I love how everyone is drifting towards the conclusion that every single car in this segment is just great. It's gotten to a point where you can legitimately pick your car just by the brand you want to drive the most, and no one can really blame you for it.

Final Drive is what people don't realize makes the difference. If it has enough in the torque curve to pull the gears it'll have a wave you feel. If not, it does that... I have the highway gear in my truck; 3.55 ratio. 70 mph at 2,000rpm but with that you get 1-2 shift at 35mph and the 2-3 at 70.. with 4 & 5 being overdrive. So I run OD off to avoid it shifting too much in the city, negating the "milage gains" though which is pointless because it has enough torque to leave in 2nd and 4/5 doesn't shift until 40-50 with lockup around 52mph. So old auto or new Manual, gearing matters

With front drive, you have to roll in the power. 1/2 clutch it until the tires bite and then drop the hammer. The hard drop after burning some clutch while finessing the traction makes for a great take-off. Unlike RWD which need the hard drop to put weigh on the rear wheels. If your launching like a RWD, you're doing all wrong.

Yeah, I feel like that could account for literally all of the time difference to be honest. Would love to see this done again but with a set of FL5 wheels shoved on the FK8. Car wouldn't be set up for them but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still within a couple of tenths then.
Also, 265s are insane on a hot hatch. A new RWD M4 Comp only has 255 rear tyres but that has 510hp and weighs more than most towns. Those tyres and the relatively poor economy (I'm assuming not much improved since the FK8) mean the FL5 has comparable running costs to some fairly serious sports cars that it can't compete with as a driving experience- a 991 Carrera would cost the same to buy and run, at least here in the UK. In terms of driving pleasure, that's really not a comparison the FL5 wants to be part of...

And dare I say, it looks better from the outside for my taste (it's much more futuristic, even though it is older, but it looks unreal in flesh on the road, like nothing else really, like an alien car literally) and from the inside - it's above and beyond me how anyone can like an interior with stuck on like a tablet infotainment screen (the only nicely done example is in the new Mazda 3 IMO) and last, but not least - it is even faster in a straight line!!! Owned a Focus RS here in the uk from new in 2017 and it was £32k. The new CTR is £52k with options. I seriously doubt it’s £20k better! And only seems to be quick on a dry race track and not your typical greasy and damp British road. I sold my RS to buy the GR Yaris which is just as quick as the RS but more usable due to it’s smaller dimensions and lighter weight. I’m looking forward to coming across a CTR on a damp day and leaving them behind in a trail of wet leaves in my wake ;)

Front wheel drives are absolutely great. They encompass the soul of the original boy racers. Perhaps not the sexy option, but the sheer pleasure of how pointed they are, and light and nimble, means they offer a completely unique driving experience.
