    #austria #learngerman #oida
The learning goal of this Austrian German Tutorial is to become familiar with the trendy word OIDA in Austrian German. We are going to take a look at various situations in which we can use OIDA in our everyday language in Austria.
But first things first. OIDA might be translated as old man, but it almost never means old man or old one when people say the word OIDA. In general, many young Austrians like using OIDA. The term has its origin in Vienna and in the past it was mainly used there. However, in the last decades ODIA is getting more and more popular all around the country.
If you want to know more about the intonation of using OIDA, I highly recommend the viral video of @Eva Placzynska.

Ich höre alltägliche Leute von der Straße dieses Wort sagen, ich war wirklich verwirrt, als ich dieses Ding an einem Ende der Sätze hörte. Aber jetzt mit diesem Video weiß ich, warum die Leute es sagen. Vielen Dank, oida. (Happiness).

It won't be any surprise that what's often heard in Germany is "Alter" (Altah/Aldah), especially among many in large urban areas like Berlin. Naturally, "Altah" and "Oida" are equivalent in origin, though there may be subtleties to account for regional variation. Das passt auch, Altah!

Klingt für mich, "oida" ist wie die Verwendung von "man" auf Englisch
    That hurt, man
    You surprised me, man
    We won, man!
    That's dumb, man!
    Are you crazy, man?
    Naw, man
    etc.
