I can't imagine how guilty his family feels for throwing him out. Not that they should or that they did the wrong thing, but if that were my son or my brother I would be devastated and couldn't help but blame myself.

They should feel bad tbh I don’t think they deserve the guilt of him losing his life, but he was a addict, not to mention gay, and putting him out on the streets was ridiculously dangerous. He needed HELP, not to be taught a lesson.
edit: I feel like I worded that badly but by “they don’t deserve the guilt of him losing his life” I mean they shouldn’t feel so guilty that they blame his death on themselves cuz im sure they were lost when dealing with an addict and believed it was the right thing to do.

@@genoswest7253 Nah, I disagree. I'm a bisexual trans recovering addict myself. Sometimes even housing and feeding addicts is enabling them. Addicts HAVE to hit rock bottom in order to get it in our own minds to recover. And really, if you've ever been around an addict for more than an hour, we're real big assholes.

@@z0minos13 no dude I get it I have severe BPD and I’m a huge asshole during breakdowns. I get where you’re coming from but everyone deserves a roof over their heads and a warm meal. I understand the rock bottom thing may work for some but it def doesn’t work for all, and I personally don’t think it’s the way to go. addiction and mental illness don’t make you YOU anymore, if that makes sense. Everyday is rock bottom. I believe that the best way to recover is to receive help. Feeling helpless and alone are two of the worst feelings in the world to me. i know getting into rehab isn’t easy or even accessible to many but I think that trying that route is a lot better that taking the risk of putting an ill person on the streets who could hurt themselves and potentially others. I hope that makes sense I respect your take 100% especially as someone who’s in recovery, you obviously know more than me so I hope I don’t sound like an asshole pfft and I hope it all gets better :^)

@@z0minos13 totally agree. My brother was addicted to alcohol, heroin, fentanyl and Oxy, and whilst he clearly needed help, he just didn’t want it but proceeded to treat my parents and their home/possessions horrifically, even at one point arranging a burglary of their home by a “friend” of his. He pawned jewellery my mum had been given by her first husband and youngest son who both died on the same day, despite knowing how precious these things were to her. He was aggressive, violent, unpredictable, and it almost destroyed my mum and dad trying to help him by letting him live with them. They really tried their best and even when mum finally said she couldn’t live with them any more, they set him up with his own flat and would shop and clean for him and give him money because they were terrified if he was homeless he’d end up dead. ultimately I think either he just never really hit rock bottom or his addiction was just too strong, and he ODed in 2017. It’s impossible sometimes to know the best thing to do, but for one commenter to say this guys parents don’t deserve to feel guilt is so harsh and narrow minded. Like you say, addicts are assholes to be around but a lot of people don’t appreciate this! Good luck with your recovery I wish you all the best, sounds like you’re on the right path now which is great 😊

I can’t believe that people doesn’t intervene when something is going on. I’ve called the police several times on a neighbor that I’m sure is beating his wife due to the sounds I hear. Finally, since police can’t do anything if the people say everything is fine, I’ve called social services because they have kids and they can investigate in a way police can’t. Several years ago I had a young couple with a son as neighbors and they lived across the street. One night while I was in my room playing on my Xbox I heard screams coming from their house. My parents were in the living room watching a movie but the volume was too loud for them to hear, so when I came out of my room to tell them about the screams they had to mute the TV. My mom immediately took a step outside so she could hear more clearly what was going on, as their front door was wide open. Moments later she rushed back in to grab her phone and call the police. After she hung up she said she could hear yelling, screaming, crying, punching, and slammed doors and cabinets. We saw the police come and go from our living room window, and things were quiet for a while. I stayed up that night in case the fighting started up again, but luckily I saw that the mom had her son in her arms while another man, I’m assuming was a relative, helped her grab her bags and they left in the middle of the night.

@Alex B making anonymous call to police is still staying out of it. My best friend was murdered, neighbors heard the arguing/screams for help and didn't call the police. If they did, she might have survived since this went on for over 2 hrs before he killed her. Also, if it is a violent/troublesome house, it will only escalate, and then shit like this happens. I'd rather call the cops 10 times and only be right once, than not call once, and someone dies. If you were the one in trouble and a call to police could possibly save your life, you would hope that someone would make that call, wouldn't you?

They don't see these kinds of stories. My dad is a landlord and has been for decades. It is INSANE the shit people pull, and it's like the laws are against you in a lot of places. He literally has to bribe people to get out of his houses sometimes because it's cheaper than trying to get them evicted.
But people only care about tenant's rights or renter's rights. They don't care about the hell that landlords get put through, most of whom are just running a small extra property or small space to get a bit of extra money and are not rich at all.
Stories like this are also why you want to be a good tenant. If you're a good tenant, any landlord who knows anything will go out of their way to keep you, because you're not destroying their property and hopefully paying on time. Only a complete idiot landlord would not take care of a good tenant. My dad has some renters that he never raised the rent on (until rent controls started getting implemented. He'll give you a good price if you're a good tenant, but if the government is going to step in and punish him for doing that then he's obviously going to charge what the property is actually worth instead...)

As a drug addict in recovery, my heart broke at the reality that Ramis only had $6 in his account and nowhere to go. I was fortunate in that my family put up with me/I wasn't in a position to be left on the street, but I know that $6-left-in-your-bank-account vibe and it's a horrendous situation to be in. Gosh, the man was literally SHOWING his bank account to Craig until he let him stay for the week and then he...changed his mind about it? Sure, he could do that, but what a shitty moral compass you have to have to just decide that allowing a sick man four more days of your home would be a colossal inconvenience. I know Ramis was stalling to leave, but of COURSE he would. No one wants to be forced onto the street, especially not a drug addict, and especially not a drug addict who was told he could stay a bit longer. The man was struggling; it happens, and the lack of empathy shown towards him is sickening. My former-addict heart shatters for him.
Ramis wasn't at ALL responsible for his murder, so this is just a side-note, but to anyone here struggling to recover from addiction: you have my support and my love, and with time & hope, you'll be alright.

Your not intitled to anything, and it's beyond rude to take advantage of a person's kindness. No one owes you anything just because you can't get your life in order. If you're on drugs and you want my help, you better be out painting my house and mowing my lawn without me asking, and then I might think you care about me and wouldn't mind helping, but don't sleep in my house and just expect me to let you stay because you don't have anything. Remember that in that moment your body may respond different than everything you always thought/prepared you would do. If so (not wishing anything on you!) never beat yourself up over it. We always envision how we react. Like fight. Well I failed, twice. I just froze solid and it was literally as if especially the last guy had full control of my body and brain. Mentally I am kind of ok, but physically I am in pain just sitting and nothing can be done as they can't see anything wrong. No because you won't do surgery to see if my nerves are destroyed which my therapist said was likely due to the what and how.
I can't skip a bowelmovement but it happens. The longer the worse. I take a pillow sometimes to scream in on my lap. Only painkillers take the very worst off and make it sort of liveable becsuse I must visit my mom 2x a week. Must as in I vowed to myself. If she is gone.... I really don't know.
A few things were very hard on me and this freezing was one of them as qas doing exactly what he wanted but after long therapy I sort of was able to make peace and understood that this was my body respond to stay alive and that I did what he demanded: he had a knife ready and any sound or non compliance I was scared to death would get me killed and them mom and dad...... I guess I tried to heighten my survival as it was likely he was unhinged and any no could be a reason to stab me to death. In the end he did stab me, once. But since it seemed like a new add on to a practiced script it wasn't deep enough and I was too scared to go to Police or GP. It was barely 9 years after the last same sort of attack: who would believe me if the Police in the first case made sure to let me know by remarks and questions they didn't.... I couldn't and I couldn't face any rapekit :-/

You always think you are prepared until you face danger. Your body runs over the 3 F's (fight, flight, freeze). Unfortunately, regardless of how often I tell myself I'd be a fighter or runner, my ass is a freezer out of instinct. Watching true crime and preparing are so much different from real danger and the biological responses our idiotic brains decide for us a lot of the time.

@@Fluffy-Fluffy i completely agree. Your body has a fight or flight mode and in the splint second your brain acts to coping mechanisms an then react in coping as well. However some advice if your in danger. Best to yell "Fire" instead of screaming and saying "help" because In most cases people tend to avoid helping but if it's a fire they tend to react because they're not in imminent danger or they can watch which disgustingly people have the bystander affect.

4:15 unfortunately the system does this to a lot of families. My little brother was taken in 2020 and they left me there and I wasnt removed until summer of 2021. Even though my adoptive mom treated us horribly and abused us both. The system will try to keep children with family (like they did with me) and that can sometimes be worse (like it was with me) there are some good things about the system but all in all it sucks

I've always felt like they try to appease blood parents far too much, when what they should be doing is protecting and taking care of the kids.
You see it in foster families, too. A kid will live with a stable, happy family for seven years and not know anything else, and then police will just show up and rip them away from everything they know because some biological parent decided to fuck up their life. That type of stuff shouldn't be allowed at all. The kid should ALWAYS come first; they're the innocent victim, and the parents are the ones who screwed up their chance. They shouldn't just get to demand a second, third, fourth / etc chance to mess up their kid.

I feel... So so bad for this man. I've been homeless quite a bit in my life. And I'm 2500.00 in debt. It's such a sick, gut twisting feeling. To have no money, and no home. I understand his desperation. I don't blame him for begging them to stay. It's was worth a shot for a few more nights of safety from the streets. How heart breaking. Trying to claw you're way out of a sinkhole and you're literally beaten back down.
My heart goes out for his family. They we're doing what they had to. You can't help someone who doesn't want it. However, they do not deserve this for trying to survive.
    Horrifying.

For someone living in Melbourne (moved here from a Muslim country), drug dependency and addiction are soooo common!!! It is really sad seeing how drugs here affect generations.
