From what I can tell, it looks like the Sport Touring uses the 1.5T in both the US and Canada. It also looks like the Sport uses the 2.0 NA in both the US and Canada. While the Sport model comes with some extra convenience features up in Canada (lucky), those features do not include a sunroof, "leather" seats and steering wheel. So it's looking like the Civic you ran was likely using a 1.5t, which would explain the rather significant performance gap between it and the other vehicles. The regular 2.0 Sport is crazy slow off the line, but starts to pack a decent punch once you hit 5,000 rpm.
I have never seen anyone drag and roll race the 2.0 Civic vs Corolla. They’re always comparing the 1.5t to the Corolla’s 2.0na. It’s like comparing apples and oranges.
Now this is more interesting to watch than high performance cars. As others have mentioned, the civic is definitely 1.5T since it packs so much power compared to other cars. The Corolla in the race should’ve been the 2.0L engine, not the hybrid.

One of the things I wanted to mention but didn't- the underpinnings of even the most basic entry level cars are so good nowadays - esp when you look up the trim lines, GR Corolla, Elantra N and Civic Type R. Its a good time to be alive and enjoying cars. Curious to see how this particular Civic holds up against the Mazda3's of the world. The 1.5L engine uses 2 exhaust pipes/tips while the 2.0L N/A engine only has a single exhaust pipe/tip coming from the rear. The 10th gen civics also does the same thing mainly for the typical base models.
It's a drag race between 3 compact cars of each East Asian car brand. By the way, I know that the Honda Civic is still one of Canada's best-selling cars to this day.
Stock car races are a lot better than the tuned car races even if the stock cars are kind of slow cars cuz most people aren’t tuning their cars. Plus you know exactly what you’re getting if you purchase any of the stock vehicles.

Try kia forte gt (DCT) vs civic Si vs a higher spec corolla or even the base model integra. Love the more "realistic" consumer drag race rather than the more expensive vehicles.

Yeah that Corolla Hybrid just has the 1.8L old skool. My 2022 SE has the new 2.0L that has a physical 1st gear then goes into CVT mode. It's pretty peppy.

@@ArExsTee The 2.0 is quite a bit quicker than the 1.8. It definitely would have been closer. The 2.0 is 1.2 seconds quicker quarter and almost 2 seconds quicker 0-60. The Elantra is 8.1 seconds 0-60 and The Corolla is 7.9. I have had both and the Corolla is quicker, especially the SE.
Toyota makes slow ass cars. The 90s were the last time they were talked about. The new Supra is great but it’s a bmw. This is why they revamped their entire brand as nobody wanted their crap anymore. Easy to make a reliable slow car the hard part is keeping reliability and making a faster car that can be modified way above its already stout stock number for a decent price that’s what sells cars. Helps if it looks good to.

Throw a 2019 Yaris hatchback in there , they come with a 6 speed sport transmission, not only that but the sedan comes w a manual transmission. I think the manual might be able to beat the civic. Producing “only” 108 HP and Weighing at 2,400 pnds it’s also I think a much more fun experience when it comes to driving. And cvts’ have been called out plenty in this video 😂 great work you guys ! 💯
The rear electric motor in the Corolla cuts off around 70kph, that’s why it’s good off the line but not on the roll. So at highway speeds it’s just a fwd and not awd.

I Constantly see unfair competitors against the corolla. Its either turbo civics or higher displacement engines. lets do all 2.0 NA engines. Throttle house did the same thing, they had the Corolla against mazdas 2.5 and civics 1.5T.
Sam, I respect your opinion and decision to make this comparison. But just don't do what everyone else has done. I got maybe an honest mistake, bringing the Civic sport touring with the turbo engine. My point is that when comparing cars that are in the same segment, try to compare similar cars, for example, the civic sport, hyundai SEL, and the corolla SE. All these cars are 2.0 litters natural aspirated with cvt transmissions. Later, if you want, bring hybrid samples of these 3 manufacturers you can do it also. That way, you are giving your viewers a way to compare these cars. Thank you, and I hope you can do this comparison again.

Just a quick clarification, the paper I had about the Civic is for the 2.0 NA - this engine is the 1.5t Turbo 180 bhp 177 Torque with CVT.

Unfair comparison. Test the Corolla with the 2.0l version. It’s the most powerful and fastest out of these 2
If we do get a civic hybrid with 180 HP and 232 lb ft of torque from the European civic hybrid, it will eat Corolla hybrid for lunch.
It’s gonna be more power, it’s getting crab hybrid powertrain, 204Hp and 247 ft. lbs of torque.
But it's going to be far more expensive than Corolla.

It has 1.8 but they added extra module in 2024 so its much faster 0-60 should be around 8 seconds on par with 2.0

Makes zero sense to have the 1.8 Corolla go against the 2.0’s especially with the heavy ass battery. It has the smaller engine with way more weight.
Sam, I respect your opinion and decision to make this comparison. But just don't do what everyone else has done. I got maybe an honest mistake, bringing the Civic sport touring with the turbo engine.
My point is that when comparing cars that are in the same segment, try to compare similar cars, for example, the civic sport, hyundai SEL, and the corolla SE. All these cars are 2.0 litters natural aspirated with cvt transmissions. Later, if you want, bring hybrid samples of these 3 manufacturers you can do it also. That way, you are giving your viewers a way to compare these cars. Thank you, and I hope you can do this comparison again.
Ughhh you don’t get it. The corrolla is hybrid is half electric and it has 1.8 engine and it can beat the Elantra until the speed is 40mph because the hybrid can go up to 40mph max. Thats why.
