There's quite a lot of people here complaining about how the camera is not completely focused on the dancer this is not background music and a dance performance this is an experience in its entirety and everything needs to be seen since we are not physically at the show obviously they need to switch the camera angles to show us everything going on and I personally love when they focus in on the violinist the most because he's so passionate it's almost like he's making love to the violin I'm in love with him
For a long time I didn't even know Beats Antique had such a major visual element to it. I came across the music only, and would often listen to a few tracks. It's only until I looked them up on TH-cam that I saw dancing was a major aspect too.
This is a great Band! I saw them live. Great Energy! Rocked Pearl Street in NoHo. The Belly Dancer is extremely talented and gorgeous! It is so Awesome that they fuse turkish instruments with more modern contemporary instruments! I am so glad they tour so I can see them again when they come my way! Rock On!!
Seeing these guy in grand rapids, was awesome. I had never heard anything by them at all. I was completely blown away by music. They can be any genre at times. All genres at once. Amazing.
This Dancer is just purely "Captivating"....a stunning Beauty, her movement is so hypnotic couldn't look a way for a second, the Beat is powerful... very fine Drums and that fiddle sawing away, a complete treat...I love it !
That was my first Bumbershoot, and I got to their performance. It was the very last show of a long day of drinking, smoking, and dancing, and I had no idea what I was getting into. And boy did we have a good time! The whole festival was fantastic that year - great lineup!
You know I was thinking Zoe is a very good dancer but the violinist is also very good also hot and he performs like he is making passionate love to the song. I love it! Thanks for sharing this. The music is GREAT.
I went to a show in Seattle in 2014. It was about a 200 person venue. I got up to the front and the girl was dancing with a really cool dress. It hit me in the face and she said, "Sorry!" I said , "Thanks for the touch!". But the moral of the story is, I think she's a lover with the violinist.
The band is versatile, and their execution is perfect. Definitely enjoyed the music. Very cool fusion of old and new. Zoe's dancing includes the basic elements of belly dance, fused with contemporary dance styles to create an interesting, beautiful, and unique dance. Sorry for the people who didn't enjoy the performance, since every single aspect of what they present is intended. If it isn't your thing visually, just minimize the window. Don't like the music? You can mute it. Or just...y'know...don't sit and watch videos you don't like.
I love Zoe, but some people in the comments need to realize that Zoe is not the complete focus of the video. The main focus is actually the band. Hence why the video title says Beats Antique and not Zoe Jakes, and why the camera keeps panning over to them. Besides, they're talented. So why not watch them at the same time?
It's simple really. Music doesn't need to be seen to be heard. The dancing performance, if you don't see it, you miss it completely. Imagine if the camera was showing only the dancer and the music kept being cut off every few seconds, wouldn't this be equally annoying? I am not saying that the solution is to show only the dance, but it's a visual art, you can't break it all the time, you ruin it for the viewer, basically.
I mostly agree with you. Although the dancer is clearly meant to be the focal point here and not many people care to view people playing instruments unless they are a musician themselves. Also, the editing is not particularly well done. I absolutely *despise* jump cuts in any form, and what we have here is dangerously close to that. It would be nice if they would linger on each performance for more than one second. That all being said, I am a (extremely amateur) musician, so I love watching the band as much as the lead singer/performer and have no complaints here apart from the editing. But I can appreciate that I am most likely in the minority. And finally (perhaps most importantl)...the dancer here is scantily clad and smoking hot. Of course everyone wants to see more of her! 😇
Great performance. I keep coming back for more. The music is amazing and Zoe very talented. Love her on the drums. Please stop calling her the dancing girl. I don't know her personally or seen a live performance but her talent is obvious as ia her beauty. Beats Antique hope I can see you play one day in Miami #stophating #isuperlikeit
I like too much this band, thank you for sharing! Kaleidoscope(US) & East of Eden play this kind of music in the end of 60's & early 70's...Good morning from the Philippines!
Amazing music and performance!! I especially LOVED the end, that was truly not expected!! Kudos to these guys for mixing and experimenting so much! The result is simply awesome
OMG, TOTALLY AMAZING! Sure, wonderfully so the dancing Dikini caught may attention, then the rest of the tribe added high octane fuel.....SMOKING! Groove all around, a standing ovation, want more for myself and the world! Two thumbs, two big toes and my wanger up! The only thing not up is my nose as I bow in gratitude to the groove! Wish for more.
Zoe was a drug addict. Dance gave her something to be obsessed about (she suffered from ADD) that wasn't destructive. It is my opinion that dancing literally saved her life. There is hope for everyone, you just have to be lucky enough to find what works for you. FYI - a large percentage of drug and alcohol abuse occurs because people are self-medicating to relieve symptoms of mental illness/disorders that they cannot control, and may not not even be aware of. Compassion and understanding go a lot farther than judging and hating. Love to all.
Love, love, love your hard work and talent!~ Keep up the amazing work. I love when you jam out on your instruments live. Would dream to hear a album where you just jam out like crazy. You are all so talented. Much love and respect~ Hotnectar
+Kryšpín Frýsa I know... I find that song and dance combination enchanting. I think it's based on Thai leb (spelling?) a traditional type of Thai dancing with the long brass fingernails. Very elegant!
no..it is called menora dance in thailand..originally from hinduism influence in southeast region asia..you can find either in thailand, north region of malaysia or indonesia especially in bali
so different and cool. Heard your music at territyro days in Colorado Springs today behind the Wildyfe Fire Performers. I had to find out who the music was by and so glad I asked.
I read some comments about zoe (dancer) and I think she's amazing for spreading this art form worldwide, I mean Tribal Fusion Bellydance and the american styles of bellydancing and all that labels that are art at the end... the dancer composes and mix music and much more in the band and the performances, that's why she's a member of the from the beggining. Some ppl says that it doesn't fit with the culture of the musicians, etc, anyway this is world-music, world-dance..... zoe is genius

This is a band not just a dancer. They work together as a whole. It's about the music and the dance.
Seeing these guy in grand rapids, was awesome. I had never heard anything by them at all. I was completely blown away by music. They can be any genre at times. All genres at once. Amazing.
I'm seeing them in Grand Rapids tomorrow, pretty excited myself.
Love it. Beats Antique always moves my soul so that I have to dance. And that woman's dancing is fantastic!
This Dancer is just purely "Captivating"....a stunning Beauty, her movement is so hypnotic couldn't look a way for a second, the Beat is powerful... very fine Drums and that fiddle sawing away, a complete treat...I love it !

I agree they are amazing. I have been obsessed with Beats Antique since day one. Zoey Jakes and Sharon Kihara are my favorite Tribal belly dancers.
Their music is quite standout and I love the sounds. The hybrid of different
Cultural sounds and genres are the type of stuff we need in life
never realized how awesome violin was untill now :)

sure wish I knew the drummer's cymbal set-up…to my ear they sound fantastic. Love the middle eastern/Turkish vibe...
Wonderfull !!! But we missing so many moments of her performance to see the musician !
The band is the music. Not the dancer.
Bonita Applebum In all fairness, she writes and produces a lot of it..
FLyAgaric421
but still, her dancing is not the music.
She is very much apart of the act and they are a huge visual band. watch them live and you will see. high sierra 2014
