If you want to be more stunned, The Doors never had a bass player either. They used the Moog Taurus pedal to emulate the bass. Geddy Lee would use it as well whenever he had to play keys. It's very noticeable in live performances of Tom Sawyer.

Move On Up was played to perfection. The way the song flows is incredible...starts out chill, builds some momentum, cools off again, then nails a climax with all three musicians at peak performance without stepping on each other. And look at their faces...pure joy as they play. More of this please...sobering reminder that wealth and quantity of fans does not accurately measure the quality of a band.

When I saw the thumbnail for this clip I just knew good things were in store; the guitarist pulls out a total BoG-era Hendrix-inspired lead (15:08) on that last track - efffin scorching tone! • @yargnad
      @yargnad 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

@@philippkittmann4752 The organ is a Hammond B3 with a Leslie speaker, the drums are made by Gretsch (killer vintage drumkit) and the guitar amp is an Ampeg, which are very loud and proud to say the least. He is basically using an overdrive pedal to boost the Stratocaster's signal so loudly that the amp starts to really scream. This is something that naturally happens with tube amps when you've dialed it in properly and then kick the overdrive on.
Its hard to get that sort of tone at normal volume levels, the amp really needs to be fairly loud for the tubes and speakers to respond like this.

I swear I have had this clip on repeat for the last week. I just cannot stop listening to it.
I want to single out each band member for their performances, but I don’t want to take away from any other performance. They’re all equally talented, and just jam so well together.
Jimmy’s wailing solos are out of this world.
Delvon’s keys are immaculate and mind bending
David is a machine. His timing is impeccable.
I’m thankful to have discovered this group. You guys have certainly enriched my life.

At about 10 mins into the video, the guitarist takes a solo on the song “Memphis.” It’s the most soulful, funky, heartfelt solo I’ve seen anyone play live. That man is a true inspiration in my book.

    Hush now child
    And don't you cry
    Your folks might understand you
    By and by
    Just move on up
    Towards your destination
Though you may find, from time to time
    Complication
    Bite your lip
    And take a trip
Though there may be wet road ahead
    And you cannot slip
    Just move on up
    For peace you will find
Into the steeple of beautiful people
    Where there's only one kind
    So hush now, child
    And don't you cry
    Your folks might understand you
    By and by
    Move on up
    And keep on wishin'
Remember your dream is your only scheme
    So keep on pushin'
    Take nothing less
    Than the supreme best
Do not obey rumors people say
'Cause you can pass the test
    Just move on up
    To a greater day
With just a little faith, if you put your mind to it
    You can surely do it

I thought he is playing the bass with the left hand like Ray Manzarek of The Doors. but yeah, the left foot looks like bass movement. So can someone please explain what´s going on here? alos note his right foot is also controlling the sound of the organ music.

    • @alangunn3850
      @alangunn3850 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

as I understand it, the b3 has a bass section on the keyboard that's redundant with the bass pedal keys. One can switch back and forth pretty fluidly (same volume/tone). The right foot is volume. add in the speed control for the leslie, all the different tone bar combos and it's easily one of the most expressive instruments ever created by man. And yeah, doing this is pretty standard for all true jazz/soul organists, but it still blows me away everytime I see it done as well as this.
Check out Jimmy Smith for more virtuoso organ playing.

@@bluceree7312 an earlier commenter who said he was an organist mentioned that the guy was doubling (playing the same line) with the left hand and feet - which he said is a classic jazz organ style. And sometimes just using the foot to accentuate a beat while playing the bass line mainly with the left hand. I'm sure Delvin Lamarr can do it both ways. Awesome!
