Very cool scheme. The limited palette is so simple and yet can be so evocative. It reminded me that when Warhammer Quest Cursed City came out I saw a few people do up their minis in the same style as the box art, which was just red, white and black.
The pink and yellow here really contrast so well and the minis make a set of adventurers that both stand out and situate themselves in the weird world of Mork Borg.

This looks like a potentially superior way to draw checkers on Harlequins and other such nightmarish minis.

i'm a huge fan of the mörk borgs artstyle and i've been trying to figure out a paint scheme for my party that both matches my painting style and honours the distinct vibe of mb. this is some great inspiration!

Thanks for this inspiring video. I saw acrylic paint markers in the crafts store that are made by the same art company that makes acrylic paints. Your video demonstrates how one could incorporate the ease of marker painting into miniature painting that is becoming dominated by folks using airbrushes. Seems to me airbrushing is a much steeper learning curve than markers. Thanks!!
Ouhh airbrushing is definitely more complex than this! But that doesn’t mean it‘s rocket science. I think it’s best to learn the handling by first simply priming minis with it and then slowly try out more and more. I can say that my airbrush is one of the best hobby investments I made.

This is great to create a "boxed set" where you have specific minis for a specific game and it seems like it would be fairly easy to replicate the scheme for new heroes or monsters.

This. Is. Epic. I'm definitely trying this with a grimy wash thrown on it and then hitting it with another round of highlights. SO COOL!

What's cool about those markers, and I'm certain by now somebody has mentioned them in the comments, but they're often sold under the Bandai Label as "Gunpla Markers" with specific colors tailored to specific Mobile Suit Color Schemes. What's extra cool about them is that you can purchase an airbrush adapter head that lets you substitute a pot for a marker in front of the nozzle and it works WONDERS. By extension, if you ever need to get fiddly details out of the markers, you don't have to worry about matching paint when you can hold the pen vertically and dollop it onto your choice of palette and it'll pool onto it - this is even how the Gunpla Markers recommend they be used, funny enough!

This is an amazing idea. I have the same posca pens and never thought to paint some miniatures in the style of the book.
More and more your painting videos are inspiring me to use these simple, high contrast paint schemes on my minis. I think there may be a whole set one day on my table in a similar style. I’m really impressed how well the yellow turned out, it’s one of my favorite colors; which is sad for me as a mini painter!
I think these abstract schemes can freshen up your normal painting routine. Especial if you paint a lot.

Are these the ones from 'Flesh of Gods' ? I stumbled upon those while searching for fitting minis, but sadly I don't own a resin printer. Would love to get my hands on these.
@Lenric's Realm yes exactly. Unfortunately, my printer just exhaled its last breath. So i have to wait a little longer till a friend can do the job.

Hate to disappoint you but sadly no. But this stuff is running circles in my TH-cam watchlists. So much so that I'm seriously considering ordering some Dungeon Synth Tapes from 'Heimat der Katastrophe' for the game. I just need an old tape recorder to go full analogue!

Literally just bought a pack of 36 acrylic paint markers in flesh and earth tones for review on a hobby channel I'm starting. Most acrylic paint sets have very bright gaudy colours so finding these natural tones was awesome.

Very interesting video. I have experimented with using cheap nail polish (from dollar stores or that women are done using/tossing out) and had some good results. Resourceful!
This for me is the essential joy of crafting what you describe here! Trying out stuff and see where this leads. Sometimes you get really great results!

I wish more folks here in the US were on to MÖRK BORG...I too find the visuals hard to pass up.
I don't like the colors but I love how it turned out. I am adding these markers to my tool kit at some point.

So I joined my wife on an art-store trip with half a mind to copy this idea.
She directed me to Posca markers and I bought a set.. not realising those were the ones you had used in this video. Keen to give this a spin myself... especially with the Westfalia Mork Borg minis inbound.

Gunpla markers are a great tool for any miniature painters arsenal. They are fantastic for freehand work and make short work of eyes. Panel lines on any tank or robot. When you need to patch a small section of chipping. I also use Oil pastels for weathering.
Ouhh great comment! I guess these gunpla markers have an even finer tip? There is no chance I could have painted the eyes with the ones I used :D
I think it's a fun experiment and that you succeeded in your goal, I'm not so sure that the art style translates well out of 2D, but the way you blocked color and the use of a limited pallet at least look like a good exerciser.
Yeah I know this is not for everyone. But I hope the video also shows that the painting of miniatures can be more varied than it's sometimes suggested.

Next project: Painting minis with Faber-Castell's colour pencils. 😄 Seriously, though, that's some nightmare level colouring. Mörk Borg must be pretty metal.
mörk borg is pretty damn metal yeah, it's setting is inspired by doom metal and black metal. and the visuals of the book are very punk inspired. the creators are metalheads and punks themselves so it's not just some shitty cashgrab either.

The gundam guys been using these for ages, but I never saw an application on our side of the hobby that went beyond weathering or fine point freehands. Eye opening stuff. I been playing this game called mortal sin that has that kinda of look to it too. I wonder if it would work to cy_borg its my favorite setting but unlike mork borg finding models for it has been a challenge, there is a clear lack of leather jacket models on the market BUT perhaps with some bold zine like coloring it might work.

How about painting a painting of minatures on canvas?
My excellent lad, why not PRIME them yellow and do the black AFTER? Then it can be smooth!
Thought about doing it this way but getting that black marker in the recesses would be an even bigger nightmare than painting yellow over black :D But if I had used only miniature paints, this would probably the way I would have done it!

Yeah my motivation was mainly satisfying my own curiosity on how these perform. Sometimes there is some kind of ‚meta‘ attitude on ‚how things are done‘. Which is fine but it shouldn’t close one’s mind to trying to experiment with more unusual approaches.
