This was wonderful. A modular diablo-style dungeon fits like a glove with the procedural dungeon generation in the games, and as someone whose knowledge of DM'ing and dungeon crafting for D&D is very superficial, I really appreciate all of the small crafting hints and details you put on display here. It really gave me a new level of appreciation for this stuff! And as others have pointed out, the quality of the visuals, editing and framing of the video is something I'd expect from a channel with 100x the subscriber numbers. I hope this gets seen by many more, because it really deserves to.
My thought exactly: the procedural generation in Diablo is pretty similar to that what I do when I design a dungeon. Only that I use dice and of course my brain 😄 Thank you for watching!
I used a reddish-purple color for my floors, also inspired by The red bricks of Diablo 1. I'm so happy to see others with the same love for that atmosphere and even more so to see you providing this tutorial to give it a shot as well!

I really have been enjoying the newer build I have seen like this one that have been using different color schemes! It's always interesting to go back to those older video games and realize that the pallet they used was much more varied. I wasn't paying enough attention back then. Great video!

I love that you are embracing the colors and demonstrating how to do it without looking garish. There's definitely far too much grey, black, and brown in medieval fantasy the way it is without DMs adding to that.
Yeah, which is mostly a modern concept, as people at the time loved colors, very bright and garish. Basically only England was dirty, brown, and had no one washing themselves. Much like it is today.

Very nice work - I really appreciate the departure from a neutral, monotone grey! It really worked well in Diablo while still coming off as creepy enough for the game, and this is a great tribute to that. I can't help thinking that, for those who work in a more modular pre-built tile system, that this will work great when combined with the HeroQuest board game for some inspiration for themed areas like a torture chamber, temple, summoning circle, and so on: the HeroQuest board game - the great-grand-daddy of all tabletop dungeon terrain sets - worked on a similar premise, but switched up the floor tiles in muted colours and brick/tile styles, so you had some nice greens, blues, yellows, and so on as well, on marbled, flagstone, wood plank, and other textures - the game board kept the colours muted and subtle, and it was a nice effect. Now that I'm thinking of it, Diablo might have even done something similar for its pre-generated areas (I remember the Butcher's chamber standing out as a little different, for example!)
Wow, this is very-very pleasing to the eye! Looks very good, you can clearly see where the walls are and where the floor is, but they still harmonize with each other. Great job!

Loved it, I've been playing DnD since the 80's and still do all my terrain as DIY with cardboard and random things I find. I love seeing how people create new and improved things.

That's really cool! Once you get more wall or specialized pieces built the possibilities will be endless. I do hope you do make all sorts of small, specialized pieces of terrain with magnets that you can put in the middle of your dungeon, like say: campfires, barrels, crates, coffins, altars, fountains, prison shackle walls, broken gravestones, chains, but i was really thinking a sewer drain, or a closed well would fit so much without taking space, like round and small maybe could hint to a passage below. Man if you add magnets to it and give it a similar paint job you can fit anything into it! So amazing using metal as a base for magnetized terrain!!! ❤😊 Got yourself a follow man

That's absolutely astonishing. I found myself traveling back to 1997. Nice fit for the doors, I can't think I'm something more modular than this. Will try it as soon as possible, but I'll made it with cardboard. I found out that putting metal wires inside the cardboard it's a fine alternative for magnets. Thanks for the inspiration.
I think my only real problem with cardboard is that it can warp pretty easily. I know you can counteract that but it’s not something I like to work around. Though I do like your idea with the wires. Other than that cardboard is a great material for getting playable scenery on the table.
Very cool! For sci-fi/modern setting one can reverse color scheme so it looks like concrete floor and brick walls. You may want to make extra diagonal walls, which are bit longer (square root of 2, or about x1.41 longer) and have their pillar angled by 45 degrees and indent for corner of other pillar. This will help with making octagonal rooms still in line with grid of rectangular rooms (and even making rooms with one wall angled). If You need example of why this is great for modular terrain look up Battle Sanctum terrain for Warhammer 40k.

Very nice. I wish I saw this video before I started my dungeon tile project a few weeks ago, I would have rethought my whole approach. I really like the colour scheme. I will incorporate more reds and blues in my next set of tiles. I wouldn't have thought that PVA glue alone would be enough to hold the magnets in place so I assume that the cork and paint/glue layer over the metal sheet weakened the magnetic pull enough that the magnets don't dislodge from the walls.
The pva holds the magnets pretty well in place to be honest. Even other magnets won’t pull them out. But yeah the magnetic pull between tile and wall is not as strong as I would have liked but it’s still strong enough to keep the walls standing upright and in place.
I designed my tiles based around early 90's PC dungeon crawlers like Dungeon Hack!, Wizardry, Breath of Fire 2, and Phantasy Star. Never was a fan of the all-gray look and instead went with a "pixelated" Saturday morning cartoon design. I utilized a 2x2 repeatable pattern for a consistent look. I then paint with only a handful of colors. This idea started when I was only using highlighters to color my designs and loved how characters stand out easier on the table. Simple monsters were usually a couple of colors and the more difficult were all gold. Not only does it give a certain charm, but it also makes it my very own and easy to replicate.
I have no idea about this hobby. I just saw Diablo in the title and I have to say you really nailed the look. The amount of work that went into this and the creative process is mind blowing.
1000% agree, this is amazing craftsmanship. The price point is irrelevant. How many hours did this take? Honestly, I don't know and I'm not willing to try and estimate. Having the tools, knowledge, materials, and a camera is all you need for greatness.

I'm currently building a Blitz Bowl Pitch, and I was gonna try to make the walls, dougouts and everything modular, so it would be easy to disasemble and trasnport. I swear I've been ocuppying my last week trying to insert and align all sorts of magnets into the thin ply sheet I was planning on using under the EVA foam were I sculpted the pitch itself. THIS! Using a metal sheet instead, so no matter where I land my walls, the magnets in them stick! This is genius!!!
Good call out for Wylock he is one of the best. His stuff isn't he fanciest, but it is very easy to make and very modular. Nice use of the makeup brush, does great for large area drybrush.

I never would have guessed that the magnets would still work through the layers of cork bricks and paint. Really cool!
Little neodymium magnets can be surprisingly potent.

cork looks like a fun alternative to foam! i really like how these turned out, especially with those more vibrant colour choices! nice work!
I really like using cork. Personally I prefer the look and the workflow. But foam is still a great solution!
