The original gameboy colour screen was freaking amazing, due to it being a transflective type with no backlight the black levels were 100% perfect, and the colours were rich and deep, playing one of those things with a light magnifier is an amazing experience even to this day.

that issue around the 12 min mark sounds like the mag sensor was tripping. could be your ring or watch. ive seen that alot with laptops.

Were you playing Celeste on Fake8, or on the real native Pico-8? You need to turn off Fake8 in the Package Manager if you want native Pico-8 to be the default.

I'm not a fan of R1 and L1, either, but the Tweaks app gives you the option to swap R1/L1 and R2/L2. The R2 and L2 buttons are much more reasonable, so swapping them in as the new R1 and L1 helps.
