  • What is covert narcissism and how to recognise it?
    A covert narcissist has the qualities of the typical, overt one. However all these features of narcissism are well hidden under the surface, and what you can see is a person who displays shyness, humility and people-pleasing.
    Watch the video and learn how to detect a covert narcissist and how to protect yourself from them. It can be a very draining and confusing experience if you don't set the right boundaries from the beginning.

    Thank you so for explaining this topic so clearly.
    I have recently encountered someone who I now understand through your explanation is a covert narcissist.
    This video has truly me understand this person better now.

    Good video and explanation! I've connected so many of the topics mentioned in the video to my past relationship.
    In Specially, silence treatment, there would be 2/3 days where contact would remain on single words, or none at all, after something went bad (more like not the way she wanted).
    And during those periods, she'd be "normal" when friends were around and turn 180° when we left and were alone. Not talking at all, angry/closed face all back.
    I reached out several times but this just wouldn't change. Not to mention all the other things I've noticed.
    Got me really confused during that period. And so until i took the best decision ive made in that 1 year relationship... finish it and let it be.
    Well, its experience and ive learned what not to tolerate.

      Silent treatment can be two things: either the person is too overwhelmed or scared to share the hurt that they experience or they want to punish the other person.
      We know it's the first case, when we approach them and we create some safety and they lean in and soften.
      We know it's the second case, when despite our attempts to repair what has happened, they remain in their initial tactic, the silent treatment.
      There is always a reason for a behavior, but it should never be used as an excuse for abuse.
      Thank you for sharing here! I hope you are at a safer and happier place in your life 😊

    Thank you for this explaination, also because covert narcissists are rarely talked about.

      I know! That's the second reason why they go unnoticed ;-) (the first is that they are covert) Thank you for your nice words and comment, Barbara!

    I was in a 4 year relationship with someone who was one because at the time I was working in shift work we both lived apart for the first 2 years then she lived with me in my apartment for 8 months with 2 teenage boys and two adults we planned to move out and rented a house in the first 3 months I discovered her sister moved in to help with expenses and the boys. But I quickly discovered that things weren’t not as they seemed and a lot of hidden activities were going on. It took a lot for me to end the
    Relationship and come to terms with it. Three years later I am stronger

      It's indeed extremely hard to leave people who have misled us (to say the least), because by the time we discover it, they have already damaged our self-worth and self-image to such degree that we feel incomplete without them. Be proud of finding the courage and the strength to leave that relationship and any other relationship that didn't serve you or made you feel worthy of love and care! 😊

      I am so sorry to hear that. Have you tried couples counseling? I have seen many couples who one partner is showing narcissistic traits, but as I usually inform them, narcissism is a spectrum, and one can have traits but not necessarily be a severe case of narcissism. In those cases, counseling helps a lot to build more relationship skills, such as empathy, compassion, understanding, and connect the couple in a healthy and balanced way. Also, a course that you may do together, might bring you closer. Check AntiLoneliness, we have lots of options for you. In any case, I wish all the best for you!

      @@vassiasar thank you so much for the reply!!💗 yes, We started couples counselling. But it’s hard, he shuts down and doesn’t speak much. I speak too much. It’s hard to get the councillors to understand our situation. I am on you website AntiLoneliness, and learning new things everyday 🤗

    In many of these, I hear the words "he and him" but to be fair women can be narcissist too, I know I dated one.

    • @vassiasar
      @vassiasar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Women can be narcissist as well. I hope I tried to equally use he, she and they. Sorry if it wasn't 100% equally distributed.

      Most covert narcissists usually are female while probably the overt is usually male.

    Thank you! How do you know if someone is a manipulator or a covert narcissist? What are the key differences?

    • @vassiasar
      @vassiasar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way I see it is that baking a narcissist is the umbrella that covers different strategies and one of them is manipulation. So you can't have a narcissist without manipulation, but you can have a manipulator who isn't a narcissist. I hope it makes sense 😊
