I have driven a Rav4 for 4 years (leased car) and now purchased a new Corolla Cross. My thoughts: Rav4 is just a born cruiser, there is no distance that would make you feel any kind of back pain or anything like that, even over 1000km in one day was not a problem. It felt heavy while driving, siting position was more SUV-like. Fuel consumption combined was 5.6l/100km. On the other hand, Corolla Cross feels surprisingly similar to drive in the front seats yet the siting position is more toward just a hatch back than an SUV. It is smaller in size so indeed, space in the back seats and in the trunk is a different league compared to Rav4. But for a family of 4 is absolutely fine, which Rav4 will also easily handle a family of 5. Fuel consumption in Corolla Cross with the same driving style is 4.8l/100km and driving this car in the city is way easier compared to Rav4. So, to sum this up, I would recommend Rav4 for slightly bigger families (more people and luggage to fit inside) or when someone does long journeys on regular basis. Corolla Cross is much better for city / suburban area and when you would need to take it for a longer drive few times a year it will also do it well. Both cars seem quite identical from the engine power point of view with a slight advantage on the Corolla Cross side - feels a little bit more punchy (and at the same time just a little bit noisier on a highway). Would I switch back to Rav4? Well, in my use case scenario (family of 4, majority of driving is 50-60km a day and 4-5 times a year a longer, like 1000km, journeys) Corolla Cross is a better choice. One last thing - I think that if you or your family members are really tall (over 6 foot and 2" / 188cm) or a bit, as it was said in the material, "generously weighted", or have or need to fit the child seats at the back (it is doable in the Corolla Cross but is a way easier in the Rav4) then the Toyota Rav4 is the car for you (taking seat at the back in the Corolla Cross is just a bit of acrobatics). Enjoyed the review and would agree with the RAV4 comments. I've had my RAV4 nearly three years and may change it at three years old, so useful info for me, thanks
Bro you did an amazing job with this. i really appreciate it. you changed my mind from the Corrola Cross to the Rav4. all the detail i wanted to know that the website didn't offer.
My family and I just purchased a Corolla Cross. We absolutely LOVE IT!!! We went from a Sienna to a Cross. It is smaller but for the money it’s totally worth getting into a Cross. To be honest I didn’t see or feel that much of a difference. For the value I go for the Cross!
The conclusion in this review captures why both these cars exist at the same time. The RAV4 is geared towards families. It's for buyers who need that legroom for their kids, who need that extra cargo space in the back, hence why it wins those comparisons. The Corolla Cross is not optimized for family hauling. Its target demographic is singles and couples looking for more space and better driving visibility than a car and general SUV capabilities to enable out of town trips. Toyota will never create two products that cannibalize each other.
The way it’s priced in the real world is going to upsell a lot in f people to the rav4 though. In reality the cross is like 3k cheaper. That’s not a big enough gap. It needs to be 25k out the door instead of 32 to 33k after tax.
Hey great comparison! My wife drives the new Corolla Cross and I’m thinking buying the RAV4. For the Corolla Cross i can also confirm that the consumption is between 5 - 6 l/100km. For the RAV4 i doubt that it consume only 7L/100..Maybe the Plug In one is better choice but also expensive..
'If you have a second car, a bigger car, for the whole family. Than the Toyota Corolla Cross is a much better pick, because the compact dimensions make it easier in the city even more...' The measurements of the Toyota Corolla Cross are 4,46m. x 1.83m. THAT'S NOT COMPACT. A compact car is usually around 4m.x 1,73m. That's my only criticism, otherwise very well substantiated review, keep it up!👍
Thanks for this video. I currently own a 2021 RAV4 and I am quite happy with it. Note, my wife drives a 2008 Highlander which is good but gas mileage is not as good as the RAV4 (20 MPG versus 28-30 MPG for the RAV4). However, I am looking to purchase another Toyota SUV and the Corolla Cross is one of the vehicles that I am looking at. Things I like about the RAV4: plenty of space, 28-30 MPG, smaller and a bit more maneuverable than the 2008 Highlander, and updated safety features. Things I like about the Corolla Cross: Smaller and more maneuverable than the RAV4, similar features to the RAV4 (my daughter is learning to drive in the RAV4 and she has mentioned that she definitely likes to drive the RAV4), Better gas mileage than the RAV4 (32 MPG versus 28-30 MPG for the RAV4), and Cheaper. So, I think I will keep the RAV4 and get the Corolla Cross for my wife. I'll let my daughter keep driving the RAV4 and start learning how to drive the Highlander. Eventually, she will most likely be driving the Corolla Cross. :)
when you ask for visual comparison comments it would help the viewer by your providing views that give a simultaneous view of both vehicles. Similarly, when you are presenting measurements facts it would help the viewer if you provided them in simultaneous tabular format. Say Hi to Thomas. I know that he would prefer the corolla simply because it is BLUE!
I had ordered a Corolla Cross in Mexico with a 4 months delay for delivery :When I realized that the price was raisng each month and it was almost the same price as a RAV4,, I got desilusioned and I cancelled the order.
Yeah. I wonder if their entire strategy is to just upsell people to the RAV4. The price difference isn’t enough to justify the smaller cheaper option. Needs to be like the difference between the rav4 and the 4Runner, about 10k. Then I’d go with the cross.
Corolla Cross isn’t that small compared to RAV4…it’s actually quite big compared to other cars in the sub-compact SUV segment. It’s much more than the Corolla hatchback…so a little zonk for your review…rest all good with your review…cheers!

Very good video. I like being able to see both cars side by side. I like the smaller size of the CCH and the great fuel economy. But since I will be taking it camping and to the mountains the lack of a spare tire is a major drawback. There are ways to carry a spare in the CCH but none are ideal.
Thank you for the great review. After debating RAV4 vs Toyota Corolla cross, I just got the Toyota cross in Germany and I’m loving it! After your review I’m glad I got the cross not rav 4. the feel is great and it looks beautiful. Thank you.
Which specs did you get ? And which engine? 2.0 or 1.8And is there a big difference between the two? Currently debating on the Corolla Cross va. Skoda Karoq
Hi guys! Took the Corolla Cross 2 liter Hybrid on a test drive and I found the engine sound becomes quite loud and unrefined during quick acceleration. I think they saved on some more noise insulation here. Is the RAV4 sound much quieter during acceleration? Other than the "acceleration noise" and the traffic sign recognition, I liked the Corolla Cross, though.
I’m interested in the RAV4, but, does it come with electric adjustable side views mirror, for example when you start it the mirror comes out, and can you start it remotely like in James born movie? please let me know!!! Thanks
Thank you for finally mentioning the FISH FACE. Maybe a *carp* searching the bottom mud? Is this a marketing strategy to convince buyers unappealing vehicles must be really good when they sell or is there a hidden message? Toyota's styling is in a slow lane for years now. Both vehicles are a good investment due to their reliability. Your reference to "Atkins cycle" is as clear as the mentioned fish habitat. Atkinson cycle ( if that is what you meant) implements delaying action of intake valves to save fuel and was here long before the invention of CVT.
I'm considering both these vehicles. I'm about 6 foot 2 and 3/4 inches in height. I rarely have passengers in my vehicle. Mostly I want fuel efficiency but not at the cost of comfort. I have bad knees that I find feel better in SUVs. I was hoping to save money on the Cross hybrid over the rav4 hybrid. Though some people tell me because I drive so little I shouldn't own a hybrid. My main question to anyone who is around my height is will I be comfortable driving the Cross hybrid?
Here is a neat trick to get more rear leg room behind passenger side. Move the front seat more forward and recline it back a little. This is my driving position also. Does everyone have to be 7 ft tall and sit in the rear. Have your tall friend drive his larger car instead, just give him some gas money. Also for the CVT noise, don't most ppl listen to music or want to hear all the car and road noise so it shouldn't be a deal breaker. Luxury cars has more sound deadening and premium sound system. You wouldn't want to waste that unless you are very old and rich and don't like music. You only love having lots of money and focus on business and not pleasure.
I like the look of the Corolla Cross better. Whether it looks like an SUV or not does not matter to me. I also think that SUV’s waste all kinds of space compared to minivans. I have never felt “soccer Dad Dissed”. Besides, I need to cart mode airplanes around! Economical operation would be my best-all and end-all. In (northern) North America, with our typically cold winters, hybrid (plug-in would be nice) is a must.
both are definitely interesting and work to reduce fuel economy. The Honda system has more pure EV moments whereas the Toyota system kinda feels more ICE based; it's hard to really judge what is "better", its just different
2:13 What a huge nose the Corolla Cross has ! Even as a crossover you should provide a minimum of off road abilities. With that huge overhang you can't even approach a normal curb.
I'd see the Corolla Cross as a baby brother to the RAV4. I just reserved the Corolla Cross as the other one is abit too big and more expensive for my use case scenario.
I've liked and subscribed Thank you 👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have a RAV4 I am 75yrs old I find the RAV4 very easy to get in and out I don't do a lot of mileage 8,000 miles a year compared to the RAV4 what's the ease of getting in and out I am a widower so I don't space just easy getting in and out your thoughts please thank you
Good review... This guy is just as good as Thomas :-) It looks like that the Corolla (and maybe also the Rav) engine will get very dirty when driving on wet roads
@ 6:58 "If you anything about Toyota's that they are not the quickest to innovate". Not entirely true. Toyota has introduced countless world's first but they often keep these to JDM only vehicles. The Toyota Crown had a full digital color display dash all the way back in 2008 some 10 years before german luxury makers started using digital dash.
@@autogefuehl So the back-up camera technology and infotainment interfaces are the same between the 2023 Rav4 and 2023 Corolla Cross hybrids now? Thanks for your quick response! Really clear, nicely done comparison, btw.
And across all brands, also an excuse for the dealers / distributors (for Toyota) to order them loaded up with all the accessories. Such as, who needs two different sets of floor mats, alone comprising $700 of the MSRP!
Corolla Cross is a PRIUS SUV.. reliable engine and transmission system, best system for the next decade or two especially for people not wanting to live at a charging station ! With all wheel drive, plenty of city torque and newest electronics it offers a better system than all other sized competition from VW, BMW,FORD, etc
Compared to the Honda HR-V, the Corolla Cross looks very cheap inside. The fabric seats, the plastics, the boring design. And even though it is more than 10 cm longer, there is much less space in the back seats. Yes, you can carry more luggage in the boot, but you also don´t get Honda´s magic seats. So I am happy with the Honda!
I totally don't understand complaints about the engine sound. You want sport sensations, you buy a sport car. What did you expect from famly friendly crossovers?
I first heard of the Toyota Corolla Cross in 2021. I was then thinking: could it come to the UK and Europe? Later on in 2021, Toyota confirmed the Corolla Cross for Europe, including the UK. Then in 2022, the Corolla Cross arrived in Europe, but it hasn't landed to the UK yet.
@@joe80ss In Ireland and Cyprus which drive on the left like the UK, they have the Corolla Cross with the 2-litre hybrid powertrain. Even though I’m not big on crossover SUVs, I think it’s unfair that the majority of European nations have the Corolla Cross but not the UK.
The Hybrid Cross is not available in the U.S., yet! The RAV4 is getting dated IMO. We drove a 2021 XSE RAV4 and it's underpowered for its size. It needs the Venza engine and horsepower, at least for the U.S. market with our long drives and major highways. For around town, to/from work and on short trips, the Corolla Cross Hybrid is the perfect blend of practicality, functionality, updated Tech., and better gas mileage.
Both seems like nice cars but all else aside is any of them helpfully 4WD when pulling a boat trailer up a boat ramp from stand still? It's a deal breaker.
My rav4 has the same multimedia system as the corolla cross and the instruments is completely digital just as in the corrola cross, same 12.3inch display
For current market, Used RAV4 gives better value than new Corolla Cross. It is from Midsize platform and has much bigger practicality. The 5th gen hybrid is not really 5th gen, it is just mainly renaming and many parts are still the same only the ECU tuning. some of the components on Corolla cross transmission are actually taken from Camry for giving better power.
Great review thanks I love spacious car/suv , I want to feel comfortable on my seat with wide front and back view , toyota make great engines and transmissions , I just dislike this weird big screen which stand in front blocking the front view and give you limited access to dashboard eg when you want to wipe it from dust , why they just make it part of dashboard block 😊
My 2017 Escape was totaled. I’m in the market for a new car. I think I’m returning to Toyota, I’ve had a Corolla and 2 Camrys. There’s something about the RAV4 I dont care for. I’ll have to try out the Corolla Cross
I have a love hate relationship with both of these 😂. Love the exterior of the RAV 4 but felt like i was sitting way too upright while driving. Like the interior of the Cross more but hate all the black plastic on the exterior
I didn't like RAV4 suspension in sharp bumps as it juddered the whole body of the car. Would have been nice to know if Corolla Cross suspension setup is more refined.

Enjoyed the review and would agree with the RAV4 comments. I've had my RAV4 nearly three years and may change it at three years old, so useful info for me, thanks
Good review, I would like to see the Corolla cross vs the Yaris cross, think that would be interesting, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks 🙏
Bro you did an amazing job with this. i really appreciate it. you changed my mind from the Corrola Cross to the Rav4. all the detail i wanted to know that the website didn't offer.
Thanks 🙏 also check out our most recent RAV4 review: th-cam.com/video/sgA7Xy0Q5hM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eINtgqG4J56ax60g
Thank you so much for the review. I was just cant decide which one to buy. It was very helpful to know the difference
Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel and our videos 🙏
Enjoy 😊
Very good presentation, honest appraisal and useful comparing two cars.
highly appreciated !
In America u gotta wait months, here in Australia we gotta wait 2 years 😂😂😂
Expert comparison and great job as usual...Thnx AJ :-)
🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for the excellent review. Question: Do you think is worth paying EUR 2,500 for the AWD technology on the Corolla Cross?
Thanks 🙏
Only if ur region requires frequent awd due to weather
Excellent review. Thank you!
highly appreciated !
Love both car but RAV4 is really looking more rugged and beautiful 🤩
that's exactly why i dont like it. feels like driving a box :))
Agreed I'll be buying the CCross because most of the time it's me and dog.
The way it’s priced in the real world is going to upsell a lot in f people to the rav4 though. In reality the cross is like 3k cheaper. That’s not a big enough gap. It needs to be 25k out the door instead of 32 to 33k after tax.
Great indepth comparison. I am checking your other videos now.
I do not notice the issues with a CVT that everyone describes. There is lag in a normal automatic transmission too.
With the RAV4 or Cross?
is the current Toyota RAV4 a popular small SUV within Germany? Thanks!
Cheers! Hehe nice family lineup
Ours RAV4 Hybrid AWD avr is 7,3l/100 km
Our Rav 4 is 6.8 l/100km in winter and 7.2 in the vicious Dubai summer. A/c holds up just fine at 49C.
That's my only criticism, otherwise very well substantiated review, keep it up!👍
Thanks 🙏 it depends on market. In US market the Corolla Cross is compact or even small 😅
@@autogefuehl Of course, that's a good point.
@@kevinvancapelle Yes anything above 1800mm width is SUV and not easy to drive in city.
Definitely the Rav 4 , keep in mind the new rav4 2023 has the same tech has the cross
Just bought the RAV4 hybrid a month ago, loving it 😍
enjoy!
Thanks 😊
I had ordered a Corolla Cross in Mexico with a 4 months delay for delivery :When I realized that the price was raisng each month and it was almost the same price as a RAV4,, I got desilusioned and I cancelled the order.
Yeah. I wonder if their entire strategy is to just upsell people to the RAV4. The price difference isn’t enough to justify the smaller cheaper option. Needs to be like the difference between the rav4 and the 4Runner, about 10k. Then I’d go with the cross.
Do these have adaptative cruise control? i.e. can they drive in traffic braking and accelerating alone?

Skoda Karoq
I have 2.0! It’s basically 5 weeks old and I’m still loving it.
Thanks 🙏 no because the corolla cross already has the new hybrid generation
I've ridden both and the RAV4 felt much louder. Sounded like the car was too heavy for it's engine. The Corolla cross sounded less "annoying".
During the interviews for the intern position, Tomas would be “let me measure your leg’s length”
Thomas: *whips out folding rule*
Thanks for bringing us this content, so well done!
🙏🙏
Excellent review.
thanks keep following !
I’m interested in the RAV4, but, does it come with electric adjustable side views mirror, for example when you start it the mirror comes out, and can you start it remotely like in James born movie? please let me know!!!
Thanks
best review i was looking for this for very long
5:45 - That balls scratch :D
@@johnnysilverhand1733 in the reflection. A few seconds earlier you can see a precursor dance which is also funny.
LOL. Eagle eye...
Great review.
Will there be a phev with the Corrola Cross?
Thanks 🙏
Afaik not
@@autogefuehl thx, hoped for a phev because like the RAV-phev there would be no roaring sound while accelerating
Love this detailed review!
Thanks 🙏
I'm considering both these vehicles. I'm about 6 foot 2 and 3/4 inches in height. I rarely have passengers in my vehicle. Mostly I want fuel efficiency but not at the cost of comfort. I have bad knees that I find feel better in SUVs. I was hoping to save money on the Cross hybrid over the rav4 hybrid. Though some people tell me because I drive so little I shouldn't own a hybrid.
My main question to anyone who is around my height is will I be comfortable driving the Cross hybrid?
Check out my vid here i am almost ur height: th-cam.com/video/hXtgXsnUBQc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1kA2TtfygdiozTNv
Such a nice review! Could someone inform me about the colour of the Corolla cross? Is it blue crush?
Thank you for this detailed review. Honestly I have toured and understood both cars. Is Cross a Fielder that was modified??
thanks for tuning in!
Corolla Cross shares genes with C-HR
how do you compare the corolla cross hybrid system with the one on Honda's new HRV e:HEV? Thanks
both are definitely interesting and work to reduce fuel economy. The Honda system has more pure EV moments whereas the Toyota system kinda feels more ICE based; it's hard to really judge what is "better", its just different
You cannot make a choice as you are most likely to wait 24 months for a delivery for both of them. Just crazy!
2:13 What a huge nose the Corolla Cross has !
Even as a crossover you should provide a minimum of off road abilities.
With that huge overhang you can't even approach a normal curb.
Very useful video, could you please make a video compare Toyota corolla cross hybrid and lexus NX300 hybrid
I'd see the Corolla Cross as a baby brother to the RAV4. I just reserved the Corolla Cross as the other one is abit too big and more expensive for my use case scenario.
I've liked and subscribed Thank you 👏👏👏👏👏👏 I have a RAV4 I am 75yrs old I find the RAV4 very easy to get in and out I don't do a lot of mileage 8,000 miles a year compared to the RAV4 what's the ease of getting in and out I am a widower so I don't space just easy getting in and out your thoughts please thank you
Welcome 🙏

You can't go wrong since they're both reliable and great on fuel
Good review... This guy is just as good as Thomas :-)
It looks like that the Corolla (and maybe also the Rav) engine will get very dirty when driving on wet roads
Highly appreciated!!
How does the Corolla Cross compare to the Toyota Matrix/ Pontiac Vibe???
Modern day version….
Looks the same. The matrix was a dream!
Good review my friend 👍
Thanks 🙏
Hi there, can you please put here which model year for these cars in your comparison?!
RAV4 when u get all-new one u already get the bigger screen now
@@autogefuehl So the back-up camera technology and infotainment interfaces are the same between the 2023 Rav4 and 2023 Corolla Cross hybrids now? Thanks for your quick response! Really clear, nicely done comparison, btw.
Thanks! If you get the newest version now there shouldnt be much difference yes!
Yea all cool and stuff, can we talk about supply chain issue which doesn’t exist that dealers are emphasizing to drive car prices
And across all brands, also an excuse for the dealers / distributors (for Toyota) to order them loaded up with all the accessories. Such as, who needs two different sets of floor mats, alone comprising $700 of the MSRP!
Excellent review )
cheers =)
What is the gas milage of this vehicle in hybrid mode? i read somehere it was 38? that is not that good unless other engines are available.
How’s the fuel consumption on the rav4 ?
Not a word about suspension softness of hardness.
Great review, thanks
thanks! Feel free to recommend our channel :-)
Don't like the cup holders on the cross. Not sure about the screen either. Back seat would be issue
2023 rav LTE hybrid is what I'm getting, I'm soo excited!
I totally don't understand complaints about the engine sound. You want sport sensations, you buy a sport car. What did you expect from famly friendly crossovers?
More about the gearbox that creates this kind of engine sound
I like both cars so I have the Rav4 and also ordered the Corolla 😁
😅
I first heard of the Toyota Corolla Cross in 2021. I was then thinking: could it come to the UK and Europe?
Later on in 2021, Toyota confirmed the Corolla Cross for Europe, including the UK.
Then in 2022, the Corolla Cross arrived in Europe, but it hasn't landed to the UK yet.
It was meant to arrive October 2022 but still not here. Chip shortages excuses
Probably because you have a special import bureaucracy
@@markmd9 I can’t imagine that would be the case.
I wish this comparison had been made between the gasoline-only models as opposed to the hybrid models, which not everybody buys. 😒
The only issue with this review is the trims. People dont mention the trims in their videos and people get confused.
i don't know why,,i seem to the front gril of corolla cross look like opposite 🤔🤔
I love the sequentials on the CC Europe model... wish North America got that...
My rav4 has the same multimedia system as the corolla cross and the instruments is completely digital just as in the corrola cross, same 12.3inch display
New 2023 model facelift
Good comparison...!.
Highly appreciated! Please recommend 😎
Thank you 🙏.
👍👍👍
For current market, Used RAV4 gives better value than new Corolla Cross. It is from Midsize platform and has much bigger practicality. The 5th gen hybrid is not really 5th gen, it is just mainly renaming and many parts are still the same only the ECU tuning. some of the components on Corolla cross transmission are actually taken from Camry for giving better power.
thanks for the feedback !
Great review thanks
I love spacious car/suv , I want to feel comfortable on my seat with wide front and back view , toyota make great engines and transmissions , I just dislike this weird big screen which stand in front blocking the front view and give you limited access to dashboard eg when you want to wipe it from dust , why they just make it part of dashboard block
😊
Why do other countries get better exterior details?
My 2017 Escape was totaled. I’m in the market for a new car. I think I’m returning to Toyota, I’ve had a Corolla and 2 Camrys. There’s something about the RAV4 I dont care for. I’ll have to try out the Corolla Cross
Schöne Farbkombination!
I like any interior without fabric. Not easy to clean.
I have a love hate relationship with both of these 😂. Love the exterior of the RAV 4 but felt like i was sitting way too upright while driving. Like the interior of the Cross more but hate all the black plastic on the exterior
0:50, 160mm is not enough😢 its a sedan car not an SUV or Cross over.
I didn't like RAV4 suspension in sharp bumps as it juddered the whole body of the car. Would have been nice to know if Corolla Cross suspension setup is more refined.
