    Title is absolutely bang on. RP4P just does it all in such a great form factor. It's kind of the dark horse of handhelds to me. Everyone talks about all the other devices out there, but in the glory days of GBC, GBA, NDS the biggest reason I loved those so much was they were always with me in my pocket. RP4P is really the only one out there that can do GC/PS2 emulation while still being incredibly portable. We've got the Odin 2 Mini coming out that should be fairly similar in size, but at a $330 price point. RP4P still will be the best bang for your buck at $200.

    • @adinwalls
      @adinwalls  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I'm going to upgrade to the RP5 once it comes out, I've been using my RP3+ every single day since I had preordered it. It's been reliable and handy in so many ways. I think the size is perfect as well for travelling. the RP4P is an amazing unit and I love how they stuck with the size. It really does fit nearly anywhere and has saved my bum in a few scenarios where my phone wasn't around.

      lol. At least we know I make good arguments. But like I said in both vids the decision between the two is a strong preference thing. Ive had mine since launch, had the faulty triggers, their replacement time was pretty quick so their customer service has been really good so far. the one thing I will say is I got the skull&co stick caps and it really made the sticks feel even better. I agree with the grip being optional being a great compromise for both people that want a pocketable device and having an ergonomic device. the grips for the 4pro really do feel great. my main selling factor that a lot of reviewers seem not to understand is that the size and screen being smaller than other devices in the same price and power range, are just bulky and not as portable. not that I have a problem with those devices but this fits in my pocket. I Dont need a carrying case to bring it with me to work.

      @adinwalls  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Okay interesting. Honestly the 3DS XL is the best way to play 3DS. But the RP4 pro will just play so many more things.

    • @mymusicaljesus
      @mymusicaljesus 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@adinwalls which is basically what it came down to. The 3D effect is something I genuinely enjoy (I know it can be devisive), but the clarity of the Retroid's screen and ability to play PS2, PSP, wii and GameCube just make this the better investment.
      Plus, as I just turned 40, sometimes the ease of having one device for all my old games in one place just seems so much more appealing than all the work of managing different devices for different games.

    Picked this bad boy up on a whim. Had been eyeing a steam deck forever but couldnt justify it. Had the gamesir x2 pro phone controller and used steam link on a beefed up PC. Plus my phone has a SD 8 gen 1 soc which is better than the RP4P but it was cumbersome. Phone didnt have expandable memory, when i wanted to play i had to dig out my controller etc. Opted for this thing and its great with the grips. Unusable without. Swtich emulation is nuts for this thing. Only things i dont like are the joystick placement (grip makes it way more comfortable) and the screen leaves more to be desired but not terrible. The form factor + power is the absolute killer combo as well as the price. Id feel like such a nerd whipping out a behemoth handheld PC like the deck vs this little guy.

    I used to have de RG 556 then some games where in the spot that they were not playable in that device like Baldors Gate Dark Alliance, Need for Speed Underground or F Zero GX (had constant cashing of the emulator with vulkan). Then I decided to change it for there Retroid 4 pro knowing that I was going to loose on the screen department, but actually being able now to play almost all the PS2 catalog in 3x is a whole different experience, is like injecting new life to that old games I use to play, so in fact in the visual department the experience was better at the end.
    But what was more shocking in comparison was the quality feeling of the device is just different, feels compact and well build, and the stronger part is the analog sticks are amazing, I had a lot of issues or not best experiences playing racing games or FPS on the RG 556, short travel, not precise, not fully responsive, sticks with a cheapy feeling.
    I mean I had both on my hands, had the chance to keep the RG 556 but seeing all this differences actually the decision was finally easy towards the Retroid 4 pro.

    A few years ago I would have been all over the RP4+. Nowadays I look at handhelds in a different way and have a different set of priorities. Native aspect ratio and a fitting design give me the nostalgia that I seek. With that in mind, Sega retro games feel great on the RG Arc-D’s 4” screen and 6 button layout. Likewise, Nintendo games feel great on the RG405v DMG.
    If someone just wanted one device for £200, I wouldn’t choose an RP4+. The RP4’s 4.7” 750p screen is poor next to the 5.48” 1080p AMOLED screen on the RG556. A bigger battery and better ergonomics are also a plus. Performance is slightly better on the Retroid for PS2 games as is better portability. I’d say the 4 non + is the better value.
    At the end of the day, I just don’t think there’s a one size fits all solution. Great video though and an interesting take on the vast amount of handhelds today.

      Hey man, this is very true. The RP4Pro is a great "do it all" device, but as you say, maybe it doesnt actually do one system the best, i.e. Sega on the Arc or maybe Gameboy on the RGB30

      @@adinwalls For GB/GBC I’d be looking for a vertical device (that’s not Powkiddy). The RG405V DMG is my current stop gap but I’m probably going to get an FPGBC + flash cart if Anbernic or Retroid don’t come up with a device that’s closer to the original experience.

    Question, open for anyone to answer - I ordered one of these from Amazon, and it arrived with the box already opened and the device had debris on it and smudges on the screen. Is this how they're normally shipped? I've been researching these devices for a while now and I've been closing down more and more on the RP4P. I'm mostly interested on replacing my phone for PS1/PSP games, it plays them great, but I kinda want to have a dedicated handheld and not carry a Razer Kishi on my bag all the time. Plus, the prospect of playing the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 on a handheld that can fit on my pocket is highly enticing.

Plus, it's cheaper and it's powerful enough to play some PS2 and GC games which is enough for me on the go. I just wish it had a slightly bigger screen. Otherwise the based RP4 was on my radar as a budget and pocket friendly companion to my Steam Deck OLED.
