ท่ามกลางความขัดแย้งทางการเมืองในสังคมไทย คนรุ่นใหม่ใช้อารมณ์ขันเพื่อสื่อสารและประท้วงผู้มีอำนาจได้อย่างสร้างสรรค์ ดร. จันจิรา สมบัติพูนศิริ ปัจจุบันเป็น research fellow ที่ German Institute for Global and Area Studies และสถาบันเอเชีย จุฬาฯ ได้ศึกษาองค์ประกอบของการสร้างประชาธิปไตยยั่งยืน และพบว่าเสียงหัวเราะจากการเสียดสีเย้ยหยันเป็นกลไกสำคัญในการต่อสู้กับอำนาจอยุติธรรม ทั้งยังเปิดพื้นที่ให้แก่ความฝันอันแตกต่างของผู้คนอันเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของประชาธิปไตยได้
In light of Thailand’s protracted political conflict, the youth-led movements have effectively and creatively used humor for public communication and resistance against the ruling power. Dr. Janjira Sombatpoonsiri, currently research fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies and the Institute of Asian Studies at Chulalongkorn University, carried out a research on the use of humor in campaigns for democratic change. Her study shows that political satire can be a powerful vehicle in a struggle for justice. Meanwhile, carnivalesque humor helps creates a democratic space that allows pluralistic aspirations, a crucial element for a truly democratic society.
