Crazy times indeed. Last year I bought a Corolla sedan with the 2nd top trim level + metallic paint and automatic transmission. The exact same vehicle now costs €9,600 more! Insane.
I really like the way Toyota do things -- not pretty or exciting, but very reliable. My problem with these SUV hybrids is that they don't appear to be very practical. That boot, those seats! Great review, as ever.
And don't forget, although they are hybrids, they do use a lot of gas compared to the standard hatchback or station... And are generally more expensive.

@@ΧρήστοςΔενέχεισημασία The price is actually one of the huge downsides in my opinion, it costs as much as a Rav4 in some markets at least and is much more expensive than a CX-5 which is a more premium vehicle. (Again, not all markets)

I second that Mike. I know most of the other channels are bull. I own the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Adventure Hybrid, safari green and black interior. My wife Lanie who is 5ft 0ins finds the steering wheel and reach of pedals and steering wheel easily. I’m 5ft 9 and for me also, the RAV4 seating, steering wheel and reach of pedals is also perfect. So I was surprised about the Corolla Cross not having the ideal seating for the channel guy. Keep up the good work channel guy and spare us the bull like other channels are doing. Cheers New Zealand.
Great review as always Marek, I like how are you only honest reviewer left on the youtube. No one else includinng Carwow, Autegfuhl etc... Mentioned how bad the seats are, and especially soundproofing(its good or alright, but in reality its terrible as you said). You even gave metaphore which explains why its so bad. Whenever somebody asks me to recommend them certain car because they saw it on carwow and think its cool, i point them to your videos. Keep up the great work!
I not entirely agree with this interview. I have driven the car twice now and seat are comfy but indeed if you are a taller person the may be on the short side. Soundproofing is really not that bad. The car does its "thing" without any pretantions, dare I call it boring ;-) Really, the car does what it need to do without you noticing it. Coming back to the soundproofing; maybe we just have good road over here.
No. It's a very biased and unfair review. A lot of what he says is not true. I own a Corolla Cross and it's very comfortable and a great vehicle. Has decent pickup and personally the sound has never been an issue for me. I'd suggest test driving s vehicle instead of depending solely on reviewers like this one. I've watched several reviews on the Corolla Cross and this guy completely botched this review. He's not even a high profile car reviewer on TH-cam. Watch The Topher. He gave a great review. My neighbor has a Rav4 and said if the Cross was available at the time of purchase he would have bought it instead. The car is amazing on gas and it's a simple vehicle. Only thing that needed improvement was the rear leg room. If you're 5'10 and taller you have to bring the drivers seat back which limits rear leg room. But everything else I am very happy with as an Owner.
The 5th gen Hybrid is the new breaktrough, compared to Corolla Cross in other markets that still using NiMH battery like in Corolla and Prius. I wonder if the Li-Ion battery like this may suit the hybrid performance compared to those in NiMH. By the way, nice review as usual.
Thanks for the review Marek. SUVs sell well, and I can understand why manufacturers are plugging every gap in their line up with them. This one seems to fit Toyota's usual 'solid but not outstanding' positioning. I am a bit jealous that in Europe the Corolla Wagon is an option though. That with the 2.0L hybrid is a car I can see myself buying.
That was a great review Marek! I really like your no bullshit way of reviewing. I definitely don’t want a ladies shopping car. We have a Toyota Yaris that serves that purpose already
Before I saw your review I did a small "test drive" in this today (drove around the local Toyota parking lot), and even in EV mode I felt the car noisier than other cars, even non-hybrids, I've used! I swear I could hear the parking brake "actuator"! I did have my hopes up for this model, as you said the RAV4 is a bit too big for my taste, and the CHR clearly sacrificed space for style, but the gains seem small. Rear sits seem ok, but I expected the boot to be bigger. I'm not sure what version I tested, but it was 2WD and it only seemed to have rear camera, a very poor quality one. I've been in a friends 2018 Qashqai and they already have a similar 360º system to the one you reviewed on the Corolla Cross. Regarding the passenger seat I only wished it had an option to go lower, but again, I didn't sit on it very long. The other things I didn't like was the position of the multimedia screen, seems out of place and "invasive" and I kept trying to use the AC knob as the radio volume knob... there was a Yaris Cross just next to the Corolla and I confirmed that it had a volume knob, a step back in my opinion... Thanks for the video! Felt like you were too nice, but I just probably had my expectation too high for this model! Edit: Also wished that the opening between the seats would slide out for elbow support!
Thanks for guiding me here. I also checked out your review of the Toyota Rav4 and the Mazda CX30. Not enamoured with the Toyotas, If Mazda did a self charging hybrid then i would stick with them.
Biased review… I have driven this exact config 5k km in 2 weeks on a longer trip and the seats were very comfy. No back pain whatsoever. For sure they will never be luxury level but they are good enough for a good and reliable family car.
Great review as always and even funnier than usually ….I was waiting for this review but now I am disappointed …..so the only pro seems to be the latest generation hybrid system…..how noisy it is in comparison with Duster for instance? And the front seats how uncomfortable are in comparison with Duster?
16 cm ground clearance, but how about that exhaust pipe protuberation? :) I noticed it while taking pictures and you have to admit you risk hitting it on the rocks if you do a lot of off roading. :)
And it looks SO BAD. I've noticed that too in the previous generation of RAV4 and I always hated how that piece of pipe hangs down and ruins the whole car aesthetic. xD
Are you joking 😂 Mini vs Corolla. Toyota simply demolishes any competition. No manufacturer come close to them just because of the hybrid system they offer. Basically there are only two cars in the world, Toyota and anyone else.
This is basically the Toyota version of the Lexus UX. Next year a Lexus UX 300h is rumored with this drivetrain, and i think it would be a vastly better c-suv because Lexus most likely will add better soundproofing and better seats, among other things, for not much of a higher price.
I'll disagree. In my book the Lexus UX holds the record for THE WORST use of interior space in history. The exterior dimensions are similar to the BMX X1, MINI Countryman, Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and somehow Lexus managed to make the interior the tightest and the least practical :) The Corolla Cross is miles ahead of Lexus in terms of interior space and practicality.
Hi, Thank you so much for your review. I really appreciate it. I always watch your reviews which I found them honest. Can you help me decide between karoq, ateca or Toyota?
@@MarekDrivesENG thanks for getting back to me. First of all, I live in Germany and that makes decision a bit difficult because of the variety. I have rented a seat Arona 110hp for the past 3 months. It is a fun car, but is small for a family of 3 with all their stuff, and also pretty loud at speed. That’s why I get to know the bigger brother ateca. I have not test drive it but some reviews say that the ride is harsh. Then you in your Skoda Karoq review mentioned that Karoq might be a good alternative to Tiguan. But some reviewers say the ride is dull and boring. About Toyota I just saw your review, not very keen on that as the price is relatively high. So simply I cannot decide. I need a car in the size of Tiguan/Karoq, which worth the money and also price/performance/comfort/fun/safety technology is better than others (difficult question 😁). Budget wise, if I invest in buying a car, I have to keep the car for long time. So I am open to any other suggestions from whatever company based on your experience. Thanks a lot again and have a nice day
I won't sugar coat it: if you want a fun(ish) car for a family you're looking at something more expensive (perhaps Cupra Ateca) and possibly larger (I don't know if Ford still makes the S-Max, but if you can find one, grab it, before they're gone). Yes, Skoda is dull and boring, but it's not supposed to be interesting. Arona is small and loud (I'd check out the 150 hp T-Cross). From Toyota I'd only consider the RAV4.
Any news on when the facelifted us corolla cross will come in europe. It actually looks decent in the front/grill plus nicer seats. 2023 or 2024. As for the prices, no comment
Strange high prices, the same model here with the hybrid engine is 1.024.000 Thai Baht which is about 27.400 Euro. Car prices in the EU have gone through the roof for some reason.
Different markets, different taxes. In Poland this car starts at around 29k euro, but Toyota is the sales leader in Poland, so they probably negotiate better prices. Germany is a wealthier market, and I don't expect the Corolla Cross to be a big hit over there anyway, so no reason to discount it so much.
It is somewhat specific to this car, in Finland for example the Corolla Cross price starts at 40.000eur but much more moden alternatives like Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tucson hybrid start at 29.000eur
Same her in NL. Corolla is much more expensive. But it is a real hybrid where the Qashqai 1.3 is not. I own the QQ and it is great but fuel is 6,4 l/100km.
The Corolla Touring Sport is definitely quieter and has better handling. They both extremely reliable but Corolla Cross will fit better for people who live in suburban with uneven roads.
It doesn't make much sense with Hungarian prices. The RAV4 is about 10-15% more expensive and I'm pretty sure it's a significantly nicer car. All cars are expensive as hell but if you have 45k for a car, you can probably stretch to 50k. You have to draw the line somewhere but I don't think an uncomfortable passenger seat is acceptable at this price, or any price for that matter. It seems to me like you spend 10% more and get a 30% better car.
You described the car very well - I think that the drawbacks come from the fact that the car was designed primarily for Asia - shorter people, slower average speeds, generally lesser standard of comfort and I assume they don't usually think of putting your entire ski equipment in the boot, which the Japanese seem to stubbornly ignore (yes, no through loading) etc... even things like halogen bulbs for the indicators. That said, I think it will serve a lot of Europeans very well, but I would see it more likely for edler couples or, as you mentioned, shoppping bag, for which is whatsoever better the Yaris Cross or C-HR
I am between this and the toyota yaris cross. What would you suggest? I was shocked to see that the trunk of the car has the same capacity as the yaris.
The Yaris cross is one of the worst vehicles on sale today. Avoid it, no matter if you get the Corolla or not. If you need a small AWD suv, get a Hyundai Kona N-line, about the same size as the Yaris Cross, 198ps, AWD, great equippment, and less noisy. And far cheaper.....
Interesting. Marek describes the front seats as ‘unbearable bad’, while both Thomas and Brian from Autogefühl are praising these very same seats into the heavens.
If Toyotas had the build quality of German cars they would cost more than them, generally they are addressed to buyers who mainly care about reliability rather than build quality or performance and surely there is a very big market out here for such buyers. People who like to drive and not just move from one place to the other prefer German cars or to be fair European cars, all things considered and definitely with some exemptions either side.
Holy moly - tried the Cross while shopping for a RAV/Outback. Nice interior is the only nice thing I have to say. Without a doubt one of the worst cars I have driven since a Renault 5 in '92. Would make a nice golf cart. Driving "dynamics", power, steering, brakes do not seem ready for actual road use. I couldn't imagine if it was loaded up with people and gear. Ouf. NOPE!
Interesting, like most Europian car jornalist, you perfer German cars, dispite quescionable realibility, longevity, fuel consumption,i didnt find any positive video about Toyota/Lexus,Honda,Subaru on your chanel, loking across the pond American jornalist are marking this car as car of the year in USA,and Japanesse car brands are always on top in America with owner satisfaction and longevity,VW,BMW,Mercedeses,Jags and Range Rovers only buy people on leasing, because they are so exspenisve to maintain, and they hardly last more than 100k km without serious problems and costly repairs, your Mini Contriman, its cute, fansy and unique, but exsaple in 4 years we'l see how does it perform
I love Toyota's hybrid system, it does save a lot of fuel, but excuse me!? 43k and you have nearly zero soundproofing? Come on, it's almost 2023... is it THAT expensive for the Japanese? It doesn't have to be Rolls Royce quiet, no. But at least something for damn sakes. Also, how come the EU let's them sell cars here with such short seatbases!? I've driven a 2015 Forester on a long journey and a 2012 Škoda Octavia seat felt like Spa wellness when I swapped. Ahhh blimey!
Holy shit that seems like a crappy car that seems 5 years old already. The kia sportage hev gt line for example is bigger, comes with crazy amount of tech over this one, seems even cheaper and with 7years of warranty compared to 3, at least here in Sweden. Toyota is so behind in every aspect. Nice review, thanx 😀
youre correct, the new drivetrain is a major breakthrough for economy quite amazing, but the car itself is boring, but hey, most toyotas are but they all sell like hotcakes mainly due to their reliability
As is tradition for Toyota of Europe this thing seems just horribly overpriced. Like, Kodiaq L&K overpriced, it's the price of a Rav4 and looks 6 years old already. I'm sure it'll fit the bill perfectly for a lot of retirees who go to the Toyota dealership out of muscle memory, though I don't personally understand the willingness to pay such a high premium for brand loyalty still when you can compare the realities of cars so easily now.
are they nuts in Toyota with price for this!? price are not so far away or like Mazda cx 60 2,5 with 328hp hybrid and more then 3,3 liter diesel with 200hp and Mazda cx 60 are bigger class
Toyota, please do something for your product design. Make it look nice and clean. That just we want. Then, the dashboard design very boring to drive. Please make it new innovations toyota. #toyota#toyotaeurope#toyotausa#toyotajapan#toyotaasian
Has the designer who did the ugly grills at BMW moved to Toyota ? Very much looks like it . What an ugly front end. Why pay for this when the Corolla estate does everything this does but better !

Make your wonderful mate a nice soup tonight. And how come Anna isn't on your smart phone screen? Hummmmm? Ah yes, this is a car review....This thing just seems soooooo bland. If you said, I want a Toyota I'd say ok get the Corolla wagon or the RAV4 base model. But if you weren't stuck on getting a Toyota, I'd go for the new Niro. It's design is much more interesting and it's coming in a PHEV version. Scoot around town in a funky looking Kia on EV only most of the time? That would be my choice or the VW Taos. What I see here in Toronto is tons of those Subaru Crosstreks. Actually that's the only interesting Subaru imo. Funky, cheap, durable.
The pricing is terrible. For the same cost you can get the higher regular suvs: 3008, sportage, tucson, cx5, even rav4, karoq, kodiaq, crv, etc. Many of them in hybrid as well. No idea who will buy this overpriced car. Maybe if they will lower the cost by 10-15% seeing as theyve lowered production costs by using less and cheaper materials ( soubdproofing etc)
Thank you for the open and straightforward comments. Everybody else are just doing advertisement with their reviews but yours are always realistic.

Same her in NL. Corolla is much more expensive. But it is a real hybrid where the Qashqai 1.3 is not. I own the QQ and it is great but fuel is 6,4 l/100km.
Do more English reviews Marek they're great. Moj Polski nie jest bardzo dobra.
hi Marek, what's your favourite car in this segment?
The XCeed is a very good compact crossover (if AWD is not a must).
Marek, thank you for your review!
My pleasure!
@@MarekDrivesENG by the way what car do you drive?
The Corolla Touring Sport is definitely quieter and has better handling. They both extremely reliable but Corolla Cross will fit better for people who live in suburban with uneven roads.
Lol,,u reminded me with front passenger seat of Subaru cross trek I own in Egypt…same same…nice video…keep on❤
It doesn't make much sense with Hungarian prices.
Indeed. For 50k you're somewhere in the BMW X1/MINI Countryman territory.
@@MarekDrivesENG . But they are noisy, low and uncomfortable too.
The front seats look exactly the same?? How can there be a difference?
Sit down in them, and find out.
How does this system compare with the new Honda HR-V Hybrid system?
Can you be more specific?
Celery? That looks like a cabbage. 😂 Props to Anna for being brave enough to walk in front of a moving car!!!
The safety tech in this car is so overzealous I could barely reverse into my driveway. So we tested it thoroughly before rolling the camera :)
Celeriac not celery.
Does Europe get the Yaris Cross which is one size smaller 🤔
Yes, we do.

The bloody hysterically large screen really sucks! Yet Toyota remains one of the best carmakers!
I am between this and the toyota yaris cross. What would you suggest? I was shocked to see that the trunk of the car has the same capacity as the yaris.
How much do you need AWD, and how strongly are you attached to Toyota? I'd check out the KIA Niro HEV.
Don't care about AWD. Honestly I am amazed with the tech in the Yaris. Thanks for the suggestion Marek. Dzięnki
I‘ve test drove the Yaris Cross and liked the powertrain. What I didn‘t like is the design
Celery?
Interesting. Marek describes the front seats as ‘unbearable bad’, while both Thomas and Brian from Autogefühl are praising these very same seats into the heavens.
Has any of them sat on the right seat?
The left is just bad.
@@MarekDrivesENG Yes, they have indeed. You, Sir are pretty much biased I am afraid.
7 Liter bottle?
If Toyotas had the build quality of German cars they would cost more than them, generally they are addressed to buyers who mainly care about reliability rather than build quality or performance and surely there is a very big market out here for such buyers. People who like to drive and not just move from one place to the other prefer German cars or to be fair European cars, all things considered and definitely with some exemptions either side.
Why don’t we get that MID in the North American model?
The lane driving assistant is better than tesla or NISSAN
Not sure why it never made it to the UK/ Eire, hopefully Toyota will reconsider and launch the corolla cross in UK / Eire next year.
coming soon to a dealer near you in ukk
toyota corolla cross has been in ireland for a good while
Good car and super fantastic reviews. 👏 this is encyclopedia of cars
Thank you! 👍
a budget Lexus,i like the idea :)
Ouf. NOPE!
Thanks for sharing!
Another great review. Think I will give the Toyota a miss.
Thanks. The Corolla Cross is probably not in the same league as that Mazda you ordered.
Actually I've watched some US journalists trying not to fall asleep reviewing this car :-)
Please, use the spacebar
Shame it is not coming to the UK like the Prius. Hopefully Toyota will have a rethink about UK.
It might come next year
It might come with the new generation of RAV4, as I have the impression that this one will be pushed up-market
Dated!
15:25 don’t tell me you did these tyre markings from donuts on the ground 😂🏎🏁
Only some are mine, and in a different car :)
At the end you go and but Škoda
Problem with these reviews in English is the seats & steering are not in English. Sounds as though the UK driver is going to get the bad seat?
I imagine they do have different seats for RHD and LHD markets, and one of them is going to be a torture tool.
7:02, Cactus!🌵
youre correct, the new drivetrain is a major breakthrough for economy quite amazing, but the car itself is boring, but hey, most toyotas are but they all sell like hotcakes mainly due to their reliability
Shame no spare wheel option.
"in short" we made a cost reduction
12:33 wow Toyota cuts back as much as Dacia.
who would have thought
That's not Celery... It's called Celeriac, a different vegetable
It's the upper part of celery. Same vegetable.
The world doesn't want hybrid vehicles and boring SUVs with Corolla splashed on every other model.
Check your sentence once more and see the contradiction in it. Unless you call yourself the world...
Toyota started this trend with SUV 1994,RAV4, now cross over SUV all are following and are copying..
I think you really don't understand what this car is about. Same with the Yaris cross review which was all over the place.
are they nuts in Toyota with price for this!? price are not so far away or like Mazda cx 60 2,5 with 328hp hybrid and more then 3,3 liter diesel with 200hp and Mazda cx 60 are bigger class
Depends on your market. Here in Greece it is priced cheaper than RAV4/Mazda CX60.

36-liter tank?
Toyota, please do something for your product design. Make it look nice and clean. That just we want. Then, the dashboard design very boring to drive. Please make it new innovations toyota. #toyota#toyotaeurope#toyotausa#toyotajapan#toyotaasian
The Petrol Rav4 is actually cheaper!
Has the designer who did the ugly grills at BMW moved to Toyota ? Very much looks like it . What an ugly front end. Why pay for this when the Corolla estate does everything this does but better !
the corolla sporta touring is such a pretty car, too bad for the ground clearance. This is the opposite
Yup, that was sexist. Apologizing beforehand doesn't help.
That's not a celery my friend... don't be trying to fool people. That's celery root. It's good in a potato soup with leeks and potatoes. Don't waste your celery root.
A celery is a celery, and I don't like it regardless of the form :)
@@MarekDrivesENG LOL. But is your celery cooked or did you sell it by the roadside? Or you could just throw it at a gypsy.
I gave it back to the veggie shop I bought it from, and got some raspberries in return :)
WTH is a Corolla cross? I thought a Rav4 is a Corolla Cross.
I test drove the Corolla Cross at auto show. And I hate it and acceleration was very slow
7.5 s to 100 is slow??
so tldr, if you want a nice car with this powertrain, you must buy a lexus. for 50k+ probably.
Yeah, pretty much.
Toyota new pricing is a joke. 46K for a car with zero sound proof?
The pricing is terrible. For the same cost you can get the higher regular suvs: 3008, sportage, tucson, cx5, even rav4, karoq, kodiaq, crv, etc. Many of them in hybrid as well. No idea who will buy this overpriced car. Maybe if they will lower the cost by 10-15% seeing as theyve lowered production costs by using less and cheaper materials ( soubdproofing etc)
thats not a celery
Celery root to be precise. And it's even worse, than the top part ;)
@Marek Drives in English if I'm being critical about celery your review must he good 👍
🤣
Sounds like a lemon.
