I have been a magnesium fan for many years. This is the best (by a long way) summary of magnesium supplements that I have ever read or seen. I will send this to the many friends I have that I have tried to persuade to take a supplement given the poor micronutrient state of most foods we eat now. Great public service.

This explains why an electrolyte supplement I took was fine normally but caused muddy monsoons when I took it while fasting.
It was the type of magnesium used that unleashed the chocolate labs.
Now it’s clear to be careful what type of magnesium is used in an electrolyte mix.

    I don't understand one thing...
If all chelates disassociate from the magnesium in the stomach itself, then why is there a difference in absorption rates, given that it's just the magnesium ions in all cases?

Magnesium and other minerals are combined (chelated) to organic compounds like amino acids.
Dr A says the magnesium and amino acid split apart in the stomach itself so my question is why do different types of magnesium behave differently when though the magnesium has split away and is just a standalone magnesium ion in the intestines.
I'm hoping Dr A answers my question soon.

My understanding is that Magnesium Bisglycinate is so small (Dalton's) that it crosses the stomach lining intact and doesn't separate until it's inside the cell which is not what you said. My understanding is that it is one of the only forms that is not dependent on stomach acid. If true your explanation should be updated/corrected.

    • @solutions4tenants141

I second that. Most Americans and first world city and suburban dwellers are low in thiamine (B-1) to get enough… you cannot slam your body all at once… you need to Titrate up slowly. Eventually after a few months building up to 400 Mg per day spread through out the day. Amazing benefits along with differing types of magnesium’s throughout the day as well. I find a combo of B-1 and Benfotiamine is the trick for me. Benfotiamine is fat soluble for of B-1.
      It’s the B-1 Bomb.!

Magnesium citrate was the only form of Mg that noticeably raised my hair Mg... indicating that it had been incorporated into the body as an organic molecule.
Presumably other forms remain as inorganic Mg... which would be much less useful to the body.

I'm a bit puzzled. While I was on hydroxocobalamin injections every other day, between 2-5 mg of folinic acid every day and normal DRI iron my histamine issues/MCAS symotoms went away almost completely except what I presume is irreversal damage that have come from the dysautonomia that have caused my erectile dysfunction and visual disturbances. Anyway... I couldn'y tolerate any B-complex. I tried methylated ones as well as "normal" ones. My blood glucose spiked until I stopped taking them. So I was on these 3 suppliments alone. And all of a sudden more than half my beard grew out as comoletely white. Big patches of whitw beard. So I stopped and ordered a test for zink levels as well as magnesium. And withour taking any magnesium for a couple of months my levels was outside normal range. Since I had ordered ir myself and not through my GP she just said it wasn't that bad and not very far out of range. So she didn't investigate this further.
I wonder what the reason could be. I'm still prety sick and my MCAS have returned after I stopped the treatment. But I had a period still without symptoms even after I stopped treatment that lasted like 3-4 months before the symptoms came creeping back.

Is Vitamin D w/K2 effective, in an oil form, dropped into water that has magnesium glycinate dissolved in it? I know D is fat soluble so I was wondering if it was dropped in water w/mag, is it now ineffective? Thanks! ✨️

    • @DrA-Online

I would imagine that the D & K2 is still in the oil droplets when put into water as it won't fully dissolve. I also don't believe fat soluble vitamins are made ineffective if put into water. But that's a good question I'm sorry I can't be more certain

@@MegaWandak I think my GP meant that a blood test won’t show *deficiency*: it would show a measure of magnesium in the blood (serum magnesium?), but that won’t show if I’m getting enough magnesium for my body’s proper function (from my diet). If one’s body doesn’t intake enough magnesium because of diet or malabsorption, the blood takes magnesium out of the bones.
