I had the RP3+ and unfortunately it sits in its case because it has a boot loop issue I have yet to resolve. Knowing about the RP4, I decided to go with the Ayn Odin 2 Pro. I am happy I paid the little extra because I have almost entire childhood collection of games playable on it. Ps2 runs great upscaled and of course gamecube.
Had the same issue on the RP3+ and after some digging it turns out it was likely an issue with letting mine sit unused for an extended period of time. This completely drained the battery and when I plugged it in, it'd boot up but start looping. Recommendations were to either let it sit charging for a long time, but to also charge it with a low powered "dumb" charger. I had originally tried it with a 60w fast charger with a USB-C cable with no luck. But as soon as a tried a regular USB A to C cable with a non PD/fast charge brick, it gave me a regular charging screen after a minute and let me fully charge it. Works like a charm now. Reddit suggestions said the USB-A port on the Switch dock works perfectly as well for this. Tech is weird. lol.
I've been looking at them suddenly. I feel like the best deal (that I've seen). Is around a $200- 215 unit and then add a 60 ish Etsy sellers batocera build (smaller SD card size). This way you can transfer the files on the SD to something bigger and add even more games to the card without too much legwork involved. Even the bigger batocera built cards seem worth it. But that method I just gave could save a few bucks with a few hours of adding your own games.
@@Monday97 they are Vita games that were taken from PS2 but ported to Vita. God of War Collection, Sky Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, etc... are all on Vita but with better graphics than PS2. Vita was supposed to be a handheld PS3.

When are the Chinese manufacturers gonna make a retro console with a proper sized 4:3 display? I'm tired of seeing widescreens and tiny 4:3 getting rolled out. I'd also like to see OLED on that 4:3 screen just so we can finally have the black level to the CRT level.
@@Dizrpt_ I found out about RP Mini shortly after. It's still a small screen. It's smaller than the screens of DSi XL and 3DS XL. It's literally shorter than the RP5's screen.
How do 2D-stuff run for this system? Would you recommend it over the Odin 2 Pro, at similar pricepoints, for someone into 2D-stuff/indies (being D-pad centric it looks good to me but have also heard a lot of good things about the Odin and the D-pad placement doesn't look THAT bad)?
The placement of the d-pad doesn't bother me at all. Also, I'm a big fan of how the dpad feels overall, very soft and not clicky. I haven't tested out the odin 2 pro to tell you what the dpad feels like, but for the increased price I woudn't think it's worth it for that.
@@8bitbongo Thanks for the reply. No I meant the D-pad placement on the Odin. For this one the stick placement would be the bigger issue afaict; whichever is lower is going to be less comfy. Hoping for an emulation handheld in the future where they go with changable left hand sides D-pad on top/bottom joycon-style. Got this now, and soft D-pad is preferred, but am now eyeing a used Odin 2 Max as well (if cashflow allows for it) without even getting set up with this one yet... The lowest tier Steam Deck is a third more expensive and can't fit in your jeans pocket. They're different tools for different jobs. If you're waiting for reliable PS2 emulation for $100..you're gonna be waiting for a minute.
Yeah that's almost twice the price and not really portable need to put in a bag so if that's your rational just spend twice as much as the steam deck and get a used gaming laptop just as portable and way better.
I didn't have a PS2 growing up myself either. It's exciting to be diving into it all these years later!

Once they reveal the 5 I bet it does, at least in the used market
It'll probably go down to 165 when the 5 comes out
