@@thefairybug40: It might be even better if the child is asked if they have a nickname they would prefer to be called. When I started 1st grade, I was specifically if I preferred being addressed by my legal first name or my family's nickname instead. As my nickname was often used as a girl's name, we discussed it and decided, together, that my given name would be the one used. Later, I was sorry that we hadn't used my middle name instead, because there were some problems with my first name, but such is life, I guess.

    Here's a fun one.
My dream job has to do with organic chemistry, so of course when I got to chemistry in science in high school, I was (am) miles ahead of all the other students. Because of this, I was pretty much a god to my chem class. Make me angry and your life was over (but no one ever asked me if that was true, which it's not). Anyways, like nine weeks in the first quarter is over and this is mentioned in the conference. My mother is apparently not okay with me helping a teacher with 35 kids that know nothing about a subject. I kept trying to calm her down, I really enjoy helping other people. The next week when we got back to class I apologized for my mother's behavior at conferences and slipped my chem teacher a box of contraband thin mints I've been saving.

Yeah, no, he's the 0.0001%. Parents who beat their children do it because they get off on it. Most don't give enough of shit to do better, and they never will, because they're so messed up and feel so powerless in their own lives they take their frustrations on someone who can't escape.

I was laughing so hard at the first one, I have a pretty common name so I was also addressed by the first letter of my last name. There was another girl with the same name as me in my class up until Highschool when I actually didn't have another girl with my name in my class. Then I joined the musical and there were five gmother girls with the same first name as me, and one of them also had a last name starting with the same letter as mine.

Had a kid who was good student, polite, clever and wanted to be a airline captain one day. His mother lost it on him and said no, she wanted a lawyer in the family and he's going to be one and that is final. 11 years later read an article in the newspaper about that same student who was on trial for beating his mother to death because he couldn't handle her trying to control him anymore. To the teacher in the 3rd world country with the brilliant but autistic student whose father beat on him when he acted up.....
Praise to you!! Teachers are seemingly SO UNDERRATED for what they do for students, and their families alike. You have totally improved this child's life by actually WORKING with his father, and EXPLAINING to him that his child was not acting up purposely. I LOVE that you worked with them, instead of calling authorities right away since it doesn't turn out well a lot when using that route. It just took EDUCATION, understanding, and compassion, which you OBVIOUSLY have. This is a BEAUTIFUL story, it truly made me tear up, and think of how this child, this family, would've worked out if you hadn't been diligent in your firm beliefs that every child deserves all chances to succeed.... BRAVO. Cant say it enough, LOVE THIS STORY. It should be THE EXAMPLE of how to go about BEING A TEACHER, but you're obviously more than that, but honestly, adults and children alike should take lessons from this/you. How wonderful.....

She was doing the parent teacher conference and the kids thought that they needed to help a lost frog by bringing it inside the room and so the parent called their kid over and he sat down and the frog jumped out of his lap and on the table and he lunged for it while the parents and the teacher were in shock than the teacher said he was to put the frog outside immediately and the kid took the walk of shame and the kids watched him set it down outside next to tree.

The last one... Man. At least the father learned and saw the error of his ways. He corrected himself but at the same time, the damage has been done. I understand in certain countries understanding of physical and mental development are different from some of ours. So it is somewhat understandable why the father had the thought process he did, but it doesn't excuse his actions. I'm glad there was a happy ending to that story however, and the kid is doing much better now.

Not a teacher but back when we both still lived with our parents I had invited my girlfriend over, since it was raining she Enugu having to get a ride from her dad. We ended up having a great time and eventually her dad called to let her know he was on his way to pick her back up, he arrived and also brought my girlfriend’s little sister (who is a brat) and starts talking with my dad, while me and my girlfriend headed to my room to chat for a bit while we waited, after a few minutes her sister comes in (uninvited) and starts messing with my stuff and although at first I try to ignore her but eventually she starts messing with a small cat statue that belonged to my late mother, my girlfriend knowing that the statue meant a lot to me tells her sister to please stop messing with my stuff. This of course pisses her sister off and although she puts the statue down she starts to cuss at her sister (this kid is 10 old enough to understand what the words meant), this of course makes me angry so I grab a nerf gun I had nearby and shoot the ground near her. That’s it. The kid then starts bawling and runs over to her dad telling her I shot her in the eye and hit her, her dad then calls me over and I (knowing that he’s going to believe whatever she says) tell him that I DID NOT hit her and did not mean to hit her in the eye. The dad refuses to believe this and gets angry at my girlfriend for backing me up. Unfortunately this was pretty much the usual for my girlfriend.
