Thank you very much for giving the king Kasyapa the rightful place in the history. One of the greatest kings of Ceylon(Sinhale) with great imagination and artistic vision who managed to put together the best people of that time of Ceylon to build that unbelievable monument called Sigiriya. No doubt he made great connections with Romans, Chinese and possibly north Indians as well to build the country, and possibly managed to get help from those distant empires to help build the Sigiriya in record times. The frescoes in Sigiriya was so amazing. They are way too different from the type of paintings existed at that time in Sinhale. Perhaps he had the artists trained from foreign artistic masters(Romans, China, North/central India) or even had the foreign artists hired to do the frescoes. Of course, it is also possible it was simply a result of local Sinhala artists who's given freedom to use their imagination to produce those frescoes. Either way, as far as I concern, he is one of the greatest, if not the greatest king for his achievements. Perhaps his untimely demise was due to him being an artist rather than warrior. Most definitely the Sinhala historical records(Mahawansa) had done a great deal of injustice to this king by portraying him as a patricidal king who has done no good. The Sigiriya alone put him at the highest place in Sinhale history who has achieved the impossible. Perhaps he was way too ahead of his time, and that might have created the rift between king Kasyapa and the Buddhist monks. There is no way a king that was hated by his people could achieve what Kasyapa achieved in Sigiriya. I think it is about time somebody write an accurate account of king Kasyapa and his achievements and his rightful place in the history of Sinhale.
