the punch angle thinking that would keep it from rocking side to side, but it just resulted in an crooked mounted opener, lol. I just used some scrap aluminum angle to make a brace to hold it straight. I guess I coulda rehung the whole thing, but I wasn't that motivated. ;)
      Then there was the extension cord they ran through the rafters to power it when there was perfectly good romex running right by it that simply needed a box installed. ;)

    Also, for the particular people concerned with noise/vibration, there are some vibration isolating products out there that can be used when hanging openers. Of course, one also shouldn't really be just making up their own solutions without thinking, "how will this end up looking in 20 or 40 years?" (disclaimer >>>)Always remember soft vibration absorbing materials almost always have a limited life span, so have an idea of what it will look like when it fails.

    There is no such thing as a "standard" punched angle bracket. It is sold in different thicknesses for different purposes. While you may be able to use thin 16 punched angle bracket to hang a braced motor, you would want to use thicker 14 or 12 ga. to support the track depending upon the weight of the door. I learned this lesson the hard way when bought a door and punched angle from a garage door company that gave me 16 ga. punched angle without telling me because they had run out of 14 gauge and the door collapsed.

      Hello Chase! It is a stand that I can get locally here in the Southern California area from a distributor. It's ideal for holding up garage door motors and in some cases garage doors. I've had many ask about it and I'm not sure why there's no one in the industry that is making a similar design or a design that offers some competition. Because the distributor that I purchased it from doesn't sell outside of the state. But if you can find it it's an excellent tool to use for garage door jobs. Y'all stay safe!

    John, I have a unique situation, I know everyone’s is unique. But really this one is. The front of my garage sticks out 2 feet from the house. On top of that inside the garage there is a support from the house that goes through the garage that will not allow the door lifting chain rail puller to go all the way to the front above the door. Any ideas. Would like to try and do this myself. I believe would need a bar about 2 feet long from the door to the motor drive chain rail. Any ideas?

      How much head room space do you have above the garage?
      How tall is your garage door?

    What angle 📐 should the garage door opener/motor be placed at? My motor slightly slopes down vs where the other end of the rail is installed against the garage door. My chamberline rail slightly bows when the door is in transit.

    My rafters go left to right, not front to back, so the angle iron that came with my garage door opener is not long enough. Why would these companies only provide 24" in. angle iron brackets when it needs to be longer to line up to the center of a 2x4... not edge to edge?!?!😡

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a very good question. In all of our installs we never use the manufacturer provided angle iron.

  • @fancypants2007
    @fancypants2007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    0:49 Before attaching the support bracket to the ceiling structure, he holds the assembled garage door opener in place to determine where to attach the support brackets.
    The motor appears to have several attachment points on each side for fastening vertical angle brackets. If none of the motor attachment points line up with joist or other support board in the ceiling, you may need to run the angle brackets parallel with the garage door rail assembly; with one rail on each side of the motor and attached to multiple boards.

Advantage is there is no drywall to get crushed as you tighten the lags up.
