    These Corolla Cross's have been selling very well in South Africa, quite a lot of demand. When the Toyota factory was flooded in Durban the prices shot up drastically but thankfully they have resumed production again.

    This is just arriving in NZ now, I took one for a test drive and really liked it (and ordered one). My first hybrid, was surprised how quiet it was, and smooth around town, no concerns on the highway either. Driven normally, I hardly ever noticed the petrol engine kicking in. It's not a luxury car, but a good practical option and comes with way more tech/safety than my CRV and the infotainment is much more modern (and a nice size screen).

      My wife and I test drove one here in Australia. It impressed me as well. It was only in the showroom for a few hours and there were people waiting to test drive it. It already feels like it will be quite popular.

    • @nightowlnzab
      @nightowlnzab 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I think it will be a common sight on our roads, it ticks all the boxes here - being an SUV, hybrid saves fuel, and eligible for a govt rebate. The dealer called me as soon as they got their demo in, but folks had to book a timeslot to view/drive it.

    As usually very good review. I was the owner of 2 normal Corolla in the past and I appreciate they never failed - really reliable cars. But the assembling/interior quality (with comparison to my actual Golf Alltrack)was not so good. And the worst was lacquer which quality was poor - scratching very fast.

    I do enjoy your review videos, no nonsense and real world experience and very entertaining and informative. As a fan of the Honda offerings in this segment I was interested to hear you compare this Toyota to them, so few others do, they seem to be ignored (cue sarcastic comments!) This was one of the best reviews of this car which helped with my decision, so i booked and Test drove this vehicle today: Limited FWD version. What can I say, it doesn't disappoint and I'm amazed with how refined is it. Heaps of space, It's comfortable, packed full of tech and safety features. It can park itself man, lol. But that hybrid system is a huge improvement. I was able to start from 0 to 50km/h in pure EV mode for a little while until the engine kicked on, it wasn't sluggish and it saved loads of fuel.
    Name is down for one until Toyota NZ are able to order, prolly won't recieve till 2024, gives me time to get myself squared away. I'm going for the top spec Limited AWD Hybird version.
    Cheers Autogefühl

      Heya I’m in NZ also and also if planning a n a new car. The think these hybrids are the way to go.
      I drove civic sport yesterday using a 1.5ltr turbo and cvt. Nice car but the cvt does detract a little. About 13km/ltr.
      I would like to test drive civic hybrid, corolla hybrid and this featured vehicle.
      It do wonder how much acceleration you will loose opting for all wheel drive?

    • @srapshooter
      @srapshooter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HighMaintenancePS The one i test drove was a FWD, they didn't have a AWD demo, but i believe with the rear motor helping out it'll give u a bit more accerlation off the mark. The fuel consumption didn't take much of a hit either, only .1.

    I really enjoy the “Thomas AutoGefühl” show!
    Great sense of design detail and quality.
    In this particular show on the Toyota Corolla Cross I especially enjoy Brians (#cameraman) review in the end, sensing a real passion for this car. I don’t have three kids and a dog.. only two, and a wife…, but still find it completely suitable as my next family car😅
    (Upgrading from a Hyundai i20)

    But... isn't Mazda CX-30 a better drive and handling, better suspension (more comfort), also quieter, ~ same space (aside the tiny windows), almost the same fuel consumption but way more premium feeling for you, but most importantly, for your family in the back seat? I'm trying to decide... (I also loved your review of Mazda 6 touring!)

    The wife has a Rav4 entry model. I drive mk7 1.6tdi vw golf. I got this corolla cross out as garage car while mine was in being serviced. If you need lumbar support, you need sport spec as entry models in Ireland don't have lumbar support. I had sport spec on loan and really, really liked it. I would even say it drives better than Rav4, but not much in it. Rav4 has some small swaying movement in it, like being on a boat at times. Corolla Cross is a lot more settled. I love the seats in vw golf so if you're used to that comfort, you definitely need to spec lumbar support in toyota. Corolla suspension was tested, tweaked a lot on Irish roads.. fun fact.

Compared to Brazil, this model has evolved positively in every way, although here it has these attributes of good handling and comfort.

    I am 187 tall and had the chance to look at one today. I was hugely disappointed. At first I couldn’t work out why the rear view mirror was so low on the windscreen. I had to lower the seat using the pump lever, to see under it. I then realised it’s because the rear window is low to the ground due to the pinched back design. I had planned to share the vehicle with my 154 wife. Every time you change driver would require to pump that stupid lever driving me crazy. Then I sat in the back seat. Just moving my head slightly from side to side resulted in hitting my head on the roof. We have been driving an 06 Subaru Forester which we love. It is the same footprint but feels way less claustrophobic and has much better field of view. The cross feels like a coffin. 😢

    Hey Thomas, Im a Toyota owner for 10 years, I got a 2022 Corolla Sedan as spare car and love it, when I was ready to buy i drove the Corolla Cross 2024, it is just the best Toyota I drove (as you said it) and I had to buy. The point I want to make is, the 2024 1.8 Hybrid is so much better than the 2022, but you tested 2.0 not sure if this one also got nippier.

    Thomas, that’s literally one of the last tolls in Cataluna and the most expensive in Spain. They’ve been removing tolls all over the country, expecting some additional tax any moment now. Also fun fact, Spain has the most km of highway in Europe and 3rd in the world after China and USA.

    I was shocked when i saw how extremely low hanging the exhaust pipe is mounted. Is there any reason for it? I hope that it will be improved soon. Does anybody know responsible engineer at Toyota Motor Europe to contact to raise this complaint/ proposal for improvement?

    • @AlexC981
      @AlexC981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, I saw that too when the pre-production model was shown. Also there's very little underside shielding compared to other Toyota models especially for this type of vehicle. The high voltage wires are quite exposed underneath the car.
      I really like Toyota's philosophy on building cars but sometimes it's plain silly how they cut corners that take you by surprise for one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world. Or maybe they do it on purpose and get better with the next update while asking for a bigger price.

      @@staceys1870 Glad you enjoy the Cross, seems like a good car overall. There are a couple of things that bothered me as I mentioned. To answer your question, în the hybrid model underneath the car there are a couple of thick high voltage wires (in orange insulation) that go from the front to the batteries in the back. They drive the electric motors in the hybrid system.

    With the crisis we are experiencing, it would make sense if they also released it with smaller engines in Europe. They took a Corolla with higher height, put in a 2 liter and it costs more than a RAV4. For me, it would make sense if they also released it with the corolla engines. The best version in the crisis period we are going through would be the 1.2T and 1.2T 4x4 like CH-R. Also Yaris Cross will be better with 1.2turbo with also 4x4 version rather the 1.5t for many people that need lighter engine without hybrid heavy complex systems.

    • @rsrrsr9655
      @rsrrsr9655 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They probably think we're stupid in the EU. In US, 2023 Rav4 cost from 27500$ and 2023 corolla Cross start from $23,000!!! When in EU corolla cross is more expensive than rav. As in the US Cross should be way cheaper than Rav4. In Eu know to take only taxis. The car prices are on the sky. Only in EU find excuses energy crisis and raise everything technically. Like you say one Corolla with higher height cost more than RAV4 when in US 4.500 cheaper. Amazing.

    Thank you for another excellent review. We have a Corolla ZR1 Hybrid and a Golf mk7.5, the latter we plan to upgrade to hybrid/EV (eg Cupra Born - but two kids and a dog). However, this may have changed our minds as we can't warm to the appearance of the RAV 4 despite it's success. Hoping this is coming to Australia? We have one request for your comprehensive reviews - following a tyre blow out on a big pot hole in the Blue Mountains that couldn't be repaired by the 'toy' puncture kit in the Corolla we always want to know: FULL SIZE SPARE/RUN FLAT/KIT ONLY - if you would be so kind? I think it was mentioned that there was nothing under the cover in the back of the Cross? With the distances we do in Australia I went out and bought a full size wheel and matching tyre just so that I never spend hours waiting for a tow truck that cost a fortune back to Sydney! Best regards from our family to you and the team. MM.

    The shifter is showing PRNDB but no + or -. Does it mean you can't override gear changes? RAV4 has +/- modes to manually up/down shift. Also, no flappy pedals. They intentionally crippled the car so that eat does not eat RAV4 sales I guess.
